Excellent film! from IMDB: In 1944, a German colonel loads a train with French art treasures to send to Germany. The Resistance must stop it without damaging the cargo.

Lots of intense train stuff that is most certainly not CGI.
Here we go, Dark Of The Sun (1968)

Right on the nose and absolutely no CGI. Solid performance's by professional's...

Yup this is happening... don't laugh. These movies keep finding new extremes which I think are more entertaining then the story. Is it still about cars??

I believe this goes even more ScFi, they really need to bring it all to a close, not the same without Walker.

Just watched an outstanding South Korean movie at Rakuten Vicki titled, Always. This is a 2011 drama/romance show starring So Ji Sub (male lead) and the beautiful actress, Han Hyo Joo. Highly recommended if you enjoy watching well-made South Korean movies with great actors like these two. Best of all, a movie with a happy ending.

From 1960, a fun and often surreal "Zazie dans le Métro"

Zazie roams post-war Paris and all its gritty charm, worth viewing a couple of times for the detail.

imdb:

With her mother away for the weekend, a brash and precocious ten-year-old country girl sets out to explore Paris during a Métro strike under her uncle's not-so-watchful eye. But can a little girl cause so much chaos in the city centre?

Subtitles or dubbing?

lol good point! I prefer subtitles to keep the actor's performance intact. OTOH dubbed films can be unintentionally funny😂
I saw a movie "First Spaceship on Venus" on MST3K. The movie was a Russian production but was licensed by a US company and dubbed into English. At one point the characters are passing the scene of a nuclear blast. When one of the characters asks the Japanese woman what she thinks, she says "of the damage". But you can clearly see her mouth saying "Hiroshima". Funny how that works. (Don't mention the war.)

Ah. Almost always better. They also keep my attention to the screen. ;)

I too prefer subtitles to keep the actors’ performances intact. However sometimes I find it a chore to have to read for 2 hours. ;)

Yea the issue is you have to watch the screen, but the wrong part. Would be cool if they could put the subtitles by the mouth of the person speaking, so your focus would be on the middle of the screen, and you wouldn't miss what it happening looking at the bottom.

Melancholia-poster-002.jpg

From 2011, Melancholia: Two sisters find their already strained relationship challenged as a mysterious new planet threatens to collide with Earth.

A difficult film to get through the first viewing, but once you're familiar it's quite a breeze - delicate, beautiful, and also quite brutal IMO.

Right. But the alternative is to hope that the dubbing is well done. I've seen movies where the English dubbing is less intelligible than the foreign language. ;)

The Whale (2022)

Unexpected. Touching. Serious.

If you ask me, this is a great movie. Brendan Fraser deserves an Oscar for this. I admit it, my eyes wet while watching this.
a lot of the screen guild were wondering why this movie was not included as a nominee.
Brandon should win, we hope!

All too real at the point in time. Powerful performances all round. Chernobyl reactor No4 blew in April 1986, only then did the worlds leaders finally understand & wake up to the harsh reality of nuclear war, it's sheer & utter futility.

This a sword nobody should rattle as the consequences are unimaginable...

From 1949: Pulp novelist Holly Martins travels to shadowy, postwar Vienna, only to find himself investigating the mysterious death of an old friend, Harry Lime.

One of the best films ever made IMO.

edit: the soundtrack is a delight - Anton Karas composed and performed the music - lotsa whimsical and poignant Zither.
