I can't see into the future but I wouldn't do that if I were you, (which I kind of am). You'd end up spending about £1000 more for a less powerful machine with less memory, may well be portable but so is a 2009 macbook.
Yeah, it'd definitely involve spending more, but probably not as much as £1000, because I could sell my current MBP (2009, as it happens) and recoup some of the difference,

As for the power, I'd probably go for 16GB, because the upgrade price isn't as ridiculous as it used to be.

What's the power of the 650M like compared to the 6770M?

To get rid of high stock levels maybe? Could that have been why they held off today?

I am clutching at straws.

I guarantee, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that the reason they were not refreshed today is the retina display. The technology and the financing simply isn't feasible at the moment and because of that we are going to have to wait longer to get updated components.

There is absolutely no other reason not to have announced the iMac today. They also won't announce a ship date because then they'd stop selling their current stock.

Poor show.

There was the IM130 that shows up in the bootcamp assistant plist file.... so there must be one around the corner?

big news on the uk store. upgrading ram is cheaper, half the price to be exact.

LOL, that's something at least.

Still more than Crucial (~£35 for 2 x 4GB), but not quite such a piss-take as before!

Although I don't understand why 4 x 4GB costs three times as much as 2 x 4GB instead of two times.

Retina is not the reason why we hadn't Imac today...
the real reason is..stock!
They will approach it ends with Mountain Lion..
mid july end of August.as in the past...
thanks Cook..
ps.
the retina display is a total fail...to gain its qualities
all the appz must be redesigned? Its a MacBooKPro..not an Ipad
Ive...stop bitching!you and Forstall!

The stock? The stock levels let the MacBook be updated and the air too.... There were médium high levels of stock for macbooks

The highest resolution screen EVER in a notebook is "fail" because you say so? No, it isn't.

I didn't get what I wanted from today's keynote eitherm but it's really no reason to bitch and whine in every thread like you are doing.

i was thinking

is it retina or not retina ?

well, actually they didn't make a MBP with retina

they spec-bumped the 13 and 15
and then made ALSO a special (hell expensive) Retina 15

if i see it correctly
to put Retina in the current 21 and 27 iMac would BUMP up the price too much

they also put 1600mhz Ram on Laptops, while on the iMacs they lowered the 1333

pushing people to eat the stocks (imacs 2011)

My guess is we'll see an iMac refresh coming later in the summer/early fall to coincide with the beginning of school semesters.

Even if it's just a slight update to include Ivy Bridge, we're going to see something soon.

Simply weird

Not updating the iMac line with ivy bridge is simply death sentence to the iMac line for now.

well now what, get asn an imac or wait who know how long
? looke like Apple is sparcing out their care for desktops

I think that Apple gives more importance to the portable gadgets such as themacbooks or the iPad.... But i think the iMac should be their main product because it s indeed the knownest product of tim cooks company..

with the new2 nvidia gpu in the mbp, how does the GT 1GB compare to imac 2gb card also, any perf differences with that card powering the retina mbp an non retina one

Ok this is my first post but ive been reading this thread for a while. has anyone noticed they erased "the new" out of the imac title? It was the new imac now its just imac. I think that means a refresh will happen...

15" Retina is very pretty..

but the 650M can't hold a candle to the 7970m or 680M. If you're looking for actual graphic performance, moving your iMac money to a next gen MBP isn't the right move.

This "in the dark refresh" tactic of Apples has annoyed me beyond words. All customers want is information...if you tell customers even something simple as iMacs coming in the fall...winter...whatever....its more than what we have now which is a bunch of pissed off people with no information except our own guesses.

More like because they took out the "new" from the iPad and the Apple TV, there's no way for them to get away with calling the 405-day old iMac "new"

but,,,then why not today?....
to avoid loss in New Mac pro sellings?
ps.New Mac Pro are ridicolous..outdated..usb2,no tbolt...
i think Mac Pro are just selling but not anymore living...
duemto Forstall and his itoys!

It really isn't.

The retina MBP is a massive piece of technology, let's not forget that. I suspect this took a lot of time and effort from the top bods in the design team. Achieving that, plus re-speccing the iMac probably wasn't possible.
