i noticed...i hope you're right.,maybe tomorrow?
but,,,then why not today?....
to avoid loss in New Mac pro sellings?
ps.New Mac Pro are ridicolous..outdated..usb2,no tbolt...
i think Mac Pro are just selling but not anymore living...
duemto Forstall and his itoys!

There was a tweet from 9to5mac that says the ONLY reason why the Mac Pro was "updated" was because Intel simply did not make the old chips for the Mac Pro anymore.

It really isn't.

The retina MBP is a massive piece of technology, let's not forget that. I suspect this took a lot of time and effort from the top bods in the design team. Achieving that, plus re-speccing the iMac probably wasn't possible.

What on earth are you talking about? The iMac design isn't going to change. Aside from the odd placement of SDXC card slot, it's a perfect design. All they need to do is throw an Ivy Bridge and an Nvidia GPU in that bad boy. You're acting like Apple doesn't have the resource to design more than one product at a time.

There IS a possibility that they were/are planning a bigger redesign this year, rather than a spec bump. Then we should see it in a couple months.

Mac pro is incredibly ridiculous... So outdated... I think the iMac will be here soon... But without retina ...main reason: the peixe would be incredibly high and the current screen is similiar to the notebook's released today..

This "in the dark refresh" tactic of Apples has annoyed me beyond words. All customers want is information...if you tell customers even something simple as iMacs coming in the fall...winter...whatever....its more than what we have now which is a bunch of pissed off people with no information except our own guesses.

How long has Apple been doing this now? Decades? We really shouldn't be surprised by such a lack of information regarding future products and services given Apple's track record. Now that a Retina-MBP has been announced people are going to start bickering over when they are going to announce a 13-inch Retina MBP or when they're going to bring Retina to the Air-line.

What Apple's consumer culture has managed to do is argue over when Apple, the company they are so passionate about, will update products they already love. We love the innovation and get excited about anything new they release because it opens up the possibilities, in our minds, for what could be attainable in the future.

I don't think it's "dark" at all. Apple has been this way for a long time and there's no reason to think they're going to change, especially given Cook's comments at D10 last month.

Thats what it all seems like to me. Think about it, it makes sense that Apple are redesigning it. Will have it's own event maybe.

So lame, now I'm not sure what my next move should be. Our old dell laptop has been nursed through the last few months of waiting for this and now nothing, I don't ever want to by a windows machine again, but I also don't want to pay full whack for last years tech, just hope my old pc will keep going until it finally arrives. I'm guessing a lot of the people on here are in the same boat, any recomendations?

if you need a new computer, buy one.

Thinking more on it

I really can't understand apple move.
The iMac is the flagship of the company, they program on this machine every day in Cupertino!!, and it's simply out if date...
Since apple is closed system company one can't buy iMac and upgrade it to ivy bridge, so imagine that buying today iMac is simply a joke compare to the notebook line, no ivy , no usb3 and more...

If you are on the fence and want to buy power computer ( and yes apple not every one wants to buy laptops!) you simply don't have any choice from apple today.
:(

How long should we wait? Is it going to be like macpro? (
Also I really can't understand what is going in Cupertino every one is with laptops and docking stations???

- update funny the pro just updated, so I guess that solve the Cupertino mystery...--- )

If the mac pro upgrade is the kind of crap we can expect for imac, i rather they dont do the upgrade. What a joke, the mac pro upgrade after TWO+ years still dont have a new graphic card...

If apple doesnt care about desktops, they should just kill the line and be done with it.

:mad::mad::mad:

It looks like the iMac wont be updated for a while.....maybe until retina is a possibility. From a financial stand point, updating it soon also doesn't make sense as they will want to spread releases over time and as a previous posted stated, allow the imac buyers to eat up old stock on memory and any other older components......

Possible but I'm not going to hold my breath. No way are those iMacs worth the money apple are asking.

New imac

When they announced the retina-mb, i was somewhat amazed at the resolution - higher than any other (normal) computer - beat the ipad3. But then, that resolution is exactly 2x the older resolution - so its a given that this helps the transition to new apps - pixel scaling.

The trouble with the imac (which has same resolution as ipad3) is it has nowhere to go ..
they cant just "double up" the pixels (eg cost). What they could do is go to the same res as the retina-mb - its only a small increment, and maybe they would go to 30" or stay the same.

Or maybe they wont do either and go a big jump; and it may be dependent on the screen manufacturers.

Its also possible they may announce later in the week. The keynote was very long - 2h crammed with lots of info; although they slipped the pro into the store unannounced, they may have more things to say on the imac, but wanted to avoid overload in one hit.

iOS6 is going to make the ipod range very under powered - so, one might guess at better ipods later in the year. (Tim Cook said it would be a phenomenal year; its half way thru and the retina-mac is great, but nobody is going to buy as its too expensive).

So, they leave their options open (and I am guessing at every permutation!)

but Apple could swap to Amd...and when Haswell will arrive..MacPro will be still on Ivy?..cmon..its just that Apple doesnt believe in Mac anymore..just in I-Forstall-Toys..

No it isn't. If anything is, it's the MacBook.

Apple is a mobile device manufacturer now.

Absolutely true, thought the iMac is definitely the primary desktop (Mini requiring monitor and Mac Pro being... well, I was going to say too much power for most, but I could also say a piece of $%!@) for the company. Seems the number of desktop to portables is shifting, but not as drastically as Apple's attention to the two lines, IMO.

hm. The Apple.com UK store said "the new iMac" before WWDC... strange, now the "new" has been removed.

Not strange at all, many of us already mentioned it a few pages back. If they took out "new" from the iPad and Apple TV, then they can't get away with calling the iMac "new"

Where are the new iMacs? Heck ...

Its 7:17 am in Australia, and I cannot find details on a new iMac.

**** ... I want USB 3 thanks ... I am now thinking about a Windoze clone, with a decent screen. I've been Mac since the SE-20, had MacII, CX, several powerbooks, had the ultra thin docking book, the good G3 Powerbook, G4 Titanium (not so good as it was delicate), G4 Powermac twin CPU that was very noisy, 24" iMac, the house has a couple of new iPads ... and a couple of Powerbooks and an old dual white macbook too ... but I am now seriously going check out a Windoze machine ... we have a game machine with z64 K2500 CPU (twin overclocked NVidia Gigabyte GeForce GTX 570s) but I cannot see the sense in buying a non USB machine, and spending heaps on old technology. Two year old technology ... I prefer Lightroom for photos anyway over Aperture (I have both). I understand the new iMovide is not as good as the old one (its too simple and I know the old one). May as well learn a Windoze video program ...For video, which is what I need, I have heaps of old video s that need tidying up ... I'll check the windoze alternatives ... F#ck you Apple, you are idle and slack and lazy book pushers.

You used to be a computer company.

Sorry, don't get what point you're making. The new hasn't been on iMac since July 2011. So the new reported above was either a mistake (95% probability) or there's a quiet redesign later on this week (4% probability) or next (1% probability)

He's talking about the "New iMac" within the imac page, not the store front page.

Does anyone have a link to the high-res wallpaper with the running zebra's shown during the keynote?

Love it :)

Just throwing theories out there.

What if the new iMac is based on the design of the new retina MBP? e.g. not ODD, thinner, higher res screen (not necessarily retina), USB3+TB, HDMI, SSD etc.
