B&N Criterion sale is on (50% off for every Criterion title).
I bought,
1984, directed Michael Radford
Grand Hotel Budapest, directed by Wes Anderson
Indagine su un Cittadino al di Sopra di Ogni Sospetto (Investigation on a citizen above suspicion) directed by Elio Petri, soundtrack by Morricone, and a movie I will enjoy in its original language.
If you’ve never seen Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion, you are in for a wonderfully messed up treat. It’s my favorite Elio Petri film, Florinda Balkan and Gian Maria Volente are fantastic. Investigation earned that Oscar for best foreign film. I will be curious to hear what you think.

Amazon matched the price of B&N Criterion sale for their new Bruce Lee set and the Godzilla set I’ve been wanting since release, so I just caved on both.

So sorry to hear about your dog.

Years ago I got concerned my shrink was increasing my happy pills for no obvious reason. Since I felt that they were having an overall negative effect on me I up and quit both the pills and my shrink.

I looked her up again a couple of weeks ago as we were going through old papers, and it turned out she was eventually disciplined and suspended for over prescribing!

Guess it all worked out for me as I eventually went on some totally different, generic, low grade pills that no longer make me feel like a zombie (but cost me over $100 a month) but just take the edge off the worst life throws at me (that I pay just $4 a month for).

Congratulations for getting out of that rabbit hole we call "the mental healthcare system". I've been locked in for most of my life and still depend on it for medicine, but one day I pray I'll end up self-sufficient and free. Oh well. For now, I do my best and take my pills one day at a time.

I watched Investigazione many years ago (I grew up in Italy), however I can't say I remember much of it. I remember the general plot and some scenes here and there.

Good deal on the Criterion sale on Amazon! I am waiting for Elephant Man, I think it will be released in October and the next B&N sale will be in November...

Watching Star Trek TNG yesterday where the credits open with the typical Enterprise flyby shot, and while I’ve noticed it for years I’m struck by how stupid it looks to show the ship surrounded by and traveling through little golf ball sized “stars”.

Few other older sci-fi shows made that error—not Babylon 5, not Buck Rogers, not Lost in Space. Yet for Star Trek it was a given.

I think a lot of us are so used to it we barely notice it anymore, but when you stop to think about it, it’s the one thing about the show that really hasn’t aged well. I don’t have any of the streaming services that show the latest Treks, so I don’t know if they’ve stopped doing that.

I like STNG so much that I will forgive it a lot, even silly optics (that may not have aged well) in the opening credits.

Who told you that they are stars? They could be debris from a planet that was destroyed by some other civilization...

I was a huge Mac crusader against the evil Microsoft goliath, a mac evangelist if you may.

But I am afraid now Apple has grown too big for our(or their) good. It has become so big and so integrated that it really feels like its a cult, and leaving Apple ecosystem feels like breaking from shackles. There is just so much reliance on 1 company for many products and service that keeps people's lives running. Apple is the only company that controls the hardware AND software.

While biking, I found this little nugget bopping on the side of the road.

I ended up putting it on the other side of a tree that was growing near the road; judging from the white splotches nearby, there was a bird nest somewhere in the tree.

Indeed, it is very unusual for a new user to come here and go straight to, and only to, Community Discussion to post new threads asking established members personal questions.

For most, if not all, of us, we came here first for support on an Apple product, or to learn more about a new Apple product. Eventually, we found Community Discussion where we decided to stick around and develop relationships, and friendships with one another, and even a few marriages were had via MacRumors forums.

But to come straight here asking personal questions, while offering very little in return or followup dialog with no ties to Apple products or needing support on said Apple products is suspicious to me.

Data mining of a newbie in Community Discussion.
I've noticed that, too..... Nine different threads all asking questions which seem to be rather personal.... Why join a primarily tech - focused forum and only participate in the Community Discussion subforum?

Hm.

This unworthy thought also occurred to me.

Very strange.

Did anyone in England see the flying ant swarms? I thought I was back in Africa where the swarms (locust) are causing havoc this year.
