It would be great if both displays on the iMac and the atd were at the same height. Apple also likes a seamless integration thru there hardware and software. If both the iMac and atd had the same look and feel it would create a symmetry across the line.

No it wouldnt lol, it would create confusion!

I agree that the iMac would look SLIGHTLY better without the chin, but there are far more important things i'd like to see. Desktop GPU, Retina, 30" or 32" screen, replacing the ODD with a third HDD/SSD, etc.

Ditto.

I wish they'd come up with a different stand that one does not have to worry about scratching. The aluminium very easily gets marks, sometimes which you see in one angle and not in another.

I loved on my old BenQ monitor how you could place external drives or books there:

First post. Have been following these posts for some time. I am waiting to buy my first iMac.

Would like to see at least 8GB as base without any price increase, otherwise the wait for the 2012 would not be worth the wait. Non-glare would be good.

Original MacBook Air; iPad2; iPhone 4s

I dont care to much for whats coming at the minute, I'm away with work for three months starting in a couple of weeks! I bought a new iPad last week some I'm very happy, just hope there is a refresh when I get back in September :D

Cheap RAM is your benchmark for whether or not the 2012 is worth the wait?

If new iMacs come with 1600MHz RAM, which rumored benchmarks indicate could be coming, how long does it typically take OWC and other vendors to offer faster RAM once new models ship requiring or supporting faster RAM?

Crucial, for one, already has it for sale. It's not like Apple invented the RAM.

I'm getting the feeling that too many people buy their RAM from Apple...

Here's what I'm hoping for:
1. Looks good.
2. Ivy Bridge.

Easy to please? ;)

Crucial doesn't seem to have any 8GB PC-1600 SODIMM sticks available, but NewEgg has plenty in the $60-70 range. We'll have to wait until the iMac is released to see which of those are compatible. Apple tends to be a bit picky about the CAS latency, but I've had great luck even with cheap RAM as long as that matches properly.

First post here but have been lurking for some time.

Eagerly awaiting the launch of the new iMac as I'm currently hobbling along on, wait for it, an iBook G4 purchased in 2005. It's still running admirably and I've not had one problem with it so it's with a heavy heart that I'm upgrading it, but even basic tasks are slow now.

Debating whether to go for the new iMac or a MBP (based on portability concerns) but I could be tempted to go the iMac/iPad 3 route, but that might take a bit more saving.. Anyone got any thoughts?

Either way, counting down the days until the refresh with you all.

The iPad/MBP/MBA discussion is all about exactly what it is you want to do on your portable computer.

Absolutely. I understand that ultimately I need to make a call on it but I can't seem to make my mind up.

My use is casual; mainly browsing, films, music etc. I don't do anything high end like video/image editing. So I'm fairly sure an iPad would suit my home needs perfectly with an iMac in the bedroom for films and TV, but that seems excessive somehow. The MBP also seems to represent worse bang-for-buck than an iMac but then I suppose one pays a portability premium.

Hoping and Waiting...

I am also in the market for an iMac in which I can be able to purchase one as early as next week. The only thing that's keeping me from buying it next week is the knowledge that Apple releases the new line of iMac around this time of year. I am a web graphic designer and work with HTML. What concerns me the most of the much rumored retina display is that text might appear smaller. I can't imagine working with text on a high-resolution retina display all day long.

As far as what I would like to see in new standard iMac is a minimum of a 2TB hdd(7200rpm), 2.7Ghz i7 CPU, 8gb of 1600Mhz ddr3 RAM( i have gut feeling they'll stick with 4GB minimum), additional USB 3.0 ports replacing the super drive and anti-reflective glass.

I really hope that the June launch is just rumor and they launch in May. I can't wait any longer:(

Actually, working with text on a retina display is much easier. In fact, that's almost the whole point of retina displays, is to make text easier to read.

This is Apple, they will do it right. Text will use more pixels per character than on a non-retinal display.

I use 1600 MHz ram in my 2011 macs so I don't understand your question.

Apple are working on HiDPI modes, which will make icons and text ect larger so its still readable.

All part of ML

Those are perfect tasks for an iPad. Then the question is what tasks beyond those you want to do.. if all you want to do is watch iTunes vids/Hulu/Netflix/etc., you could do that with any 27-32" LED TV and an Apple TV (the somewhat poorly named $99 set top box), and stream from your iPad or directly off the 'net.

The iPad/iMac combo works perfect for me, but I play Tier 1 video games on my iMac, and once in a while need to work on resumes or other tasks that aren't optimal in touch interfaces yet.

How does it create confusion?

How would the usual customer tell the difference? Apple isn't going to make the iMac look exactly like that. People can thumb me down all they want, but the fact remains that the majority of people wouldn't be able to tell the difference and become confused which completely conflicts with apple's design purpose. You see and iPad and you automatically know it's an iPad. You see an iMac and immediately know it's an iMac. All apple needs to do is just raise the height of it to line up with the iMac.

Not mention they wouldn't have as much room for internal components. Keep dreaming people it's not gonna happen.

I don't think the type of person to be confused is going to purchase a monitor as a computer so confidently that they walk out of the store with it.

I'd argue that those people already confuse the ACD and iMac as it is now.
