I've just read that Microsoft will be introducing a new surface pro in 1Q 2017. Looks like software companies like google and Microsoft are pushing harder than Apple does these days. Especially now the surface line of Microsoft is getting momentum Apple definitely has to up the ante. Also when you consider decreasing iPad sales year after year now and Apple is telling everyone iPads are the future instead of the 'trucks', it's disappointing to see how sluggish they respond to market change.

Too late for me - I'd been waiting years for a new Mac Pro and 2016 was the year I threw in the towel. I bought a great Windows 10 desktop and a Surface Book laptop and I'm shocked at how good they both are - Windows 10 is a far cry from the crap that I remember from >10 years ago.

There is no reason to hang around to wait for a new Mac - great Windows options exist right now.

I got a new HP laptop from work recently. When you open the lid it doesn't turn on. You have to push the button to turn it on. Then you have to wait while the color blobs dance around to get windows back up. It takes about a minute. But it's a minute every single time. The other day it flipped screen orientation sideways randomly. Just the screen, not the mouse. When I reboot I have had to wait for updates to install several times.

I was also really intrigued by the Surface, and profoundly disappointed by the recent MacBook Pro update. But this windows experience has been a reminder of why I switched to Mac, and reassurance that I will be staying with Mac for at least for another generation. I just hope the next round MacBook Pro is less disabled.

I'm most excited for the new iMac. I think it's going to have a renewed place of importance as the only desktop Mac. This is a good thing, as dwindling desktop usage, increasing prominence of laptops, iPad's adoption at the lowest end of the consumer market, and the iMac's steadily increasing pro capability leave it primed to be *the* Mac for non laptop users. I'm looking forward to some nice cosmetic changes, as it's due. It would look great in black, along with a good range of specs from mid to very high. Get rid of Mac Mini and Pro. The market they address is not worth the distraction. A high end iMac is plenty good for development and almost all graphics work. When Apple is ready to enter the VR space, look for them to come out with a standalone device rather than a headset you hook up to a beefy Mac Pro.

This all leaves the macOS devices feeling very sensible indeed. MacBook is the entry level device. MacBook Pros and iMacs address everyone else.

MacOS could use a bit of a facelift to match the more severe angles, thinner strokes, and darker themes of their newest products.

iPhone should probably skip to number 10 (for the anniversary) but keep numbering because of it's frequent replacement cycle and the need to keep pressure on that.

iPads should lose the regular/air/pro designation. Just iPad and they should all work with the accessories. Can still have a range. If anything offer a lower end ruggedized version targeted at kids and education.

Watch should get a stronger focus on fitness (social/services/partnerships) and customization/novelty. More watch faces more frequently, more apps like Breathe, more interactions with other Apple devices.

Echo competitor should involve display. I'd base it around the idea of a crystal ball. Feels like magic. Lots of very remarkable use cases.

If an updated MacBook is >25% faster, and includes a second USB-C port on the other side, keyboard with the new switches like the MacBook Pro, and a larger trackpad, I'm in. A 16GB RAM option would also be nice but I'm not holding my breath on that one.

Right now I like the concept but it's too underpowered and restrictive to replace my old MacBook Air. But I'm hopeful because the original Air was a similarly crippled machine that eventually evolved into a wonderful design, one of the best-ever laptops.

I'm happy to hear your HP/Windows adventure disappoints. Don't get me wrong. I just want you and everybody else to have a good computer experience. I'm waiting for a new iMac to arrive (after long waiting) and I told myself 2017 will be the year of truth or change eco. Your bad Windows experience strengthen my hope ;)

Don't forget, we'll get MORE emoji, and LESS ports.
But everything will be thinner and lighter.

Same stupid and nonsensical post with every article that is even remotely related to an apple product. Are you people so unimaginative and so bored that you spend your lives posting the same responses every single time? I really feel for your empty lives.

It has really become impossible for someone who does have a life and wants to get some real information to gather anything of interest here anymore. It's all about little children who love to hate and denigrate and don't have the ability to act intelligently. Very sad.

The pointless and absurd posts now clearly outnumber the posts that actually try to be informative and intelligent.

With the launch of the iPhone 7 and MacBook Pro, 2016 has been a mixed year for Apple. The iPhone 7 was released without a headphone jack, an unpopular choice that's now been somewhat ameliorated by the launch of the AirPods, and the MacBook Pro has been plagued by battery issues, graphics problems, and complaints about the high price of the device.

Apple also saw its first decline in iPhone sales in 2016, but 2017 could potentially turn things around for the company. We're expecting the biggest iPhone revision we've seen since the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus launched in 2014, plus we're also expecting major iPad changes, refreshed desktop Macs, and software improvements.

iPhone 8 - September 2017

Rumors about the 2017 iPhone started ramping up before the iPhone 7 was even released, so there's a lot of information out there, and at this point, quite a bit of it conflicts, so it's difficult to get a clear picture of what Apple is planning for the iPhone's 10th anniversary.

