How well does the MX Master work? Ive heard that apple doesn’t allow thirdparty mice to use thier APIs that make the Magic mouse…Magic. Scrolling isn’t smooth, no bounce scroll, no swiping back with the animation, etc. How bad is it.
You have to download the Logitech software … I think it’s a lot more compatible than you think it is. Personally, I like the MM better, but the MX3 is not bad

To everyone complaining about the ergonomics - do you actually rest your palm on the Logitech? I have an MX3 and the only parts of my hand that touch the mouse are my fingers and thumb … exactly the same as with the Magic Mouse. If I rest my whole palm on the MX3, my fingers hang way off the edge - and my hands aren’t that big. Either people have way smaller hands than me or y’all just love to complain.
Yes, most do, else there wouldn't be so much variation built around arch and comfort, including but not limited to mice that are held at an angle or sideways (like a soda can) to improve ergonomics.

I have seen people with bigger hands prefer smaller travel mice though, but only because they hold their mouse completely differently than others. Regardless, ergonomics are a thing, even if you use a trackball mouse.

As for the Magic Mouse, I hate it. Have only used it a handful of times (heh) and would honestly prefer their trackpad over it. Never believed in Apple fans' fascination of the trackpad until I got my MBP.

I bet it will be thinner with a plateau and Dynamic Island. You’ll have to lift your hand though to read it.

I bought the MX Master 3 for Mac recently and loved it apart from two huge problems (for me, anyway) - I have to use an extra digit for horizontal scrolling, which I do a lot in Logic and Final Cut, and it doesn't scroll smoothly. So for instance when you're scrolling down a page in Safari the page comes to a juddering halt rather than a smooth slowing-down movement. It's incredibly grating after a while. I gather you can get round it by installing third-party software (I think it's called MOS) but I really couldn't face it. I use it with my PC instead...

I don't quite get this article as the Magic Mouse and MX Master are completely different mice. No way is Apple going to release a Magic Mouse that closely resembles the MX Master.
The MX Master keeps coming up on this forum when people ask for alternatives for the Magic Mouse. Not sure if it's the most popular alternative mouse - but it's probably on the shortlist.

It's the diametric opposite of the Magic Mouse in terms of ergonomics - which makes it a useful contrast. That's partly a matter of personal choice, though - people have different size/shape hands so *gasp!!!* they prefer different sizes and shapes of mice.

To everyone complaining about the ergonomics - do you actually rest your palm on the Logitech?
Yes. I basically hold/move it with my palm, and my fingers are relaxed unless I need to click/scroll.

I find the Magic Mouse very uncomfortable to use, and doing anything with the much-vaunted touch features feels like attempting a Vulcan salute. 5 minutes with one and I'm ready to throw it out of the window. That much is subjective - other people will feel the same about the size and weight of the MX Master.

The first problem with the Magic Mouse is the charging (don't know why people defend it - being able to continue working while the mouse charges is just better - there's no downside unless you go completely form-over-function and can't abide the sight of a USB port) - the second, really, is just that one size doesn't fit all and you really need a choice of mouse sizes and shapes.

(There's a MX Anywhere if you want something smaller and lower that you can still charge on the fly).

I am left-handed. I am unable to properly use the Logitech MX Master 4 mouse everyone is so excited about. If you are left-handed and are okay with a bland, generic, 3-button mouse, you can find something pretty easily. If you want more than that, you have a problem.

I am worried that making the new Apple Magic Mouse more "ergonomic" is going to involve it similarly excluding left-handers.

After my Logitech MX Anywhere mouse left click started getting iffy, I was going to buy a new Logitech mouse, but the price was so high, I went for the Apple Magic Mouse. It is quite inferior in ergonomics to the Logitech, but it's something that maybe Jony Ive would have penned, sleek and not user friendly.

Apple should just throw in the towel when it comes to mice. I don't think I have even opened the packaging for one of them in the last 15 years.

The Magic Mouse is probably the least ergonomically designed product ever. Just absolute trash in terms of user experience design.
No, it was the round mouse but they are all trash. When I buy a new Mac both the keyboard and mouse end up in the trash.

The Logitech MX Master has a vertical scroll wheel in the usual place, and a horizontal scroll wheel for your thumb.

There's also a "gesture" feature where you hold down a button with your thumb and move the mouse to make gestures. I never use that because I don't bother with the Logitech software. The scroll wheels don't need the software (not sure about the haptics on the new one).
The problem with third party keyboard and mice is that Apple changes OS integration requirements every release, forcing manufacturers to update their software. Eventually the manufacturers orphan the device. This rarely happens on Windows.

I have been using the same Logitech M310 with all 3 of my computers for quite some time now, OS updates have not done anything to prevent it from working, then again I am simple and only need left/right click and scrolling.

It will be hard to move the USB-C. I am one of the seemingly few people who love the MM due to the touch area on top of it, which no other device offers. I have the MX3 and use it... sparingly, I do not find it more ergonomic at all, always return to the flat soap bar of the MM :-D.
I'm with you. Love the current Magic Mouse. Don't understand all the hate.

Rocking the original Magic Mouse using Eneloop AA rechargeables (recharge up to 2100 times !!). Ergonomics for the way I hold it are great. Added BetterTouchTools which is awesome vs. Apple driver. Could not be happier, as is Mother Earth who is less fond of the limited life of current MM given LION batteries.

In fact it will be a MagSafe device, no ports,.... something more interesting, iPhone Air was tested without a USB-C port, and next year design change it will be portless, (Apple is awaiting approvals from EU and FCC, since EU already argued that removing the port entirely restricts consumer rights).

I've stopped using Mouses.
I found it better with a Trackpad - same movements on Stationary and Portable Mac's.

Mouses can also risk to be food for big cats, and Apple's mouse would taste awful 😉

I think that is what Apple has with the Magic Mouse. I would not use any other mouse for work, I love the gestures and over all feel for it. Not sure what the comparison is to the Logitech mouse, it is like they are 2 very different approaches to the same thing. What I want in a new magic mouse at bare minimum is wireless charging and the ability to use it while charging. Could see an Apple powered mouse pad. Slightly larger would not have me complaining though I have no issue with the current size with my moderately large hands.
I actually use Magic Mouse, though not fully happily.

Plus side —
Touch scrolling is amazing, I like it better than the "scroll wheel" by leaps and bounds.

...That's about it.

Negative side —
Ergonomics are "meh". Could use something a little bigger.
Have to be careful how you hold it. If you rest your palm on it then it can trigger the touch sensor and cause inadvertent scrolling.
It could be great to have distinct "right click" and even "middle click". Not having those means that it can't be used for gaming and I need to have another mouse around anyway.
And I just feel that it isn't "precise" enough. Sometimes when I am trying to do very fine adjustments in an image editor, moving just a few pixels up or a few to the right or something, I feel like it just won't do what I want.

Very much looking forward to what Apple does with its eventual replacement, whenever that happens. If it is really just about a year away, I'll wait for that before deciding if I want to get something like the MX Master.

I loved this mouse. Put a second button on it, and I would be fine.
