They also suck.

Scratch up very bad and or feel terrible.
Air skin don't suck, doesn't feel like it's in a case

Air skin are more prone to scratch than normal clear cases. Still you put a case on so it doesn't scratch your phone. If it does the case then its done its purpose

I don't get it either. Slapping plastic on it or anyother material defeats the purpose. Kinda funny and laughable on users.
[doublepost=1473738758][/doublepost]The biggest drawback is feel. Plastic vs metal. Not even close. Plastic feels like junk. Metal feels gorgeous.
Think it's more laughable those who don't use a case and there phone gets wrecked yet are the ones complaining

Because, it's a macrumor's tradition to start redundant threads about topics like case or no case, which color is best, how much memory is best, what size iPhone is best. Come on man, get with the program. o_O
love this post in conjunction with your profile pic :D

But really, once you put the iPhone 7 in a case, it looks exactly like an iPhone 6. And if you get a jet black model, you’ll want to get it into a case immediately — my jet black review unit scratched and scuffed almost instantly, and the only time it’s remained fingerprint-free is when we literally handled it with white gloves for the photo and video shoots accompanying this review. Apple is being unusually open about the propensity of the jet black finish to scratch, but beyond that, I’d get the matte black anyway — it just looks meaner.

Jet black iPhone bodies feel just as glossy and slick to the touch as their glass screens, and that unity makes them feel like seamless, cohesive wholes. The entire thing is seriously impressive, even if it feels sort of plasticky.

Then the scratches and smudges appear. I'm not a case person, but I take good care of my things and exercised what felt like a more than reasonable level of caution carrying these new phones around. It didn't even take 24 hours for the first batch of scratches to appear on my jet black iPhone 7's back, which was either the result of placing it on a bar's granite countertop or repeatedly shoving it into my empty jeans pocket. Those little nicks have only multiplied, which could be an understandable deal-breaker for some of you.

I’d have to agree. My iPhone 7 review unit definitely shows fine scratches and abrasions after a week or so of sliding it in and out of my pocket with various other items like the AirPod case and my wallet and setting it down on surfaces.

I typically use my phones without cases, so that’s a data point for you. If you’re going to use a case you’ll be just fine (though why would you choose it then, I dunno). If you plan on running it “naked,” be prepared to take a polishing cloth to it or learn to live with the fact that, just like a car with black shiny paint, it’s going to get the whorls and scratches of any high-gloss surface.

Seems like it's not for the obsessive among us - unfortunately I don't think this will look pristine for long.

Based on what exactly? Any decent case shouldn't get dirt trapped and if people are that worried you clean it every few days

That's what happened to my black iPhone 5. Even getting it in and out of the case was enough to scratch it.

Have you never taken your phone out of your case and noticed pocket lint, crumbs, dust or anything sandwiched between your case and phone?

Why does anyone care if another person's phone is cased?

Do you care if someone is using a screen protector as well?

To each their own.

Never. A form fitting TPU case doesn't allow much room for debris to creep under the case. At least that is true for the brand I normally use.

Which case exactly?
The one I currently have on my iPhone I don't remember the brand name. I brought it in a store, it was some no name brand.

Before this I used these clear cases before. I change my clear cases a lot as clear cases get discolored after about 2 months.

I keep my cookies, change, keys, and sandwiches in other pocket than my phone. Also, turn out my pockets regularly to remove lint, dust and sand.

Been using apple's leather case. So far when I remove it monthly I have found no debris underneath. But I still blow it out wipe phone before putting back on.

I find the space grey 6s Plus too slippery without the Apple leather case. I have seen opinions on both side, more or less slippery for the jet black. I tend to think less slippery as better skin contact with ultra smooth gloss objects. The satin finish of the space gray is slippery. I will know for sure when jet blacky arrives.

This is from a few days of use from an article on 9to5Mac...yikes

And thus the return line starts at the Apple store with all of the JB buyers after a few days but still within the return timeframe.
Yea thats exactly what i was thinking, some are gonna have micro scratches right out of the box and no doubt the anal people who got their JB early will be sucking out all the limited inventory that already exists

I don't understand why whenever someone posts a photo of something there's always a group who cry it's fake or there's abuse. The article was from a reputable website. It's not abuse. It is the same in the Note 7 forums. People claiming the problem is overblown and there device is fine despite the recall.

If you like the JB version no harm. I think it's a beautiful device. One of the best Apple has made IMO even though I didn't order that one.

"After just five days — more than half of which I’ve spent using the matte black iPhone 7 Plus — this jet black iPhone 7 has a few “micro abrasions”, to use Apple’s own term. I can only see them when I’m looking for them, and only when I reflect light off the surface at the perfect angle, but they’re there. This is after two days of careful use, and never putting it in a pocket that contains anything else. The back surface of this phone shows more wear after (effectively) two days of use than my space gray 6S does after nearly a year.1

That said, the unblemished back of the 6S looks downright boring. The jet black back of this iPhone 7 looks glorious. What will it look like after a few months of these micro abrasions accumulate? I don’t know. But I don’t think I care — I love it. If it were the only black finish, I’d buy it in a heartbeat, and I’d accept the accumulation of fine scratches as the nature of the beast. Take a close look at the finish of a black car — you’ll see fine micro abrasions everywhere."

OP, yes, this has left me scratching my head also. Buying JB then putting a case on it implies user will take it out occasionally, coo at it, then slap the case back on. It's a blooming phone not a precious bauble to be babied, crikey.

I can see how cases preserve resale value and add sturdiness, but what I hate about the former argument is that it means you'll never ever reach a point where you can use any phone in the manner you'd truly like based on some future sale.

Equally, (some) people's obsession with a new form factor*.....who then promptly stuff it in a case. Derp.

*Less bezels will be very welcome and overdue of course.
