Both of these limitations stem from the fact that Apple basically adapted the CPU they were going to put into the next iPad into the M1.

I'm fairly certain that the next version (M1x? M2?) will be free of these limitations as it will be a design that was created with Macs in mind, not iPads. This is one of the reasons I'm avoiding M1 Macs and waiting for the next major revision; it's so obvious that they just tweaked the next iPad CPU.
That might be true but the m1 air even with just 8 gigs of ram is a great machine!
True Im using mostly just Logic pro but its awesome!

This is incredibly frustrating as my team has 7 MBPs (2016 model) that we are scheduled to replace this year. And a few of these are beginning to have significant issues.

If my company expects me to use these for 4 years, I'd like to buy the latest technology and "future proof" as best as I can by purchasing MBPs with Apple Silicon.

But, I fear I will have to purchase old Intel models soon, if the forecast doesn't become clearer.
Dang, I hate first-world problems. I am still on my 2012 MB Air and it's still chugging along.

Thats a good point about the 2 monitor setup. I was thinking why the hell didn't they just release the
m1x in the current 14-16" bodies and wait til next year for the redesign? I suppose they wouldn't want
the new pros to support only 1 monitor. I could not care less about the led screen or multi monitor support
but can understand Apple wanting to support those that do.
Yes I'm very happy with my m1 MacBook air and my 2018 mini. But will be very interested in the 32 iMac!

I still have a gut feeling we may not see a redesign this time round, reason behind my thinking is the Touch Bar only being present on the entry level MBP (a marketed PRO feature by Apple for years)… I think if they are getting rid of the Touch Bar it’s highly likely the entry level 13” MBP will cease to exist and the MacBook Air will just become MacBook and will possible continue to feature the Touch Bar and come in at the $1299 price with the pros just being $1799 and $2299

As it turned out, Apple will soon not be allowed to sell its own computers on its own OS with its own services integrated into all of this.
So all those announcements of new devices, OSes, will soon become irrelevant. ;-)

Even though this post contains no new info, the rumors are almost too good to be true. Redesign, improved ARM chip, better and bigger display, more ports, no Touch Bar, good keyboard (I'm still in clacky town)... Just announce it already :)

No redesign means NO BUY for me, I’m willing to shell out $2000ish for a 14” redesign with a new screen-type as well, but not without a redesign. Apple must know this, hopefully you’ve all been voting with your wallets for a while.

So glad the entire planet is 53% dependent on ONE place for semi-conductors. We need to fix this ASAP. It makes zero sense. We learned this with oil. I guess we need to learn it with silicon? China and the USA are chest thumping over the territory too. Just....great.

Rumors have a certain pace to them when something is actually coming, the MBP WWDC rumors had that pace. It seems quite likely they were delayed unexpectedly, which is not something the rumor mill would know about.

But now that puts Apple in an awkward position. Even in this online format, they have yet to be bold enough to hold an event for 1 single product. There has always been more than 1 thing. Clearly MBP's were meant to tack on the WWDC event.

Now that this is past, will Apple host an online event in July just for the MBP? Seems pretty unlikely.
How about this, just release the damn thing. Apple's keynotes are boring anyway. We all know Cook's superlatives. What we need are new products. How about some reality, instead of bling.

I must admit I'm a tad pouty about this. I just traded in 2 old iMacs and an old iPhone for Apple credit, expressly to put toward a new 14in MacBook Pro.

What am I supposed to do? Sit on this credit? I guess I'll have to buy something else then. I'll show them! /s
I sold my 16" 5600M a week before WWDC. :|

Well, reluctantly I bought the 13" M1 because otherwise it was back to my 2009 MBP (which works but my lord zoom kills it). The performance on the 13" M1 is great, but I also feel like I showed them. :(

They have potentially two products to show off though; the new MBP and the "larger" new iMacs. Remember, the 24" iMac was meant as an upgrade to the 21" iMac. We're still waiting for the upgrade to the 27" iMac.
No they don't. We have dozens upon dozens of rumors, leaks, reports, and more regarding the new MBP's that date back a year, and a flurry in the last few weeks/months...just like what happens when they release new products.

There have been zero indications of a new iMac coming any time soon. In Bloomberg's huge rumor dump a few weeks ago, it had all of 1 line about the future larger iMac, and that was to say, "they stopped working on it". Maybe they've started again, but they are no where near to releasing it.

That makes sense, except for those that want to do "real" work with the 13" :)

This is exactly what I am expecting. Those multi-coloured renders from last month being real, but not a redesign of Air – just named "Macbook." With white bezels and all, iMac 24" style. If there's a 14" screen, I'm just going to agonise over the colour.

The idea of "entry level" 13" MBP that is somewhere between Air and a "real" MBP is confusing.

No kidding.

I could do without another BS filled over produced informercial from Apple that lasts 90 minutes and has 59 different presenters.

The kool-aid used to taste better

Apple will release the new MBP's right after you buy the Intel MBP's and it's too late to return them. Happens all the time. Ask me how I know.
