One of favorites. Always love watching Lisa Kudrow. Great interactions between her and her son in the movie. Uplifting in a time when we need all we can get.

Pearl (2022) directed by Ti West.
What an incredible movie! Based in the same universe of X, Pearl is a disturbing yet funny story of pure madness. Mia Goth deserves an Oscar for her portrayal of Pearl. She carries the whole movie to the stratosphere.

Smile (2022) directed by Parker Finn.
Entertaining, but not great. The premise somewhat resembles It Follows, but it’s not as good as a movie. I must say that Smile is a much better movie than I expected and I recommend it if you want to watch a fun horror that is not overly scary.

Barbarian (2022) directed by Zach Cregger.
Good horror movie, with many twists and many unexpected scenes. I won’t spoil anything about it, try to watch it without any info on it.

Do you watch movies with more than one word in the title? ;)

Just started this gem on Netflix, starring Rose Byrne (Get Him to the Greek) as the voice of Jexi. Reminds me of the Spike Jonze film Her.

Just started this one, which I've been looking forward to for a long time. Very depressing; but an incredible performance by Ana de Armas, who was also great in Knock Knock with Keanu Reeves.

It is depressing and not completely accurate as to the life and times of Marilyn Monroe but still a good watch.

And de Armas is topless in about 50% of the film it seemed like.

Watched Blonde myself, it's good but equally I can see why many view the film as being in poor tase. A fictionised portrayal based on some reality the rest to sensationalise...

From what I understand, it’s based on a fictional novel of the life of Marilyn Monroe, which is kind of weird to me. But I guess it’s in a similar vein to Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Have you seen her in Knock Knock? That’s probably my favorite film of hers next to No Time to Die.

My favorite fun fact is that MM died before Charlie Chaplin Jr by about 6 years...

I believe that’s the case for most of her movies.
Not that I've seen, that said not a follower and not looking out for her. She's always been good in the roles I've seen her in. TBH don't care as long as the nudity serves a purpose. As for just for the sake of it. I don't care as will only tend lower the tone of the film irrespective of the direction & performance...

Watched it also... Some scenes are a little tough and overall, both me and the wife felt sorry for her. I imagine it all not to be 100% true, however we know some of those things did occur and it is truly sad. The lead actress was great and the fella that played Joe DiMaggio was good also.

The King (2019 Netflix)- good story about Henry V and one of the many battles with France. Loosely based on Shakespeare writings the story was criticized by scholars for inaccuracies. Apparently the primary issue is that:

Prnicess Catherine asks Henry, accusing him of not knowing why he attacked France, and the movie has created a scenario where an assassin from France is discovered, an intent to kill Henry as the reason Henry invaded France when in actuality there was regions of France that England claimed that France had taken away and the murder plot was a set up by Henry’s advisor to get Henry moving.

In all the world of 007 these 2 movies represent the best writing, the most focused story that crosses 2 movies, and the best choreographed chase scenes, especially the DC-3 sequence.

Not only that but Quantum is the most sinister, realistic portrayal of an evil organization I can remember in the world of Bond. However after this, Quantum is dropped as a concern and as far as I know still operating. Just don’t think about the hotel powered by propane tanks all over the place that make such a nice bond 🔥. ;)

The Night House (2022) dir. by David Bruckner.

I don’t really know what to say about this movie. It was an enjoyable thriller and light horror. The plot was simple and at points somewhat predictable, but I feel it really goes nowhere. I think that it’s also a subtle exploration of grief and depression. I recommend watching it if you’re in the mood for a thriller that goes in a different direction that most.

What I did not like at all is the main character. I am not talking about the actress, but the character itself. She’s insufferable, rude, always mistreating whoever tries to help or ask questions. Very minor spoiler (not really spoiling the plot, just a conversation):

The main character is an elementary school teacher. At one point a parent of one of her students meets with her to ask why her son was allowed to deliver some homework on the last day of school but then she (the main character) wasn’t at school causing the kid to fail a grade. Like, from nothing the main character explodes with sentences like “I’ll give him a ****ing B, you know my husband shot himself in the mouth so I don’t care. actually I’ll give him a ****ing A.” I didn’t like how the scene was setup to make the parent look unreasonable, especially considering that the main character’s attitude was like that for the whole movie. I think they simply played the anger because of grief a bit too heavily.
