I'd say more than normal if the 3.5mm port is removed. If people get disappointed with no exciting news, wait until you take things away from them.
Well, something useful.

I guess I can repeatedly ask Siri why it's gone.

Of course, I won't be able to hear her inane response.

One of the critical legs that Jobs set up for Apple was computers. It is sad they have been ignored for years now. We haven't stopped using computers dumbasses.
In all fairness, the more attention Apple pays to things, the more screwed up they get.

Problem is there is so much more profit in an idevice. Cook only cares about money...hence why he loves watch bands...

Computers are so much less profit margin than an overpriced iPad Pro.

We are all (myself included) guilty of ragging on Apple for not continuously pushing the envelope, but the fact is that Apple is *NOT* the same company they were 10 years ago. Back then they were a much smaller company making forward-thinking devices and software for technically driven people. Now they make devices for the masses, which means commodity items that have appeal to most anyone. Those people care about cool apps like facebook/snapchat/etc. and bragging rights. There is no longer a financial incentive to drive innovation.

Aka Sony v 2.0 :p

Apple will have a one more thing moment.

They'll end the presentation with a video filled with closeup shots of the new MacBook Pro with a "coming soon" message right before the video closes on the Apple logo.

You heard it here first.

And he was the man who didn't make any updates to the Mac Pro, it got its best update under Tim Cook. But even Tim Cook realised there was very little money to be made, no further updates were made. If people would by computers, Apple would make them. Less crying, more buying is the solution.

So let's say Apple releases lightening headphones, will these be compatible with older phones? If so can that be a software fix?

I have no knowledge in how connectors work so any answers to help me understand will be greatly appreciated.

High Margins + Reduced Functionality + Slavish Appeal to Latest Trend = Pet Rock

Gee, that's exactly backwards, if Apple made Mac Pros people actually wanted, they'd have plenty of people to sell them too.

How many did you buy?

You don't buy something you don't want, in the hope that a company will make more of them.

Does anyone know if the front facing camera will be improved for the 7 plus?

Definitely feels that way! Still hoping for some sort of "wow" factor but this isn't the same Apple as years past. They seem to be releasing materials on a "just get by" mentality, instead of pushing the envelope.

When they were the underdog, they need to push the envelope. When they are selling 500,000,000,000,000 phones a year, that is no longer necessary. Getting by is doing them just fine.

So much wrong in one post I don't even...

It's not worth the effort to respond to someone who uses the word "douche" lol - probably 12 years old looking for attention or no friends.

Anyone that thinks apple is on the decline is just guessing because they don't like what apple is doing or they insist on Apple providing products that they have determined to be the way to go. Whether we love their products or not, would you trust someone on MR to run Apple over Tim Cook? No... most negative posts here are childish, but some are great feedback. The guy who responded to you used the word "douche" - enough said.
Apple has been on the decline. That's nothing new. Did you not know this?

so tell me again whats the purpose with having two cameras on the back of the iPhone??

Why don't you read up on the possibilities? There are numerous ways they could do it. Two different focal lengths (wide and tele). Or one sensor with higher low light sensitivity combined with a regular sensor for superior photos in low light. Or two identical sensors for depth of field or 3D. Or maybe something we haven't thought of yet (as I hinted at the A10 will likely pack serious image processing abilities which will allow features we haven't seen yet - in a smartphone at least). Even the A9 can process image data faster than anything on the market, so it's a given the A10 will simply further extend that advantage.

You don't think Apple has great margins on their computers? And based on how much better the integration between my Macs and iOS devices has been getting (including in the Sierra beta) it seems clear Apple sees a future for both devices.

But let's face it - iOS devices will always outnumber Macs. We only have 2 Macs (iMac and MacBook Pro) in our house but 11 iOS devices (4 iPhones, 4 iPads, 2 TVs and 1 Watch).

Going to be very good speed wise. Will likely blow away any other phone in that regard.

Sure they are. Record amount of cash on hand, huge increases in R&D spending on future unknown products, lots of key acquisitions, hiring of top personnel in various industries (like automotive) and they even beat Wall Street last quarter and saw their shares rise 12%. Even the "bad news" in Ireland hasn't caused their stock to drop. In fact, it's slightly up.

Yup, they're on the decline all right.

That's an understatement. Nobody can touch Apple engineers when it comes to designing ARM processors. Not even ARM is as good.

Why would they put a better quality DAC in a headphone, than in the actual phone?

Being able to kick the better quality DAC outside the phone allows the substitution of a lessor, cheaper DAC inside (it doesn't have to be a great DAC for just phone voice analog). That plus jettisoning the headphone jack cuts costs while leaving the price the same. Profit margin expansion.

It also allows them to "thinner," which we all know is all important.

Since there will be some segment that will want to continue using their "good headphones", very profitable adapters will be sold with iPhones, increasing average revenue & profit per device sold. Additional profit will also be made from the licensing by many headphone makers to be able to use the proprietary Lightning connector.

And, once we swallow this pill (and we will- some with mouths already gaping wide while others are already bitter but want or need the rest of the benefits of iPhone ownership even if this is a big hassle for them), it emboldens Apple to think about what else they can eject in future phones (battery? camera? etc), further reducing costs (or fattening margin), further "thinner"ing future phones and enhancing revenue & profit-per-device by the add-on accessory sales for those that must have what USED to be built inside iPhones:
  • Apple already has a battery add-on accessory. It's not a great leap to imagine that becoming the "whole" battery in some future "thinner" phone.
  • Camera already protrudes so much some call it a "wart." Yet iPhones will only get thinner. Laws of physics are laws. How long until the Camera is ejected to an add-on accessory?
Seem insane? I can already hear the usual cast of cheerleaders re-assigning the same spin used in support of jettisoning the headphone jack... such as both battery & camera technology are more "antiquated" than the 3.5mm jack. Now everyone can choose whatever capacity battery they desire. My SLR shoots better quality pictures than any iPhone I've ever had, so why NOT get rid of the poorer quality, redundant camera 'I rarely use.' Etc. All they need to do that is to believe Apple is going to follow this ejection with either or both of those.

On the other hand, the external DAC is not automatically going to be better quality just because it's external. It seems likely that the average Joe won't be able to dig in deep enough to understand why the $30 dongle is much lower quality than the $300 dongle. So that Joe may actually have a lower quality DAC in his phone and a lower quality DAC converting the music to which he listens from digital to analog.

If so- and doesn't that seem likely?- the lower quality of audio playing through wired (via cheap DAC) will make the generally lower-quality of Bluetooth audio sound about as good. Cue sales of very profitable air pods and many praising how it sounds as good as a wired connection.

Geniu$$$$$

Not very exciting, given that Apple has 12 000 employees in R&D.

Obviously they are not spending their time inventing new cool features, instead they are dealing with support for a wide range of devices on a myriad of languages.

They can't even release a Macbook Pro with a Skylake processor, over a year after Intel released it. How hard can it be to put in a new chip?

Seriously Apple, get your sh*t together or you will be eliminated by the market.

The Skylake chipsets most likely destined for the 15" MBP have only seen the light of day in the very recent Intel Skull Lake Canyon NUC and are not shipping in any laptop yet. Skylake is a family of chips that are released over a period of time. Likewise the Skylake Xeons come out next year, etc.

So, my guess is that it's very hard to put in a new chip that's not available.
