I liked Shang Chi up until the last act... Eternals... horrible. Black Widow, agreed.
Shang-Chi could have ended between Shang Chi and his father. Didn't need to go the CGI battle route IMO.

I hoped Black Widow was good. But it wasn't. Other than establishing Florence Pugh (she's great) and comedic relief of Red Guardian. It just was meh.

I actually re-watched Eternals the other day. I feel like Feige isn't going to re-visit any of those characters until Phase 4 or 5. With the MCU leading into the multi-verse and Kang, I don't think the cosmic stuff gets expanded till later. We'll see though.

Just finished Chip n Dale on Disney+. A lot of cool cameos and Easter eggs that I did not expect Disney to pull off at all.

  • Shang-Chi= ok
  • Eternals= barf ?
  • Black Widow= forgettable… what was it about? Now if you want to see a good movie in comparison, see Red Sparrow.
Thanks for the reminder - I’ve always meant to catch Red Sparrow but it falls of my radar. Jennifer Lawrence gets a lot of flak, but I think she’s a great actress and usually enjoy her movies.

Sadly Black Widow smacked of fulfilling little more than a contractual obligation rather than presenting good film. As they say far too little, far too late. TBH I think Scarlet Johansson has wasted her talent on such ventures although undoubtable wealthy for it...

Red Sparrow is by far the better film. Jennifer Lawrence nails the performance nor am I big fan, Red Sparrow is immediately engaging and doesn't insult the viewers intelligence as does Black Widow. A little predictable, yet you'll want to follow the action & story to the very end...

If you ever read the Red Sparrow books, the movie has one significant plot change, but it won’t ruin one or another as to the order they are consumed (book vs movie). I think the director wanted to surprise the readers of the first book. :)

Had the opportunity to watch Morbius. Not long enough, it feels like big parts of the movie were cut, it jumps around too much from one thing to the next. Needs more character development and a better flow. I think they’re headed in the right direction with it, given the scenes (two) during the credits. I was a little confused though as to where this is placed in the Marvel timeline. I feel like the ending is taking place right with or shortly after (?) No Way Home. But that part left me a little confused.

Doesn't take place in the MCU Timeline. This is Sony trying to finesse people by riding the success of No Way Home.

Sony needs to let Disney own the rights at this point or give them full creative control of all things related to Spider-Man. Having solo movies of characters that are related to Spider-Man (in the comics) is meh.

Venom is easy.

Morbius, Kraven, Silver Sable, Madam Web? Cmon.

I can say it wasn't as bad as I was expecting given the bad press and scathing reviews I was reading. I also felt like there were scenes cut from the movie as there were a couple of times the movie didn't flow.

I did like the fact they brought in the Vulture from Spider-Man... Was waiting for Venom to make an appearance or reference to him.

Old (2021)- 50% at RT, critics and audience. A group of people including their kids on holiday discover that life is shorter than they thought. A mysterious beach where aging is just crazy and you can’t run away. It’s watchable, group dynamics were good, the answer to this mystery was ok, but glad I did not buy tickets for it.

M. Night Shyamalan had some intriguing movies around the turn of the century, but it seems to difficult to keep that sharp edge.

This past weekend I watched several animated Batman movies, because I recently got an HBO Max subscription at a 50% discount, and the HBO Streaming service has almost all of the batman movies. I wonder if they have the glorious '60s Batman TV Show.

The names of the movies I've been watching are: Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part I & II, Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker, and currently watching Batman The Long Halloween Part I. All of them animated movies, classical animation, some of them similar to japanese anime style, but it is definitely not anime.

I recommend the first one of them, Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part I & II. Each one is a 1.5 hour movie, so 3h total. I really liked the premise, the characters, the animation... The plot shows us a Gotham City 10 years after Batman retires. The crime starts rising, and Batman has to put aside his relaxed life to save Gotham from crime once again, this time with some improvised and young helping hand.

Batman Beyond has a radically different style, and Batman is retired as well. This time is a young apprentice who wears the Bat-suit, but despite not being starred by Bruce Wayne, it is a pretty enjoyable animated movie.

I will resume Batman: The Long Halloween soon, and my plan is to explore some more Batman animated movies.

Before the animated movies, I started re-watching Batman (1989, good Burton movie), Batman Forever (1998

Tenet (2020)- I am a big SciFi fan. This is streaming on HBO, I had difficulty with this. More posted in the time travel thread.

Yeah I had problems with that movie too. I'm not easily confused but I couldn't make any sense out of the 'time travel' represented in that movie and had no urge to watch it again to try to figure it out. It was a big miss for me.

Have Tenet in my library. Maybe watch after finishing this article:

Thank you, I saw the movie without any explanation and, despite I thought I had understood the movie plot, I feel like a second or even a third watch could be useful to enjoy a bit more the movie. I will probably read the article before re-watching it (I have it on HBO Max as well).

Over the past week my family has watched the extended version of The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Amazing movies!

I want to re watch those but want to enjoy them in4K. I just need to find them on sale again lol.

To all of the above! I have the extended blu-ray editions and now I want the 4K versions. Damn you LOTR for being so good. DAMN YOU!
