The thing is, the iphone SE will not appeal to any hardcore fans, or any trend setters or the ones who always want the latest and greatest from Apple. This is for a niche market - the ones who still dream of the smaller screen (even though the entire market has moved on) or a cheaper alternative for kids, grandpa's etc. There is simply no buzz for this product

apple store is down
No its not.

Hate if you wish but were the only dumb ones paying 400+ for a device that does pretty much the same thing as a 200 one. Fitbits are EVERYWHERE I have yet to meet anyone but me that is happy about their AW

Do you host "The international Apple Watch Owner's Annual Dinner"?

:p

There's no product (yet), but if there is, later today, then I'm sorry to flatten your comment with plain common sense, but there will be significantly more than just a "Buzz", my friend, and it WILL sell well no matter what you "predict" - this is a legendary company - even their "niche" items sell by the multiples of ten million. Most companies wish for the sales figures of Apple's "failures" to carry them through a lifetime of manufacturing.

why lie? the apple store is down

It's not down in the UK.

I'm not sure "untapped" is the right word. Perhaps "abandoned"? I mean Apple owned this market until it closed shop in the middle of the night and left for 4.7 and 5.5ville. Now it's eating its chips and admitting it screwed up screwing over its 4" faithful.

Yes, You're point is takin. I'd use "Poor Market Analysis" in place of "abandoned" up to this point. Only time will tell. I hope it takes off. When we hear people talking about "Bigger is Better" it always intrigues me how many colleagues I have still using a 5s. Just waiting......... :apple:

I still have a 5s. My iPad Air gets little love, so thinking of a 6s+ or 7 when my 5s contract expires and have done with the iPad.
I liked the 5s form factor, the 6 and 6s were out when I got my 5s, the size didn't phase me.
After almost 18 months its starting to.

It will be interesting to see what the SE brings, and whether or not it encourages me to persevere with 4" and 9.7"

It is now, if you goto buy, it mentions some tripe around virtual door about to open..

Personally I've moved on and have grown accustom to the 4.7". But I'm not sure why anyone is grousing that another size option will be available. More sizes = more happy customers = continued high industry support for all of iOS. How is that a bad thing?

It's not an obsession it's a necessity. Where else are we going to put it if we aren't wearing a coat or jacket? That is my preferred holding area. Going to work we can put it in our briefcase or backpack but that is one event. But most men (at least in the U.S) do not tote a bag outside work -- for reference watch: the infamous "man purse" Friends episode. :)

How do you see Apple as having "screwed up"? The 5S is a current iPhone model pictured alongside the higher spec iPhones at Apple.com which they're still actively selling. Whatever does come later, IF it does, that is, would be an upgrade to a highly successful and still actively promoted/sold model.
[doublepost=1458560086][/doublepost]The fail is strong, today. Everyone's falling over themselves to be the one who is later seen to have had the correct "prediction", for whatever it matters.

Go and eat your lunch, before the internet eats your whole day.

I didn't need a screenshot, I believed you that it's down in your locale.

Skylake has been in PC-laptops for quite a few months.

Indeed, it is a shame that Intel hasn't released the Skylake chips that are needed for the 13" MBP, the MBAs and the Mac mini after shipping the first production Skylake chips last August.

What a roundabout way of saying the 5c was a rehoused version of the 5.

I think this is one keynote I can skip. The products it's likely to focus on are not for me.

If I have the funds I'll buy the new iPad for my mum, the speakers will be really good as she watches a lot of catch up telly on it. She has an iPad 3 so it will be quite the upgrade haha.
Exactly my mum, except she will have to use the iPad 3 for a little longer. :p

I think this is one keynote I can skip. The products it's likely to focus on are not for me. I'm waiting for the "iPhone 7+". I already have an iPad Pro. I don't care about Apple Watch bands (I used the sport band with my SS Apple Watch until recently, when I picked up a black Milanese Loop on Amazon for $25).

I'll read the articles that come out in the wake of the presentation in case there's anything I missed. No need to be distracted.
I guarantee you will watch - you won't be able to resist, no matter how nonchalantly you paint yourself :D

I like your tone. You're an old school member, I like how sharp & intelligent your wit comes across, and also your avatar. You're a rare breed, please breed, we're swamped with numbskulls!!!

Gosh, who said it would not sell? My point was that it is not a top tier product, simply an update to their bottom-tier iphone! That means most users (and circa 99% of macrumors readers) would not consider it a viable upgrade.
Therefore any buzz is muted.

Give it time and it will be down, I think its normal just 2-3 hours before the event starts.

Comedy gold!

For what 99% of MR readers think about 4-inch iPhones read this:

I think I see were Newjackboy is coming from, its an upgrade for anyone who has a 4' iPhone and it is to a degree a bottom end product upgrade and its for anyone who doesn't IP6 etc, but IMO I still don't see it selling that well. I mean that sentence could bite me later once its got a launch date. (hopefully not)

99% of MR membership? Gosh, I suppose that appears to be a large number if you're a lazy person incapable of analysing comments and performing basic maths, as most are, but then you realise the membership of one website VS the number of people using and buying from Apple, is comically miniscule in its percentage comparison.

I held an old iPhone 3gs the other day.... it felt amazing in the hand.

I am sick of big phones, I want a 3gs with updated specs.

OR frankly I would love to see an iFlipPhone.

Flip Phones need to make a comeback. They are an excellent form factor compared to big huge flat phones.

Apple had to introduce the larger 4"7 and 5"5 because of clear shifts in the market to larger screen phones, as media consumption increased exponentially. That ship has now sailed.

There will always be a smaller proportion who cling to the past. Remember in 2012 (many, including myself swore by physical keyboards). But each year, that group has gotten smaller and smaller. Even today, the remaining blackberry die-hards still exist, but they are small in number...

I'm not bashing the SE and happy that Apple is providing choice - my point is that if that is the highlight of today's key note... then not so exciting for the market and for apple fans...

I'm hoping there still a big surprise in store..
