Got up early to watch Oregon Ducks play UCLA in the Final Sixteen basketball tournament, earlier USC upset Alabama to move on to the Final Eight. The Oregon Beavers are already in the Final Eight. Whoever wins this game will mean three PAC-12, (Pacific Athletic Conference), will be in the Final Eight.
You got up early to watch ducks and beavers? Sounds like a wildlife photography trip!

Nothing too drastic. Just some promises that were not kept (at work).
Well, yes, agreed, that can indeed be very disappointing.

Hopefully, the consequences aren't all that serious.
Well hopefully the long weekend will give you something else to focus on.
That thought crossed my mind, as well.
Well my assistant handed in his notice today. Grrrrr.

Ah, ouch.

And you lost a colleague quite recently, in tragic circumstances, also; not at all a nice way to start the week-end.

Definitely not. He’s been head hunted and it’s a great opportunity for him. He realises he has nowhere to go unless I leave at our place. Today was my 13th anniversary so I’m sort of there for the long haul.

Barmy weather. It’s 26.5 in the lounge. The sun is streaming in.

Ah, well, the very best of luck to him, in that case.

I assume that he will serve a period of notice, rather than departing immediately.

Ah, yes, first-of-the-month time -- that means my monthly backups! Most of my bills are handled automatically online (mortgage, insurance, HOA dues, cell phone bill, etc.) and only a couple do I need to do manually, and that only if I've actually incurred a bill during the month.

I am wishing that the sky would brighten up a bit and that it would get warmer today, as I'd like to go out and commune some more with the delightful tulip magnolias and the cherry blossoms. However, it's grey and windy so not really an ideal day for photography.

First of the month means I have reports to run!

Bills, beer, cheese, Covid, Easter.
Sigh, having a Valaisanne Lager (yes they also make great beer as well as world-class wine), had a Gruyere pocket, not my Easter (Greek Orthodox by upbringing but I'll take the quiet weekend). The **** with Covid but getting my second shot next week so there's that.
I’ll take 2 of those. You can keep the other 3.
I am guessing you like beer and cheese? Easter is ok for the chocolate, but Greeks roast lamb, make terrific cookies and tresses with a red egg added. Fun all around.

Bingo. Not a fan of Easter. Or any other holiday if I'm honest. Other than 2 days off work (well most likely 1.5!), its just another weekend.

Some workplaces in the US give employees a paid day off/holiday ("Spring Holiday") at or around Easter -- either Good Friday or Easter Monday -- but it is not a national holiday here. Many, but not all school systems usually have "spring break" right around Eastertime, too, either the week leading up to Easter Sunday or the week following Easter Sunday. That pesky thing in the Constitution about "separation of church and state" is rather awkward and gets in the way.....

Right now the local county school system is wrestling with decisions about the 2021-2022 school calendar, and those responsible are juggling around three or four days which haven't been formally given as holidays in the past, trying to acknowledge our diverse multicultural community here and respecting everyone's customs and traditions. I daresay it's been somewhat of a headache for them!
