Just because you put a case on a phone doesn't mean the color becomes irrelevant.

That's like saying why buy a 128gb phone when it does the same thing as a 16gb?

Everyone has a preference. A color of phone is a way to differentiate your taste. If this wasn't the case, why would apple even offer different color phones and cases.

You sound like the type of guy who wears the same shirts everyday because there's no real reason to be different.

Couldn't have said it better

I got some of my OCDness from my youth collecting baseball and then basketball cards. They had to be mint and centered. Always put a plastic sleeve case or hard plastic case over my most prized ones. But then I started thinking about Howard Hughes and Howie Mandel. I don't want to have their disease. More anxiety attacks. Limits your enjoyment.

I can understand wanting to sell it later in excellent condition, but all you are doing is a favor to the next owner. And for what? Maybe an extra $50 for it? Just ROCK-N-ROLL with it! We are not going to be using this phone forever. Liberate your mind from being OCD! Don't get weird like Howard Hughes and Howie Mandel. The inability to shake another person's hands would bother the crap out of me more or having an even amount of peas.

Our lives are temporary. These phones we use our temporary. Do you really think we will be using an iPhone 7 about 30 years from now? I doubt it passes 5 or even 10 years. Like that Kansas song, "Dust In The Wind", we can't take possessions with us when we are dead. We will either be rotting underground or in ashes while your iPhone 7 is rotting in some landfill someday. We have black appliances all over the house more expensive than this phone. Do we dust it off every hour?

Covering it up with a case is like a Afghan woman with a beautiful face and figure needing to be covered because of Muslim laws. You don't buy shoes just to leave it in the box. You don't buy a supercar to never drive it. I worried about this with a black onyx Note7. I told myself, "Screw it! Just do it! " I worked for Virgin and it's a Richard Branson mantra. Who cares about this OCD nonsense? Nobody cares if you have a mint condition iPhone except maybe the next owner (maybe some random stranger) who wants it.

Enjoy your jet black iPhone like there is no tomorrow. Enjoy it like it is your last day on Earth. It's all temporary anyway just like our lives. Covering it up and trying to maintain it as mint condition or worrying about smudges or scratches will only limit yourself from full enjoyment. Just have fun and enjoy... :)

Jet Black
+ More uniformed look
+ Hides antenna lines the best
+ Hides the camera hump the best
+ More bling factor and standout from its shine
+ People know you have a 128gb minimum and not the cheap 32gb model

Wipe it off or shrug it off, then move along...

^ Do you really want to cover up that iPhone in the far right? That's like dating Halle Berry and you want her all covered up with heavy clothing because of your insecurities. That's being OCD. Breeds high anxiety and insecurities. Pretty design just to cover it up because you're prissy? The late-Steve Jobs would approve of going no case jet black since he was a rebel with a cause. Everything is just temporary. Just rock-n-roll with your iPhones with no cases, dudes and dudettes! ;)

I have always used cases on my phones to protect from scratches, damage and general wear and tear. Partly because I like to keep my stuff in good condition, mostly to preserve resale value since I usually sell my old phone when I upgrade. But I still have to pick a color when I buy a new phone right? Just because I'm going to put my phone in a case doesn't mean I'm just going to pick a color at random. They all cost the same so why not pick my favorite color? With the 7 Plus I chose the Jet Black because I like the way the glass blends into the aluminum. I still got a black leather Apple case to go with it, and I think it'll look great in the leather case with that little bit of seamless glossy black peeking out at the bottom.

Some people like carrying a naked iPhone and choose their favorite color to show it off. Other people like to protect their phones, so why shouldn't we pick a color we like too? I don't know why it's so hard for some people to grasp this concept.

No different than my grandma putting a vinyl cover on her white couch. She never took it off. I think she was waiting for JFK to visit.

No point, OP.

It's a $750+ sexy iPhone worth showing off. I hate cases. Defeats the purpose of buying it for design. That''s like leaving a black Lamborghini in your garage all covered up because you are afraid to get dings or fingerprints on it.

