To all of the above! I have the extended blu-ray editions and now I want the 4K versions. Damn you LOTR for being so good. DAMN YOU!

My question is -- what level of resolution was the original filmed in?
A few years ago we watched a special screening of 2001, on a big screen, with remastered film. But, according to my eyes, which are now used to at least 1080p, it was just a little bit fuzzy, the equivalent of 720p at best. I missed the crispness of modern films, even at 1080p resolution.

From what I have read

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy was shot on 35mm while The Hobbitwas shot on digital, and of the original trilogy, only The Two Towers and Return of the King had the benefit of digital color timing.

If you like horror & SciFi well worth the watch. Lifeforce has very much stood up to the passing years thx to the solid performance's and good practical effects. Lifeforce has it's own flavour and a very unique storyline, certainly one of a kind...

If you watch & like the film, this YT retrospective is also recommended :) www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKHB-_pDeM4

Not for the kiddies mind ;)

Lifeforce is one of those films that never ages. Critics tore it apart on release, equally some create and some cast scorn as ever time tells. Critics & reviewers of films, games & music are no better than the rest of us, however they look to turn coin from their endeavours...

Rogue One- A Star Wars Story (2016)- Best known as Episode 3.5, how can you be extremely happy and sad at the same time?

when they kill off the entire cast of new comers in arguably one of the most exciting and significant episodes of the franchise.
This movie filled a gap and brought life back to the franchise if but momentarily.

I loved that film. Well until, somehow, Palpatine returned. (No I'll never get over that).

Rogue One is right up there with the original Star Wars film for me.

I don't count the prequels or the last three, which is where they brought back Palpatine... Why o why did they ever freaking do that I do not know... Horrible. Those last three movies really did blow IMHO. So much so for me, I haven't watched them since.

Rogue One on the other hand, I have seen it now, probably as much as the original trilogy...

Imo, out of 11 Star War films in the timeline (1-9, RO, Solo) , 4 are worthy. For 7-9 it is an ultimate example of where a big name studio with basically an unlimited budget is 1) bankrupt of significant ideas to carry the story forward and 2) a blatant cash grab recycling plotlines that worked before. As far as anticipated movie series go, overall, I’ve never been so sad, disgusted, and disappointed.

The best of the recent Star Wars films by far.

NARC (2002)

A powerful and disturbing thriller, a tough watch everything is absolutely on point  NARC seriously gets under your skin, tremendously strong performances all round, it's palpable. Ray Liotta what a powerful performance, a loss to the art :( NARC isn't a comfortable watch, equally compelling & deeply engaging...

Fantastic Beasts The Secrets of Dumbledore … pretty “meh” to me. It’s boring and the story didn’t really go anywhere. On top of that, it felt way too long. I really enjoyed the first movie, the second was okayish but this is a new low. Two movies to go I think, then we can wrap this up.

I watched The Unholy for three reasons, it looks like a modern horror flick, it’s produced by Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert and the third is Jeffrey Dean Morgan. It didn’t work, the usual same old predictable story which can be figured out in under 5 minutes. There are a few good, japanese horror flick style scenes, but that’s it.

After these two rather boring movies came The Adam Project, which was a pleasant surprise. Don’t expect too much logic, the usual time travel issues apply here as well. But it‘s well paced, doesn’t feel boring, has the right amount of action, a great cast and is actually fun to watch.

The Reader (2008)

One that crops up in my rotation and likely always will do...
1638046502258.png

A deep and profound drama that explores both shame & denial on multiple levels across the principle characters lives. An absolutely mesmerizing watch beautifully shot, superb audio, most of all fabulously executed. The Reader is a masterclass in the what the film covers, yet one that's not for all...

Note; not children friendly.

Watched Top Gun Maverick... Freaking loved it. Lots of nice little nods back to the original and lots of new stuff to boot! The sound is amazing, so if you get the chance to see it on a system with a really good sound system like IMAX or Dolby Surround... Make sure you do! I want to see it in 4DX now!

It's all been said before, if you haven't, you must. This film encapsulates art, war, horror, personal angst and far much more than I can express here..."I love the smell of Napalm in the morning"

n.b. Multiple versions take your pick, as none are bad, just different, only Full Metal Jacket comes close...

I plan on watching "Beavis and Butt-Head Do The Universe" on Paramount+. It's being billed as the stupidest science fiction movie ever.

I can't wait. Heh heh.

This makes me worried for Indy 5.

Lifeforce (1985)
I used to listen to the soundtrack for that one. Henry Mancini, I believe. Honestly, never watched the film. Have to look it up.

Haven't seen it yet, but has anyone else gotten an Iron Eagle vibe from Top Gun: Maverick?
