I wish sub 16” apple laptops had a screen ratio of 4:3 (ie. 16:12) instead of the current slightly improved 16:10. It is so much better for productivity work and you get some real useable vertical space. Alas apple has long abandoned pro tools in favour of all out esthetics…

I mean I hope you’re right. I would be overjoyed if we saw lower prices in any capacity. That 14” MBP looks like a beast, but I can’t justify the $2,000 for it (that’s before the extra money I’d want to pay for 1 TB of storage). That’s just me.
Get the M1 MacBook Air instead? I'd love to get a Pro myself, but it's more than I want to spend right now not to mention it's more machine than I really need.

MacBook Air 13.3" Laptop - Apple M1 chip - 8GB Memory - 256GB SSD

Apple Silicon really need better GPU performance. M1 Max is not even close to laptop RTX 3080 instead of laptop RTX 3060 for 3D stuff. Even for video, Mac take advantages from media chips and ProRes Encoder/Decorder, not really from GPU itself. Too limited to use and it's better to expand to 3D software.
You say so? Huh ??? They need better GPU performance ? Let me ask you this. What line of work are you in and how do you make use of the GPU? What tasks do you run ? What type of processing math do you do. I say that because, even if you are using the GPUs to mine crypto currencies. What is available now, goes head to head with dedicated devices 4 times the cost. So let’s be real

For me the world is on track for a big old recession so it would be nice if they lowered their prices. My biggest gripe is the prices the charge for SSD upgrades, its criminal!

Plus because we all create so much data with our photos and videos we should all have 8Tb drives to house them all as standard lol
I’ve been hearing them talk about a recession since about 2018, so I really have no idea which idea we’re headed. I ponder whether the economists just pull numbers out of their rear ends. Nonetheless, I can only speak for the US, things have only been getting worse and disposable income has been going down. So I do think people are going to start thinking long and hard about iPhone upgrades that aren’t necessary, or, an extreme example, a cheap Windows laptop as opposed to a $1,000 machine. They both browse the web, send emails, and run Microsoft Office after all.

Agreed on the SSD prices. I picked up a Windows laptop last year (I specifically wanted Windows) and I upgraded the SSD to a 1TB drive for like $110. I look over at Apple land and it’s just criminal what they’re charging. Like you, I have a ton of videos and photos. I need my space. Granted, those backups go on external drives which are cheap anyway. But I digress.

The minor spec bumps don’t excite at all. Europe will be too expensive by a long way as always too. Best we can hope for is a huge discount on the outgoing M1 models as a result. Which is a good result in itself.
If price is of concern to you, then Apple products should not be on your list of devices. Apples are premium machines geared towards those that have the means.

I’m just saying that with Apple’s record profits year over year, I think that they see their target market is accepting their ballooning prices and continuing to pay them. Depressingly. So why change? :(

I do think the time is coming where Apple won’t be able to get away with their pricing any more. They’ve gotten so bad with their nickel and diming. I don’t know when that time will be, but I believe it’s coming. You may have seen me post elsewhere a phrase my dad taught me a while back: Pigs get fed, hogs get killed. Too much greed and people won’t take it any more.
If you are worried about pricing, Apple products should not be on your list of desired gear. Apples targeted customers are those people that don’t complain and nag about dollars. You might want to look at Windows devices, Maybe HP or Dell.

Good point, and I appreciate the tip about the sale. Thank you.

I did mention wanting the Pro, but to be honest I actually purchased a Windows laptop last year for less money than the MacBook Air and I upgraded the storage to 1TB for just $110 more. And it has a 90Hz OLED panel. I’d be hard pressed to go back to Apple any time soon when I can get this kind of value from another company. I hope to see Apple offer better value because that’d simply be great for everyone.

I’d say it’s fair to complain about pricing, no matter who you are. You don’t want to just willingly take it every time you’re nickel and dimed do you? Apple is laughing all the way to the bank. The losers are us.

wonder how much this would cost on ebay in 2033?
probably $300 with a lame battery.
free shipping tho!

Hey @Joe Rossignol I think you forgot Bluetooth 5.3

And what can we expect from the M2 Mac mini? Probably the same: New M2 and M2 Pro chips, maybe the M2 Pro starting with 16GB of LPDDR5 (hopefully), and all this new radio stuff with WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3

I wish the Mac mini had a redesign, honestly.

The pricing will probably be double, but they will continuing offering the comparable current models alongside at $100 less than their current price.

Yeah i have a friend who’s been talking about it for years! I suppose one day he’s bound to be right.

Here in the UK it’s our gas and electricity that are killing us. In the commercial sector electricity has quadrupled. Some Restaurants and body shops even are paying up to 10k a month in electric alone

I thought for sure we would be looking at updates once every two years... Is it worth the upgrade from the Oct 2021 MBPs? Still runs decent, but 6E is attractive. Thoughts?
I have nothing else at my home that has 6E so that won’t mean much to me.

22% is marginal? It is quite impressive as a jump between genetarion especially considering M1 Pro / Max are already incredible
22% best case scenario is not marginal but also not as substantial as intel > m1. the reason why folks are writing off 22% is because there isn't too much of a real world difference, now if the mac can do gaming? yeah 22% would be quite the jump since it could mean 60 fps +

It’s a bit sad that Apple is at the point where their computers are so powerful and efficient, made with lasting materials, and priced competitively that changes and improvements they make annually are no longer exciting (to me at least).

The M1 really transformed their product lines and gave them enough headroom in processing power and efficiency to then focus on fixing some of the neglected components like the keyboard and screens. It seems like they’re going to need a few more years before there is anything ground-breaking done with the lineup, and we’ll see incremental improvements this year and next.
True. But not a problem. Par for the course ....and with other tech also.

I'm still on the 2017 MBP...which runs just fine. 2016 ( I think ) iPad Pro. Will probably go with a new iPadPro and wait another year or so on the MBP. Also have a sneaking suspicion that when the (consumer) goggles come out they will require / be best pared with a top of the line machine. Just a thought.

For MBP workloads transistor budget is far better spent on the neural engine. This is what does the acceleration where PC's will use the GPU. As you mentioned Apple silicon already has dedicated media IP so GPU isn't tapped for that. The only use for the GPU would be games, and rendering, and we know how much Apple cares about that market for macOS.
