Imo, for anyone who wanted or expected some new story, some level of creativity from supposed Hollywood top story telling talent, JJ Abrams‘s hand on Star Wars was an unmitigated cheapening disaster, complete lack of creativity, inability to push the franchise forward, a blatant repeat of what came before, and wholesale money grab. After Episode 7, I still watched hoping, but waited for streaming, except for Rise which I blew off completely. I had had enough, been fooled enough, **** them.It had action and lots of CGI. That's often enough. Add in Tom Cruise and you have a blockbuster. People often aren't looking for deep stories or characters and just want the boom-booms.
I was reading the reviews of Star Wars-Rise of Skywalker and I was amazed at the predominately bad reviews. I think they tied up the story pretty well but most people seemed to find it weak.
I'm done with Star Wars. I grinded through the new movies, and watched some of the new TV series, but it's all bad.Imo, for anyone who wanted or expected some new story, some level of creativity from supposed Hollywood top story telling talent, JJ Abrams‘s hand on Star Wars was an unmitigated cheapening disaster, complete lack of creativity, inability to push the franchise forward, a blatant repeat of what came before, and wholesale money grab. Post SW Episode 3 there has been one light in the Star Wars darkness: Rogue Squadron. How apropos that it is directly tied to the first trilogy, with outstanding characters, but everyone dies there and along with it, I imagine the hope of any further Rogue Squadron stories, which Disney excommunicated the books as Cannon. 😤
I liked "Rise". It completed the arc on Rey's story and that's all I was really looking for. Personally, I think this whole "franchise" business isn't doing Sci-Fi/Fantasy fans any benefit. Stories have to be formatted so they never end, bringing on the next installment. Amazon is doing their "Rings" series and I don't think I'll bother. I didn't like the LOTR movies (I'm a fan of the books since the 70's) because they scrambled so many elements of Tolkien's books that it was like it was a different story. Ant Man (2015)- Scott Lang, busted cat burglar and all around good guy gets small. I like Paul Rudd. Top Tier Marvel story in the Infinity Stone Universe, but no Infinity Stones in this specific story arc.

For me a must watch. Initially a slow burn, however one well worth staying with. A film you really need to go into blind. Best I can say is, in general books are better than films, this is one of the few that's the opposite. Anything more will only serve to spoil other than to say it's in the horror/thriller category.
Honestly if not watched, don't look, don't dig. Watch and see for yourself, it's also a film that reveals more on successive viewings. As ever "you cant please all of the people, all of the time"...

I too liked this movie and was interested enough dig into this story and yes, 'Colonel" Parker was just as sleazy as portrayed in the movie and I've no doubt that Elvis would have lived beyond 42 had he gotten rid of him. I'm baffled why Hanks decided to dial that accent up so high though as the real Parker did not really speak like that. His accent was much subtler. Randy Quaid played him in a mini-series a long time ago and I think he likely sounded more like the real guy.Watched "Elvis" on Amazon.
Was good, thought the character was entertaining enough and the character played by Tom Hanks, if even a 5th of it is true, the guy was a freaking slime ball, to put it lightly.
Entertained and I really like Baz Luhrmann's style, so I didn't brush up against that at all. A little long, but it covers him from start to finish!

Thor was good in Infinity War too.Thor: Ragnarok (2017)- The last good Thor movie. They really ruined the character over the last 5 years.
Nice twist at the end in contrast to the book…The Mist (2007)

Even the author was impressed. After watching the Mist so many times you can see it coming, however on that first view an absolute bolt out of the blue...Nice twist at the end in contrast to the book…
And which ending do you like better? In fact I just picked up the blu-ray version of this that includes the black and white noir version of the film which I can't wait to see.
