That was the most useless, speculative article I've ever read. Zero new information. Just some wild speculation about an extra line of code allowing an extra feature - usb booting... which is also enabled on machines with existing optical drives.

This is what happens when you have to fill up and run an entire site that is based on one company's offerings when news is dry.

Are you sure about this? I have the macbook pro 2010 and usb booting is NOT enabled.

Current machines with optical drives are supposedly going to allow it. I assume it has to do with USB3.

Oh I see the confusion. I meant it is enabled via this code for "existing" (meaning those models listed, some of which are already available to buy) machines, not for any/all macs out right now.

Oh gotcha. and yea i don't think the new Mac Pro would lose optical drive since it was also on the same list in that image. If they claim that the iMac could lose the ODD then it's just as likely for the Mac Pro to lose it, which isn't likely at all.

I think in new iMac will be in max:
Intel Core i7 (quad core) Ivy Bridge
Maybe Retina display but I dont mind this...
surely new GPU, if it will be desktop GPU it will be GTX 670 or 680 by nVidia. If notebook nVidia 680M. It will have "only" 2GB GPU RAM because Apple support no more than.
It won`t be AMD because Apple coming for nVidia GPUs and OS X ML support primary them (maybe a step for better future:eek:) because I hate AMD/ATI :D

I don`t uderstant how they want to put desktop GPU into iMac "body"?

My configuration I will buy surely:

Intel Core i7
16GB RAM
GPU: 680M/ GTX 680/670 (only from nVidia GPUs;))
up to 512 SSD
etc.

Well, while we wait for something is clearly not coming yet,
because of Cook's decision to double down both Apple'desktop
(Mini and Imac) here i found this brick which surely hasn't the
Apple shape we all love..but carries within its brick look
all the tech i would love to see it on a Imac..
( and i mean the single pieces of hardware not the double Gpu which won't fit in a Imac,
i mean ,this pieces are actually on the market)
http://www.engadget.com/2012/08/10/eurocom-intros-powerhouse-scorpius-laptop/
You see?Double 680m or 7970m.
If Apple doesn't justify this waiting with a redesign (the lamination issues)i will be very disappointed.
I hope Cook stops to double down, even because it is not with all the Iphone5 leaks we have!,just with desktops.

Forget lamination issues, Apple should be more concerned with our lamentation issues.

I would like, to be frank ,to forget this endless threads of Imac's rumors
to go buying my first Imac today, but Cook doesn't agree and wanna force me to buy a new Macbook pro..except the tiny fact i want a desktop instead,
but he double down all my expectations, because i'm irrilevant.
But i'm happy 'cause i'll buy a 2012 Imac next 2013.Great.

I think Jonathan Ive could be better to lead Apple... Because he is "developer"

I don`t know why but after Jobs death Apple is slower... With S.Jobs they release new product every year and there were no problems... And Apple had a lot of money... If Cook thing "People don`t want to wait for desktop Macs, they will buy MBP with fantastic nVidia graphics." It is really, away from reality...

:apple: is killing their desktop users with this "no" release of Macs...

I am really  and  and :(

If Apple,Cook,Board doesn't change coming back to the old Apple i used to love, next Mac will be the last one i will buy for very long time.

Hey look, someone else forgot that the iPhone 4S was "late". Trust me, Steve was still driving that after he stepped down as CEO.

The lack of 2011Mac Pro was also under his watch. And 2010 Mac Mini. I could go on, but that's just off the top of my head.

No, say what you want about Steve, but a flawless executor he was not. Absolutely nothing is happening with the 2012 iMac that wouldn't have happened with Steve still here. All this has happened before....

The only things that might have changed are your memory, your expectations, and whether a specific delay affected you.

Exactly...

What about the form factor?
Any clues to a new form factor?
I personally hate the chin and hope they get rid of it on the next update.

I really appreciate i mac 2012 as its applications are versatile and unique. It is the most useful and sophisticated in the apple i mac series, its printing application is describing full story here. I am keenly waiting for the next approach of apple.

TROLL/SPAMMER by the way if we put our mouse on your link it will show us the address without us clicking on it :p .

Well, as September 12 approaches, any rumors or ideas of what this has in store for the iMac? From what I'm hearing, iOS devices are the feature of this event, but if the screen and GPU delays are finally past, it would be a good time to at least 'silently' release a spec upgrade.

A sister thread on MacRumors discussed thoughts that an Ivy Bridge iMac won't ever happen... I see their logic, but I don't think Apple is abandoning the iMac just yet. With all the other evidence linked in previous posts, I think a further delay will simply mean the spec boost will wait for the full aesthetic refresh in 2013, likely with a "retina" (resource-hogging) display.

I think I'm about done waiting. I will be ordering an iMac on Sept 13th: either a new one, or a refurbished Sandy Bridge. The longer we wait, the more likely it is the Ram will come soldered to the motherboard.

iMac G4 17'', 1.25GHz, 768mb RAM, 80gb HDD, Nvidia FX 5200 ULTRA 64mb.
A new iMac will be one heck of an upgrade for you, buddy!
But that style is so nostalgic; don't get rid of it!

What is also possible is Apple skipping Ivy Bridge on the iMac and Mac mini side of things as a majority of those customers likely won't care about whether the internals are Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge. Then when Haswell comes out, they could just do a full sweep refresh of the entire Mac line, or at least of a bulk of it. Because honestly, I know of very few people out there prospectively interested in a Mac mini that care about the fact that it still has Sandy Bridge in tow. Similarly, I know of very few people out there prospectively interested in an iMac that are much more concerned with the forthcoming design changeover than they are about whether the internals are running Sandy Bridge vs. Ivy Bridge vs. Haswell.

As for non-removable RAM; I somewhat doubt that they'll do it with an iMac; but realistically, your SSD drive is more likely to need replacing after a while than your RAM; and cracking an iMac open to do that swap, with the current design is a total bear.

I know, I love the design and I also have a Dell for heavy lifting.

With all the talk of making the iMac thinner, would it be too far-fetched to have them remove the power supply and have a power brick (I call them wall warts) on the power cord? I like not having a wall wart on the power cord, but it would save space and possibly thickness while also reducing heat inside the case.
