I have not yet been able to see Parasite as it did not play here with English subtitles. I subscribed to Disney+ for one month just to get access to Nomadland. It also has Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri which got very good reviews so I will give it a try. In addition, Isle of Dogs is there. I saw it on a plane a couple of years ago so now will see it on a bigger screen. Directed by Wes Anderson who certainly makes quirky films.
Isle of the dogs is a instant classic movie for me. I think it was underrated, simply because no one was urgently telling me to watch it.

I implore people to check it out.

The animation is absolutely fantastic, and the story is so, so well done.

I really enjoyed 3 billboards as well. Heavy premise, but really excellent performances, and more than enough humor to add levity.

I just watched Greenland for the first time last night. I'm not really into disaster movies (a lot of them are too cheesy!), but this one was actually very good. Not near as cheesy as some other disaster movies. There was actually one part at the very end of the movie that made me tear up a bit. I have a daughter the same age as the kid in the movie, so for any parents out there who have seen this movie, you probably know the part I'm talking about! (It's one of a few things in this movie that a parent hopes to never go through).

Came out in December after being delayed by COVID, and working in a hospital...I just couldn't bring myself to watch a disaster movie. I recently saw online that a sequel has been confirmed with Gerard Butler and Morena Baccarin returning, as well as the director (Ric Roman Waugh). The producer also did the John Wick movies. So I decided I'd finally give it a watch. Overall, I'd recommend it! I'm putting it in my "watch again" category, for sure!

I’ll have to look for that. :)
I’m soft on Arliss Howard. I also like Big Bad Love that he directed and co-wrote with his brother based on stories by Larry Brown. The soundtrack is one of my all-time favorites. It also stars Winger. Howard and Winger have been married for a long time.

Shooter (2007)- A thriller that is thrilling, again. A US Army sniper reported to be the best is enlisted to prevent the anticipated assassination attempt on the President but nothing is as it seems. That’s the top of the rollercoaster. After this, I’ll try the series.

There’s a lot of reasons I disliked Tomorrow War (Prime Video):
  • Action was stupid, unrealistic (Opinion) ;)
  • I like Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy), but his brand of humorous quips seems out of place in this story. Sure that is his brand, but he did not do that in Jurassic World. :)
Other SPOILERS:
  • The usual time travel paradox, if you solve the problem in modern times, why would they have a reason to come back from the future to warn you? This would have to be a loop or split time line, I guess. :)
  • Who needs training? Conscripts are sent forward in time to fight aliens with zero training, literally swept out of their ordinary lives into a fire fight... with monsters, to become their kibble, as if they could function at all.
  • Who needs knowledge of alien anatomy? You don’t need to know to know the weak spots on the monsters, just empty your clips to no avail. Oh, it’s the guy on his third tour that finally tells them that after a ton of ammo is wasted pinging off the creatures plating.
  • They throw ropes to corral female creature into a cage. Ropes on a powerful creature that can simply pull you in and bite your head off?
  • Plot point: If future daughter figures out the toxin that will kill the aliens, Chris Pratt is supposed to take it back, then says I’m coming back to save you to future daughter. Why? If he has the magic serum, then they could make it in the modern time (not future) and win the war early.
  • Plot point: Apparantly Chris Pratt‘s character is not that smart. He goes back to present day, he says, mass produce this and we can send it to the future. He is told the jump gate broke we can’t go back, it’s over. So what? He has the magic serum. They can produce it and use it when the aliens first appear. It’s his wife that tells him that. :)

I was looking forward to this movie, but it was so disappointing. The pacing seemed rushed, with little character and scene build up.

I’ll probably watch it when it’s on TV at some point. I’m done with the cinema.

Jurassic Park (1990) - Directed by Steven Spielberg
A classic of action cinema, with lots of memorable characters and scenes. This movie never betrays its entertaining value, and it always delivers on fun with some interesting philosophical background. Some of the CGI obviously shows its age, but many of the good ol' dinos are as cool as they were 30 years ago. I still remember when I was 10 and all excited I left the house to watch this movie everyone was talking about at the theater. I remember vividly the theater, who I was with, and the popcorn I had while I was feeling as if I were in Jurassic Park.

Independence Day (1996) - Directed by Roland Emmerich
An entertaining movie. It's always fun to see the various characters, and I love the Area 51 scenes... I mean... we're inside the Area 51!!! This movie doesn't try too hard to be serious, but it has its serious moments. The President's speech is as powerful as it was when I heard it the first time... so there's hope for our politics if aliens invade us! I watched this movie for the first time at the theatre, and I remember clearly who I was with.

Eyes Wide Shut (1999) - Directed by Stanley Kubrick
Kubrick's last movie is somewhat controversial and many people don't like it. Personally, I love it. It's an obsessive voyage in the mind of a man who has lost all that he was certain about. It's the adventure of the thoughts of a man that is forced by events to go through self-discovery and the discovery of everything that is around him. It's a movie about the fragility of couple life, and parenthood. I watched this movie the first time at the theatre when it came out.

The Divine Ponytail: Roberto Baggio (2021) - Netflix
This is a docudrama about what is arguably the best Italian soccer player in history, and my favorite player of all time. It's a Netflix Italy production, the original version is in Italian but it's available on Netflix USA in several languages, English included. The movie is not a masterpiece, but I enjoyed it, especially knowing Roberto Baggio's troubled story. I've seen him play many times, I loved going to the stadium and see his magic touch. No matter which team he was playing for, I rooted for him. I admit I was a bit moved by some of the depicted events. Good 'ol times. I recommend this movie to those interested in soccer and/or Italian culture. It's a simple movie without many pretenses.

Man, I haven’t had a chance to watch a movie in probably at least two months.

I see ‘Tomorrow War’ is available free to watch on Amazon prime, but I passed when I saw the reviews. I like Chris Pratt, I think he was excellent in Jurassic World and Guardians of the Galaxy [Where he gained a lot of traction], he is naturally very charismatic and and seems he can act impromptu on a whim, very similar to Ryan Reynolds ‘Deadpool’. But I don’t think as an actor, he’s good in everything, and quite frankly, I do think he is a bit overrated.

If anyone hasn’t watched ‘Passengers’ with Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence, that would be a good one looking into, I do think he was good in a ‘deep space’ oriented type of film.

Ginger Snaps (2000)

Go in blind and enjoy the ride, one of the better Werewolf films. Watch for yourself and see...

Dog Soldiers (2002)

Another unconventional trip into Lycanthropy. Both of these films are intelligently executed, yet don't take themselves overly seriously with a focus of entertaining and thrilling the audience. Not deep or telling, just good romps and outlandish tales...

TLDR - The lost art of Fun :)

Q-6

Tomorrow War was an entertaining 2 hours. It's not going to win Oscars, but it's better than, say, most of the recent Transformers films. And Independence Day 2. Yes, the plot has giant holes in it, but that's pretty much de rigueur these days for a "blockbuster" style action movie.
