Seems that tomorrow we will see a silent update with skylake may e 720p camera, 10h battery and usb-c gen 2

How exactly have the silent updates worked in the past? More specifically, has apple ever introduced a companion size to a product line (hypothetically a 14" Macbook) during a silent update? Or are things of that magnitude reserved for larger events?

I crave the extra screen real estate a larger macbook would provide and the slim form factor, and don't need any of the bells and whistles apple stripped out of their other macbook lines.

I just had a thought, would it make sense just to phase out the air and the 13'' MBP altogether? That way there could be two screen sizes, both offering 'pro' hardware. So you would have the 12'' MB and 12" MBP, 15" MB and 15" MBP.
For example, the pro features would include quad core CPUs and discrete GPUs.

i know is a magic hour when apple usually updates its site for a silent update, anyone knows what it is?

Yup, on the Dutch site Macbook is now Thursday delivery, everything else is Wednesday. Air is Wednesday too so it looks like they're not removing it from the line-up YET.

While this does not apply to iPhones, I actually think removing the headphones jack from the laptop, replacing it with another USB-C and offering a 19 euro dongle would make lots of sense. I have no interest in carrying adapters in my pocket, but the Macbook is dongle central anyway and another USB-C would make users' life easier. Hopefully we'll see in a few hours.

I have to admit I bought the new MB but actually returned it. The primary reason for returning was the quality of the webcam and it didn't feel as comfortable to use as my MB air (keyboard, and weight). The webcam a technical thing and I guess the other points more of a personal thing.

I have a MBP, MBA and instead of the MB I now have the new surface 3.

I am really looking forward to the second gen.. but in the meantime I am amazed how much I like my surface 3.

Really? I own the surface pro 3mand I am on my fifth i7 model. For over two grand it couldn't be a bigger piece of crap. I regret moving to the surface more than any other machine purchase in my life

As for the MacBook. I moved from the small iPad Pro to the big one...but I'd have to consider now changing to the MacBook as I slap a,keyboard on the pro a lot. I don't know how good / poor MacBook speakers are but I think for ,y needs the surface pro 3. iPad airm2 and new MacBook would pretty much cover all my bases. The new MacBook is,probably,h going to be faster where I need it than the i7 surface pro 3 with weak Intel 5000 graphics, the old one was not much slower. And the new graphics chip means using Lightroom and a few other tools should be quite comfortable. For photographers, not digital, artists who use photoshop to do things you couldn't do in a darkroom but for photographers who, develop only to the level of a darkrooms capabilities the new MacBook should be a great mobile tool.

Hopefully it's announce well before I have to decide on the iPad, though after seeing used prices on the pro iPad for like new machines, I'm not user I can justify buying new anyway.

Same, here in Spain...

This is beginning to feel like that Reddit MacBook leak, where the Reddit user who claimed he was an Apple Store employee, stated that his store had ran out of stock and that the 2015 rMB was 'discontinued'.

The plot thickens.

based on what? just curious, is there a specific time of the day when they release silent updates?
btw, i also think they'll come out today.

on a side note: i have no good memory, but i recall apple hasn't been sticking to their tuesday release tradition lately, isn't it?

just flashed on my Bloomberg screen -

The updated MacBook features sixth-generation dual-core Intel Core M processors up to 1.3 GHz, with Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.1 GHz, and faster 1866 MHz memory. New Intel HD Graphics 515 deliver up to 25 percent faster graphics performance, and faster PCIe-based flash storage makes everyday tasks feel snappier — from launching apps to opening files.* And now with up to 10 hours of wireless web browsing and up to 11 hours of iTunes® movie playback, MacBook is the perfect notebook for all day, on-the-go computing.**

No price drop. Still 480p.
Just Skylake. Nothing else.

This is the bottom end of even the most pessimistic projections.
faster ssd, faster Ram,faster graphics,1h more battery life. So it is a nice macbook for those who waited and not having the 1st gen

Yep. A minor update as I expected. Most other wishlist items would have required retooling.

Surprised and a bit disappointed that the specs still indicate 4k support only at 30hz. That would have been about the only compelling update.

I just don't understand why people thought otherwise. A minor update was all that it was ever going to be. So many people were convinced that there would be a second port, but there was never a chance of that happening. There is quite literally no extra room for another port. They keyboard is in the way!

And people also thought that there would be TB3 and USB 3.1, Gen 2? Again, there was no room on the logic board for the Alpine Ridge controller.

If people would actually learn about the products they are interested in, perhaps people would have better, more realistic expectations. Oh well.

It does too.. I missed that.
One of the main hopes for Skylake.
This is not very compelling. Apple continues to disappoint.
With any luck that's a typo. Guess we'll see.

Graphics and Video Support
Intel HD Graphics 515

Dual display and video mirroring: simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 3840 by 2160 pixels at 30Hz on an external display, both at millions of colours
