The disappointment is the lack of innovation at Apple.
Look at all the other laptop manufacturers. They are releasing new form factors, new features, new visual looks & honestly have started to close the gap on quality/luxury that Apple offered.

That being said, I could never use WindowsOS and even though the Mac OS is boring - it is still simpler than clunky windows (although the rate Apple is going, they will catch up soon)

How many "new form factors" are honestly any good? My company is Windows only so I have been through several of these Hybrids and other form factors and honestly, they suck - just give me the classic laptop, but do it well! Would LOVE a Mac - no fancy touch screen, flip over weird stuff, just do it well. It's not a toy, but meant to be productive!

Imagine they’ll drop the new Apple Car, with MagSafe charging and powered by a special version of a M3 Chip, u never know ;-)

I would love to see a complete new Magic Mouse with much better ergonomics that would be awesome

I dropped quite a few pennies on a fully loaded M2 Ultra Mac Studio in June. Even if Apple released an M3 Ultra this soon, (and it doesn't sound like they will), it wouldn't matter because this thing is more powerful than I will probably ever need...and that's a nice feeling.

If I were one of the countless people (still) waiting on a 27" iMac, I would be both excited and nervous for this event. If after this event, Apple still don't have a 27" (or larger) iMac in the lineup, I'd be curious to know what you guys plan on doing. Surely you'd have to start seriously considering other options like the Mini or Studio?

Let’s be honest, this website and all analysts are utterly clueless about what will be announced today. This article today states no new iPads yet this one yesterday claimed possibly new iPad Mini:

So I’ll ignore ALL the so called predictions, they have been a bit of a disaster since the Apple Watch Series 8 total redesign and iPad Mini 6th gen launch date fiascos. With this site and analysts being 100% wrong in both cases.
Some may argue such stance kills off the buzz of this site, but so does being disappointed after mismatch between rumor and reality.

Totally the correct stance imo.

Looks like another future competitor trying to announce early to try and preempt Apple...

Nimo - World’s first Spatial Computer for Productivity that fits in your pocket - YouTube

...perhaps some pipeline news or a product introduction on Vision Pro tonight?! :)

I think Windows has something similar with WSL, and it's very easy to install. No science degree required, no compromises or crashes.

What is Windows Subsystem for Linux | Microsoft Learn
Install WSL | Microsoft Learn
It's not without compromises, at first it looks great, but if you need something more complicated, you'll find out that it's not a fully functioning linux, like no systemd, or you can't remotly ssh into it without some console hacks which might not work at all.

But it is higher end versus lower end. MBA costs half as much and is lesser in every possible way except weight. It is not "just a different category for people doing different work." MBA provides lesser display and lesser speakers, for instance, no matter what work is performed.

That is not to say that many folks, perhaps most, should not buy the lower end MBA.
And for a lot of people weight is the number 1 factor, closely followed with a smaller display translating to smaller size. If the rumors about the cheap macbook are true, and it will be indeed a 12-13" machine, then Apple leaves serious money on the table by not positionion them as small and light premiums. The Air brand is kinda wasted now.

Looks like WSL has systemd since last year,

On SSH, there are limitations as you said. We’ll have to wait and see if they make changes in the future.

Still dreaming of a hybrid iPad/Mac thingy, something that behaves like an iPad when undocked, and like a laptop when docked. And without it feeling clunky or ‘worst of both world’. It’s a fantasy, I know 😊

I think in addition to updated MacBooks, Apple will announce a game console.

It explains why they’ve included raytracing in the M series of APU’s, the VR headset coming out next year, updating the Apple TV UI, and Spatial audio as well being a home theater hint.

it slots in really well with what they’ve been doing.

Dude, please stop talking! You clearly have no clue what you are talking about. Not everything is on iPad and when I used Maya I thought you would get the stupidity of the idea but clearly you didn't.
iPad is not for everything - the sooner you get it the better responses you will get to people. Until then, please re-educate yourself so you don't confuse others with your utopia.

Why would I waste time trying to install an app that isn't available for iPad Pro? If that thinking is how you attempted your transition to iPad Pro, I'm not surprised it ended in 80% disappointment. Find an alternative solution engineered for iPad Pro if Autodesk is stuck in the past.
