I’m going to revisit the first Top Gun and then watch T.G.M. As I heard there’s quite a few nods to the first film as you mentioned.

What’s interesting, this film was actually filmed four years ago with principal photography I believe starting in late 2017, and it finally can showcase all the work that went into it. And with Tom cruise not just being an outstanding actor, but he has a lot of experience as a Director/producer, so I’m sure his DNA went deep into this film, given how historic the first one was.
It’s a sequel so there’s always the risk of not living up to the first film. In my opinion they did not disappoint. And yea it’s crazy that this sat on the shelf for so long but it was worth the wait.

I'm sure it is great. I didn't care for the first one so even though I like TC, I most likely won't go out of my way to see this one...

I just watched "Angels With Dirty Faces" for the umpteenth time. The ending always inspires discussion between me and my wife. Did Rocky Sullivan really turn yella?

The latest Bond movie - No Time To Die - is on Amazon Prime now. Planning to watch this weekend.

Last weekend we paid to watch Operation Mincemeat on Apple TV, I really enjoyed the film, a great true story of a crazy idea that worked and majorly helped turn the tide of the war in Europe. It’s said the film is very accurate in the details.

Xtro II: The Second Encounter (1991)

Pure B movie schlock :), equally adds up to be a fun no brain 90's watch. Xtro II very obviously jumps on Ridley Scott's 1979 slow burn Sci-Fi/horror masterpiece Alien with a fraction of the budget. Don't know I just like Xtro II for what it is. If into the genre Xtro II is worth a watch from time to time ;) Film doesn't take itself too seriously nor should the viewer, just a bit of fun with no agenda or politics.

First Xtro (1989) is kind of weird & disturbing, even the director admits he was off his head for the duration of shooting; Tiger's, Clowns & Alien's...Watchable, yet strange.

Xtro 3: Watch the Skies , I think was direct to DVD weakest of the trilogy. Continues the same theme with no reflection to the previous films. Slightly interesting to see the demise of unmemorable character's.

n.b. Xtro 1 & 3 from memory, and that's been a while...

I really want to see this. How was it?
I need another viewing LOL. Very James Bond-esque in regards to the action and the locations within the film. Jurassic Park is my fav movie as i grew up on it. Seeing this as the "epic conclusion" put me off a bit. I feel they tried to cram in a lot of dino's / legacy cast/ the JW cast into a almost 2.5 hr movie... If this is the "end" then go all out pull a Marvel and make it a 3 hour movie LOL. All in all it has dinosaurs and action so I did enjoy it but it seems they did leave it open for future films!

Playing the game (Doom 3) so why not watch the films...LOL

Doom (2005)

This isn't a great film by any means, equally I like it as a fun no brainer Sci-Fi watch. competently acted & shot with weak storyline. Is a fun watch and remains to be so...

Doom: Annihilation (2019)

I think was just a mechanism to retain the IP. Pity as you can feel the sheer hard work & effort put into the project by all concerned, with a very limited budget. I honestly think had the studio been serious this could have been a pretty decent film as it follows the lore pretty well. Want to do Doom? play the games they are a lot better LOL...

Michael Mann never disappoints. Have you seen his new series Tokyo Vice on HBO? If not, I highly recommend it if you liked Miami Vice.

Currently watching Martin Scorsese's The Card Counter starring Oscar Isaac.

Some of his movies are excellent and others blah.
Good:
  • Risky Business
  • Top Gun
  • Mission Impossible (original)
  • A Few Good Men
  • Rain Man
  • Oblivion
  • Top Gun: Maverick- to be determined.
The first Mission Impossible was pure, after that they went downhill for my tastes. After the original I liked, was shocked by the second one, a kungfu director, when 2 people fly at each other on motorcycles, with a closure that looks like 100mph, jump off their bikes, smack into each other fall to the ground and getup and start fighting. As with many action stars I can’t say I see a lot of range there with Cruise, but what he does is good enough for the type film he specializes in.
I forgot to mention:
  • The Firm
  • Minority Report
  • War of the Worlds
:)