If you read all of the rumors and suss out some common themes, there are a few concrete details that hint at what likely to see in the next-generation iPhone. We're assuming it's going to be called the "iPhone 8" due to design changes that are more radical than we'd expect for an "iPhone 7s," but it's entirely possible Apple will go with another name.

It looks like there's going to be at least three iPhone models, and one of those will have an OLED display. It's sounding like we're going to get one premium OLED iPhone somewhere in the neighborhood of 5 inches, with either a flexible curved display that wraps around the edges like the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge or an edge-to-edge display more in line with the current design of the iPhone 7.

And what about the Apple File System (APFS) ? For me that's huge for 2017

My #1 wish for 2017 is that Tim Cook retires or gets fired. He's been a disaster for Apple.
My wish is that he will be doing what he did before at Apple under Jobs. He's good at that. They should find a new charismatic person with love for high tech and someone with vision and feeling for it.

That maybe apple's secret mission in 2017. iOS and macOS using the same file system and being able to transport files to another.

I love the opening line about it being a 'mixed year for Apple' referring to to iPhone 7 and MacBook Pro. Made me smile.
So diplomatic by the writer.

But its 10 years and they have sold one Billion+ iPhones surely even if its in Steve's memory the 10th year addition will be renamed and be very very special.

Key note in June '17 at the Mothership with Tim playing the original launch in 2007 on the big screen with Steve holding the iphone in the air and Tim saying how proud he is - then saying 'oh and our latest model is the 7s'
just cant see that.

Ya but I also didn't see an iPhone 7 coming out basically the same as the iPhone 6 series without a headphone jack but we shall see. Hope you are right though.

I think this post is a load.

Apple has made it clear that they're moving away from the consumer market and more towards enterprise customers. Hence, expect more of the same while seeing more effort to bolster their services. The iPhone and iPad will serve as conduits towards these ends.

I even suspect Apple development will head into the cloud and away from needing Apple hardware.

If by "Cloud" you mean cloud-based GPU render farms, then you may be right, because the computing power is leaking out of the entire product range to be competitive for professional apps.

If they were moving toward enterprise, we wouldn't have threads on MacRumors full of contempt and despair over the neutered, non-modifiable Mini, nMBP, and underpowered 2013 Mac Pro. Enterprise also means dual ethernet -especially 10G tactical ethernet- and Xeons everywhere, a hella-lot more ports, and dedicated GPUs. All of this in a rack-mountable fat 'n' cool enclosure for non-throttled performance. And a more diverse BTO like we had in the past. We shall see.

You don't need charisma when your product is so @#$%^& awesome that it sells itself. That is why the iPod and the iPhone were so successful.

I think "disaster" is a bit strong but yeah, it's clear he doesn't have the vision outside of maximizing profit margins and it's also clear he's not passionate about anything that doesn't sell in the hundreds of millions of units, or macOS.

Personally I would strongly consider Craig Federighi to inject much-needed enthusiasm back into the company and its product line. He is a guy who is passionate both about Apple's high-volume (iOS) products, and also macOS and professional needs. He's also by far the best presenter Apple has.

Considering a random company that makes high precision zirconia ball bearings ceramics can spit out 1mio a month:
https://zjkingsoon.en.alibaba.com/p...e_Medical_Equipment_Ceramic_Ball_Bearing.html

And a single automated ceramic machine can spit out 1mio toilet tank lits a year, I don't think that will be a problem.
A ball bearing is a much simpler shape and toilets aren't handpolished either (the Apple Watch edition is). I have found this article to quite convincing:

Gee is it that time of year already? Every year for the last several the typical no fact hit shot come out and says the same exact thing. Apple always over orders every year and cuts back as they learn the pace. Get over the BS>

There are really too many trolls nowadays, to many threads are derailed, moderators do too little about it.
Perhaps the mods can create a section that only allows comments that are positive about Apple? You know, something like "I think Apple is correct in not updating the Mac Pro since 2013", or "Apple was right on, when it did NOT update the form factor of the 2014 Mac Mini, but glued in the components and dropped the CPU to dual core only".

I can guarantee you that I would NEVER visit a sub forum like that.

I've asked someone else the same question an hour or so before... what's your definition of a 'troll'? Because I'm wondering why people with other opinions are pointed out as being a 'troll'.

My definition of a troll is:

A fairly new member.
Low Post count.
Posting on the first page.
Leaves a single negative comment and then leaves.
Is here to stir things up.
Off topic posting.

No reason to update the Apple TV? Really? I can think of two really good ones: 4K and HDR. Every other streamer has it at this point and I'd be shocked if Apple doesn't do it too before the end of the year.
Yes thank you. What a stupid thing to say that there is no reason to update it. Also its got A8 internals. Very annoying as my family would like to replace their Apple TV 3, but we can't justify buying oudated technology.
