It is a good idea but apple is all about less cables and what not, I doubt they would want to have a brick, but its apple so who knows.

I've always wondered how they can put different power supplies in machines shipping worldwide. Wouldn't it be easier to convert at the wall plug and only use one standard in the computer?

The new imac would be coming out and they told me march 1st, and that it will come with a i7 processor that's all they knew about it. and that it will be the same price as the current ones.

new iMac

Hi,

I am planning to buy a 27-iMac with i7 core. But should i wait a bit?. There are rummors of an upgrade and i am wondering if i should be patient and wait?

I do not need iMac right now. I just want to change my currently computer so I decided to invest in mac but i do not want to overpay. i think i can wait about 2/3 months.

Yes wait, with any update you'll get more for your money with faster CPU, USB3, bigger HDD (or SSD) and more RAM for the same money. We might even get a new design next month, the only downside is we might loose the built in DVD but you can always get an external DVD or BluRay later if you need it.

Unless you find the current one going cheap (not eBay) and don't need USB3 then waiting is the best advice.

Right I've decided what I'm going to do.

I've been waiting for the new iMac since May, I bought a desk and a chair ready for it but if it doesn't come out before the end of October then I'm going to sell my current 2009 13" Macbook Pro and get a 15" 2012 one instead.

It's cheaper than a top end iMac now and it's faster too!

Also the plan was to keep this macbook pro and get the iMac as well but this way I would have just one fast macbook plus a little extra cash from selling the old one.

A small part of me is hoping the iMac doesn't come out before November so I can do this but I still would like a desktop and big screen.

Well all I have to do now is wait and see and now that I can put a limit on my wait it's a bit more bearable.

(The thinking is here that if they don't release it in October it's unlikely they'll release it in November or December or probably even January or February either, is that a fair assessment?)

Looks like you're in exactly the same boat that I was in. I had been waiting for new iMacs since January to replace my 2008 Unibody MacBook. I had even bought a new SSD to install in the iMac when I got it. Finally, earlier this month, I gave up and bought a 15" MacBook Pro instead. Installed the SSD in that and it's blazing fast. I don't regret my decision especially considering I'll be in college next year and a MacBook Pro is probably more suited than an iMac.

I'm in the same boat. Have been waiting since February for the new iMacs. I'll give Apple until the middle of October to refresh the iMacs, if not, then I'll be picking up a close to maxed out rMBP. With the exception of screen real estate, there aren't really any tradeoffs as the current MBPs are beasts and can match, if not best in certain areas, the performance of the current iMacs. You also gain the advantage of portability for when you need it. I kinda regret not picking up a rMBP from the start, but then again, its had a lot of QA issues, so maybe Apple has had sometime to address them. I really need a much more powerful machine, and I thought the MBA could hold me over, but my patience is wearing thin. Yes, it's October or next year. I highly doubt Apple would release new products just prior to the year's end. This wait has been a long, pathetic, and miserable one. If there is no new iMac come time the middle of October, I'm just gonna get the rMBP and move on with my life.

I couldn't wait any longer (been waiting since October!) so I brought a MacBook Air in August, it's my first Mac and I love it! the good thing is i'm still gonna buy an iMac when it eventually refreshes but it's a want now rather than a need.

Are these new?
Thats the first time i see them, perhaps one if the reasons behind 2012 Imacs delay?
Notice the timing..but i don't wanna expect so much.

How,in terms of speed-benchmarks/prices with 680m?

That's the first I've seen of an MX.. checking benchmarks now.. Ok, it's a Kepler card (as is the 675MX), although the 670M and 675M are Fermi cards. Thank you, Nvidia, for your clear branding.

Full benchmarks aren't yet available, but the 670MX rates pretty much exactly equal with the 6970m, which doesn't at all compare favorably with the 680M. The 675MX seems to be about halfway between the 6970m and the 680M, which would be a good but not earthshattering performance. Apple would be missing an opportunity if they didn't use the 680M.. and although I could see them going 675MX base and 680M BTO, I'd be quite disappointed if they did.

Yes they are.SORRY i 've posted bad links.
Here are the new ones.

Well its a strange coincidence/timing isn'it?
October,two new Gpu's,two Imac models (21-27)..

Even..perhaps more
675mx and 680 mx

Display Support:
Up to 2560x1600Maximum Digital Resolution
(perfectly matches the 27 isn'it?)
Up to 2048x1536Maximum VGA Resolution

which are the 680m ones, cannot find them

Well the 670MX would be a great choice (better than the 660M) for the high 21 and low 27 models. Since the iMacs were delayed anyway I wouldn't be surprised if these cards entered their consideration, but I don't believe Apple was waiting for them. There are a few directions they could go with the low/mid models, and last year for the top model they used the best-available m-card at the time it was released. The best available is still the 680M, so I think (hope?) they're going that way.

We just can speculate and wait,(but the timing is something IMO).
I'm with you to have the best in new Imac as possible, but 680m is priced something around 400$ isn'it maybe 675 is a nice accomodation in terms of quality-performances and stock production prices (on Apple side).
I'm not so sure they didn't planned this..but who knows.

So maybe 21-27 650m-660mx-675mx ,27 byo with 680m and a 27 retina with 680 m?(or Sli:D?)
Maybe just
21 650m/Bto(?)660mx
27 660mx/Bto 675 mx
27 retina 680m

If they pair a 680M SLI to a 4K (Retina) screen, my wallet might spontaneously combust. I think both components would be cost-prohibitive, and they couldn't sell that this year.

There are a couple realistic options. Note that 21's don't tend to have graphic BTO options, and the High 21 and Low 27 have been using the same card.

Option A: (some BTO option)
L21: 650M
H21: 660M
L27: 660M (670MX BTO)
H27: 675MX (680M BTO)

Option B: (little BTO option)
L21: 660M
H21: 670MX
L27: 670MX (675MX BTO)
H27: 680M

Option C: (no BTO options)
L21: 670MX
H21: 675MX
L27: 675MX
H27: 680M

I am for option B except i see Apple go just with Kepler so :

H21 670MX
L27 675MX
H27 680M
