Kursk (2018)

A tragedy and sadly now an emblem of a broken regime...

In my region Kursk, others The Command, equally a very solid watch. Worse a real life event that could have been so very different had common sense been applied by the fools in charge...

That sounds like it; my recollection was of three episodes of roughly an hour each.
Originally it was certainly 6 episodes of I think not quite an hour... (45-50mins?) but there's been so many versions that I think we're all correct as all have our own Das Boot.

Kursk - that's the Colin Firth film isn't it? I enjoyed that one as well. As you can guess from my user name not many underwater films get past me. Just watched the Nat Geog documentary about the Thai boys cave rescue on Disney, it's a really good doc and is long enough to be considered a movie so I'll recommend that on here as well.

Actually, last night, having replied to @Queen6, I looked it up for myself, and discovered something about the fallibility of the human memory, especialy when something is viewed at a distance to time (a distance of time measuring a few decades); for, of course, you are perfectly correct; it was six episodes.

Mea culpa.

Just started Prey. I have a good feeling about this one. The movie already has more substance in the first minute than the entirety of The Predator (2018). Amber Midthunder also did a great job in The Ice Road with Liam Neeson.

Bodies Bodies Bodies (2022).
Typical horror flick with the exception that I never wanted so badly for all characters on the screen to die the most painful dead ever. First half is quite boring, then it gets a bit more entertaining. I saw the “plot twist” almost immediately after the events kick in. What I did appreciate is the subtle criticism of certain “social-media induced” behavior.

Watched Top Gun Maverick. Did anyone else feel like the climax was strangely similar to that of Star Wars Episode IV? A small group of fighter jets (X-Wings) need to fly through a narrow valley (equatorial trench) to avoid SAMs (turbolasers) in order to fire at a small (less than three meters) target, which is a ventilation shaft (exhaust port). And one of the main characters is trained by a man who was involved in his father's demise (Obi-Wan). Anyway, regardless of that standing out to me, it was a worthy successor to the original and very well shot. I think it did have less emotional weight because none of the good guys died in combat, but that would be my only major gripe.

Halo-4: Forward Unto Dawn (2012)

Went in pretty much blind with Forward Unto Dawn and was presently surprised. A decent game spinoff, again watched as a full feature. I didn't even know it was episodal until I'd watched it, yet it works well in the full feature format.

50% of the watch your dealing with a Sci-Fi drama/thriller after that all bets are off as the film, best to see for yourself  Great fan service done right, not overblown or tacky. I like the original game, not an avid Halo fan by any means. Might even give Halo: Nightfall look :)

Containment (2006)
1661408073717.jpeg

Recommended by a friend when released. Never got round to watching, being long lost & forgotten in a box for 15 years. Finally found in 2021 still with the plastic wrapper on the case :) Containment is very much a budget indie film that I'm certain that most are unlikely to come across.

Not going to say anything negative as you can see a lot of heart & soul went into the production on a budget of a well used car LOL. I'm just going to leave you with the director's (Chris Schwartz) own comments on IMDB from 2007;

"Actually, your perceptions are correct. About half of the cast/crew was composed of high-school students. We're a huge supporter of new talents, and though this reflects poorly on us at times, we believe that we'll find that undiscovered talent someday. Unfortunately, our budget was "high-school" level as well. And I don't like to film with a tripod, because I like the organic feel of a free cam. It more closely resembles life, which isn't mounted on 3 steel legs, and is barely ever stable (how's that for symbolism?). Yet, I understand that it looks unprofessional...hell it is unprofessional, but I like it. Oh, and we did use a consumer cam for the picture. We all agreed that the grainy, horrible quality fits this kind of production..guess we were wrong on that too. Good to know though.

In any case, I recommend watching this movie for the plot, story, and gore, not acting and technical aspects that unfortunately require more funding than we had. We were contracted to do a graphically situated B-movie with an interesting plot twist. I think we hit it. Follow the plot and gore..It throws in some twists that you never saw coming, I'm sure of that.

Bear with us through the technical limits if you can. The acting gets better, if you get a headache, then take a break or take a Tylenol and come back. If you make it the whole way through, we'll give you a cookie, just for being a good sport....seriously

But I feel the real treat is in the story alone. Though that doesn't make a great film, at least you can follow the plot. Look at some of the other indy films out there...I suggest watching the movie the whole way through first, before condemning it. We had less than 1/3rd of the funding that the Blair Witch Project rode on. Please watch the 2 and compare. Then come back, if you made it through the BWP without tearing your eyes out. So try not to compare us with the million dollar or even $100k+ films. We're just another small company making a jump from commercials to film. And Steven Spielberg was out of the office during production ;)

If this is the worst movie you've ever seen, I invite you to send me an e-mail, and I'll get back to you with a list of productions that fall way behind ours. If this is the worst movie you've ever seen, go rent 100 indy HORROR flicks with budgets under 100K and come back. Then when you whine about how bad it is, I'll listen. And hey, it's not the worst movie in the world...but it is funny how every "attempt" suddenly becomes the "worst movie ever" go look at the reviews on here. Just about every film is "the worst movie ever" in someone's opinion.

But thanks for the comments. We'll keep working on making better films. That's all I can offer until someone coughs up 1/2 a mil to fund us. Then I'll give you $50 to refund you if you still hate it and feel like it was a waste of your time."

TBH I don't feel that Chris Schwartz was too far off the mark. I think Containment resonates with me just for the sheer effort and the backstory of the disk :)...

Crazy comedy that was recommended to me by a friend of mine. Has kind of a Election or Mean Girls vibe to it, in a good way. The main character thought she was playing chess. Turns out she was playing checkers and the guy was playing chess.🤯 Probably the best Paramount+ original film I've seen so far.

In the end who do you think "won"?

I'll admit that the whole film I was thinking I sided with Borden but in the end I think I understood Lord Caldlow the best.

I sway towards Angier/Caldlow since it was Borden’s maverick antics that kickstart the rivalry. I enjoy looking back at the movie and chuckle at the little bits of pieces of foreshadowing the body-double concept, which I missed in my first watch.
