I only found out that Elijah Wood (of LOTR) was in Back to the Future 2 as a child actor yesterday.
I miss these sort of 80’s feel good movies. A bit of fun and escapism when I rewatch them now, but they just don’t make those sort of movies anymore.
Agreed.

The other two films(parts 2 & 3) are horrible. It makes me sad that they exist.

Huh. I didn't know that either. I'll probably watch part 2 later tonight and will watch for him.

Big Trouble... is absolutely fantastic!

Those others are great as well.
It is. I remember the first time I saw it... for the first 20 minutes or so I took too seriously, thinking "this is the worst movie, ever...", and then the penny dropped for me, and from that moment - and through countless re-watches - this has been one of my absolute favourite movies...

Butterfield 8 (1960)
1776194685923.png

A beautiful New York model and socialite enjoys a very active nightlife, but all things change when she falls for a married man and the consequences are tragic. Not one of her best roles being a rather overwrought melodrama.

Butterfield 8 tells a deeply sanitized story of a woman on the wrong side of the tracks who falls in love with a married man. Taylor herself openly criticized the film, which she only made in order to fulfil a contractual obligation with MGM.

Cleopatra (1963)
1776198494887.png

Queen Cleopatra VII of Egypt experiences both triumph and tragedy as she attempts to resist the imperial ambitions of Rome. A film that will likely not be superseded on many levels and for many reasons. The restored version is the one to watch, equally buckle up for over four hours of spectacle, let alone the featurettes & documentary...

Elizabeth Taylor hated, loathed, totally despised Rex Harrison, and I'm sure the feeling was mutual. This can be seen in the first part of the film, and for me, makes it totally unwatchable.

The Martian & Project Hail Mary, both great books and movies...
But I am really excited to see Artemis on the big screen, another great Andy Weir book; apparently the largest issue getting it to the big screen is making the whole 1/6 gravity thing realistic without a TON of (very expensive) CGI...

This is in the works...?

Karen Gillan's The Party is Just Beginning. It is a very raw film about the damage people sometimes do to each other (definitely NSFW; rated 15), but also it has some upbeat tender moments. In IMDB some prejudiced people objected to the Scottish accents in the film, but the film is set in Scotland (d'uh). I do think there are some references that only people familiar with Scotland would understand, but it is brilliant film even if you miss those references.

Match Point (2005)

At a turning point in his life, a former tennis pro falls for an actress who happens to be dating his friend and soon-to-be brother-in-law. Has a very distinct resonance with me... Watch if you can.