Fingerprints or not, it doesn't change the fact that it is still a sexy-looking iPhone and the reason why you bought it in the first place! Cases are for OCD crybabies. If it gets smudgey, wipe it off or shrug it off! Man up. Simple solutions, OCD sissies.

Flaunt it naked, baby. Your jet black iPhone 7/7 Plus. Not you. ;)
eww, this post is disgusting

i used to not use cases(iphone 4 and 5) Dropped the 4 once. the 5 never. other than the slight nick in the metal band from dropping the 4 my phones were perfect. The 6 came out and it is bigger and slick. I had to case it or I was going to shatter it. Simple as that.. But before cases, I wouldn't even set my phone on a hard surface without something(a napkin, magazine, paper, a book etc.) to avoid scratching it. I didnt get jet black, but if I did, The scratching wouldn't be my worry, its more the shattering when it gets dropped lol.. My worse looking iphone to date after owning all of them for 2 years each is the one that was in a case the whole time getting grit and dust against it which is my 6 I have now..

And you sound like the type of guy that buys a new settee (or couch as you call them over there) and then puts plastic covering on it so it never gets a mark. I've seen it done and its ridiculous

But you can use that 128gb. :S And if you can't see it then how are you being different? If you are using a case all the time the only important factor is your front preference. If you never see it and nobody else does, does the color matter? Just playing devils advocate.

I'm not sure why it bugs me as much as it does that people are so worried about me buying a phone and putting a case on it.

Maybe I'm jaded but it really reminds me of the whole black lives matter movement. Everyone has an opinion and if yours isn't the same at theirs, you're wrong.

Cases are for LUUUUUUUSSSSSEEEERRRRSSSS.

When I'm President there won't be a need for cases anymore. You're going to hold the most incredibly beautiful phone in your hand and you're going to win again. We don't win anymore. We don't win with trade. We don't win with China. We don't win in business. When I'm elected we are going to win with phones again. Mark my words. Just beautiful. I've held a Jet Black phone. It's amazing.

Hearing that a lot of people are really wanting the jet black iPhone 7. And we've all seen the disclaimer from Apple regarding the scratchability and strongly recommending a case on the back.
Which begs the question- if you're getting a jet black because you love the look of the lovely glossy finish, but you're needing to slap a case on which means you won't see it, what's the point of it??

You don't have to put a case on it.

I'm buying a clear case to show off the deep black, and to protect my warranty and resell value at the same time. What the OP or anybody else thinks about people who use cases is irrelevant.

If you're putting it in a pouch, why aren't you just carrying a case?

The iPhone 6 was the first phone I started using with a case, because the combination of size, rounded edges, and matte finish made it incredibly slippery. I'm hoping the "grippy" nature of the jet black fixes this, but if not, I'll be using a case.

edit: found this on daring fireball shortly after posting:

"The single most frequent question I’ve been asked since the event is whether the jet black iPhone is slippery. It’s not. Again, much like the old 3G and 3GS iPhones, the glossy rear surface has a very pleasant tackiness — certainly not sticky, but grippy. Based on my (admittedly limited) time in the hands-on area, I’d call it the least slippery iPhone Apple has ever made."

I actually think the scratches will add character to the phone. The same way it did with the original iPhone. It oddly enough looked really good with some wear and tear.

If you are going to get a case and keep it on, then I guess it really doesn't matter what they make the shell of the iPhone out of. I am partial to cases with some protection because I lost a phone on a vacation when someone elbowed me while I was taking a picture. You never know when that type of thing will happen. If it happens at home, not a big deal, just get a screen replacement. If it happens on vacation, it's a big deal. I am still struggling for what I want to do with this phone. I am thinking I might go with a sleeve and/or a clear skin, and then use a case only when necessary.

I’ll be slapping a case on mine that looks like a melted Galaxy Note 7 which will get even more attention from onlookers.

To me the jet black iphone looks like that molecular bonding spray paint you put on your garden furniture. I wasn’t hypnotized by Ive’s process video.

Why the hostility and sarcasm?
Why the hostile hypersensitivity?

Can't own all of them for 2 years each. Mathematically impossible.

And what happens when you turn it in, if you are in the AUP, and it is full of scratches? And selling, you can never list it as mint, because of the scratches.
