I've got a 6 Plus right now, but frankly I wouldn't know why I would want to upgrade. And I'm an iOS developer for crying out loud! This 6 Plus is fast, has optical image stabilisation and a big screen. What would the dual-lens do? Perhaps take better indoor pictures/videos? But would that be enough reason for you to buy a new phone?

So true. They create a very negative atmosphere. What I don't understand about these haters is: what are they doing here except ruining their own life with complaining?

I also have a 6+ and am extremely pleased. Two days on a charge, a nice big screen, an excellent camera, has software/features that integrate seamlessly with my laptop/desktop Macs, is fast, and all from a company that supports their OS with frequent updates.

It's funny, when pushed, all the whiners aren't able to express what else they'd want beyond the information that's been leaked over the last few months.

If I choose not to upgrade to the 7 it's not because I'm disappointed with Apple, it's because my two year old 6+ works so well and I've no complaints. The last thing I want is from a future phone is for it to be loaded up with high school-esque feature bling like other manufacturers do to get attention. For me phones are tools that complement my life's activities. Not devices to envy, cherish, covet and compare with others' around the lunch cafeteria table.

What would push me to upgrade this year is the improved display I've been predicting, using tech from the 9.7" iPad Pro, which DisplayMate gave top ranking for performance. As a photographer, that, and a significantly improved camera system producing RAW files (and with a RAW editor) would cause me to upgrade.

"What I don't understand about these haters is: what are they doing here except ruining their own life with complaining?"

I suspect people that constantly complain and trash other people, companies, and products in the end don't feel good about themselves and where they are in life. Likely, constant whining and trashing helps make those people feel good and worthy.

I also have a 6 Plus and have been very happy with it for the last two years.

I could keep on going with it with no problems, but when I look at what I'd be getting if I was to upgrade:
  • 3D Touch
  • Live Photos
  • 4K video recording
  • Faster Touch ID
  • Noticeable speed improvements.
Adding in camera improvements and whatever else is new in the iPhone 7, it suddenly becomes a pretty compelling upgrade...

As has been mentioned I think the best new thing could be the the dual camera. That's what I'll be watching out for anyway. For years I have wanted a proper zoom on my phone even if it's just 2x or 3x in the first iteration. 'The best camera, the one you have with you' will no longer have this deficiency. Better photos in low light will also be of benefit to me.

GPS in  Watch; yes please.

As for the Macs, you guys have no patience. :p
I'm guessing they will be announced October and released shortly after.

You're obsessed by the money, they could spend a trillion dollars, what is the result? What does the iPhone 7 feature (based on the leaks) or do better than any other phone to justify that expenditure? Maybe they're just good at wasting money lately? Iterative improvements are standard for any new device.

I know you are frustrated with the large and ever growing list of rumored significant improvements, but you need to settle down and think more clearly about the lack of logic in what you wrote. You ignore the entire history of the iPhone which has always been "iterative" after 2007. Under your bizarre reasoning, everything that Jobs and Cook spent on R&D could be characterized as "wasteful" and all of the features they have added to it each year could be dismissed as "standard for any new device," yet somehow by improving features each year, they grew it from very modest sales of a revolutionary product in 2007 to the most successful consumer product in history.

I'm not overly excited about this keynote per se, but do look forward to, hopefully, another event with MacBooks and iPads - preferably iPad Mini's. Though I'm not holding out a lot of hope for a new iPad Mini with basically no rumors around on them.

Good design is incrementally improved over time, so yes?
Incremental design changes ultimately result in diminishing returns and stagnation. Apple is getting there. They need to either figure out a way to make their technology compelling again or get out of the market before low cost copiers drink their milkshake.

But everyone knows what the 4.7 is going to look like though so what's the point in hoping for something that you know isn't going to happen...?

The 6 Plus/6S Plus had OIS while the regular versions didn't and that didn't harm sales for the 4.7 version.

In fact it's looking like the 4.7 will gain OIS so that's an improvement already.

It's an improvement but Apple's tactics for making stupid choices compared to the competition is costing them already and I fear this choice of only limiting the dual-lens camera for 5.5" model will further decline the sales of iPhone. Apple should realise that this iPhone 7 isn't generating much buzz even among loyal customers...

Well that was depressing.

What exactly has Apple been doing the past two years?

I think when some people read comments like this they tend to get defensive. Of course it's not a literal question. I think it's more of an emotion that Apple's releases just aren't as exciting as they used to be. Is that because Apple's team is just sitting on their asses? Come on, probably not. But I do think it's hard to deny that there's a little less magic in these events. And it would be stupid to believe that Apple isn't more aware of that problem than any of us. I also think the solution to that problem is complicated, for one because we don't know Apple's marketing strategy for certain and there are a lot of customers out there and we all want something different. For me, I don't really care about some big "non-iterative" change. I agree, that'd be more "magical" and exciting, but I just want my MacBook to work faster, with better, clearer screens, less glare, more battery life, and a lot of other things people would consider depressing, and I see what you mean, but I don't know.

Absolutely. The Apple haters will be fuming for weeks. Nothing upsets a hater more than seeing a company knock it out of the park.
Well I was referring to the fact it's highly unlikely Apple will announce new Macs at the event, but yeah, "Apple haters," whatever man.

Then perhaps you should have put that in your original post, which said absolutely nothing about Macs.

My point still stands. Haters will be flooding every tech site (including here). Now if only there was a way to monetize that......oh wait.

It's coming. The Apple engineers are "all" supposedly working in electric car so that will mean week plus longbattery technology and solar charging will hopefully one day come into iPhones/iPads
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/...will-charge-your-Apple-iPhone-for-a-week.html

I have several watches, all solar powered. Watch batteries cost a fortune, so why buy a watch with a battery? I'm really surprised that, with all the resources at their disposal, Apple haven't developed solar cell technology to at least extend the battery life of their phones and watches.

I'd be really happy to put up with an iPhone 1mm thicker, with no lens protrusion, if it allowed incorporation of solar cell technology.

Have to keep it on the table in meetings though, rather than in my pocket . . .

minor updates for me.... not upgrading anything as i've settled, but as always will watch with interest.

Complaining from the media about how they're not innovating is what I expect.

Then we can all expect that..... Seems u know the media better than they do.

I wonder when people will realise that the smartphone itself has peaked. Not iPhone but the whole smartphone market. That's just how things go. Do you expect to get a new TV with astonishing and innovative features every year? No. Do you expect to get a new car with astonishing and innovative features every year? No.
I hope you get my point.

You are correct. The problem is that the smartphone peaked a few years back, we have reached the point where they are no longer constrained by CPU/GPU for the majority of the users.

Now taking away basic features to conitinue profits, is not the answer for a product that has peaked in my opinion.

"Thinner" lawyers? If there is such a thing, I guess they would work at Apple.

With protuding wallets though;)

Dunno about that ..... The man running the thinnes crusade himself has forgot where his gym pass is.... Lots of fat cats at apple these days ;)

Retirement beckons for many execs...or they go to, too many long lunches

Its not just CPU/GPU... its features as well...

For the past couple of years, its all just been small bumps and additions. Still a big deal, but noting like then

Walt Mossberg hinting at possible surprises in store next week (not Macs). Siri speaker/ Amazon Echo competitor?

What if Apple went big?

Apple Search. Without all the data mining and tracking that Google does.

Apple Maps open to anyone, not just iOS/OS X users.

iMessage now on Android and your browser.

Yeah, I consider many of these features to be gimmicks these days . The only thing I am personally holding out for is water resistance, but it's not a deal breaker and will not result in me upgrading
