Strangely enough the 7-11 stores in my area used to be ahead of the curve and all accepted NFC payments until a couple weeks ago. I used Google Wallet and ISIS there a number of times. I noticed they had all replaced the terminals with iSC350 models that were no longer NFC enabled two weeks ago, though. The new ones support chip+PIN, though.

7-11 is part of the MCX consortium along with CVS, Rite Aid, Best Buy, Walmart, et al. They likely shut them off before Apple Pay went live so that they wouldn't find themselves in the same sort of stew as CVS is right now.

I used it successfully in Jewel/Osco (Chicago area) in the self check out lane.

The card reader didn't have the NFC logo anywhere but I held up my iPhone and worked just fine.

i see our local Jewel in Chicago burbs has all new NFC payment machines at every checkout. wondering two things; does the passbook app "activate/show" in the lower left corner of the locked screen when at or near NFC payment device AND when using Debit Cards do you still have to enter the PIN.

For your first question, just hold the top of the phone near an NFC terminal and your default card with Apple Pay shows up on the screen along with any other cards you have stored, should you want to use a different card. When it comes time to pay the phone will prompt you to use Touch ID to pay.

As for the debit/PIN question, to bypass entering a PIN when using a debit card touch the "credit" option on the terminal or tell the cashier its a credit purchase. I have found at some locations you still need to confirm the purchase total and choose whether you want cashback or not.

^^^ much thanks. i was just at Target, but was rushed to get in and out and not sure how to use it succussfully. so, i skipped it. :) next time!

Has anyone gotten it to work at Quick Check in NJ? They have NFC readers, but I haven't been able to get them to respond at the self checkout terminals. I like to stop there for coffee on the way to work in the morning, but I don't like carrying my wallet in my dress clothes, this could make life simpler!

Same problem here. Jackson, NJ

Used it at Wegmans supermarket yesterday in the self-checkout line. I had tried it at another supermarket earlier in the week, but I guess they didn't have NFC.

BJ's wholesale club and Rite Aid.....even after they supposed
Stopped accepting applepay.

I have only used it at Walgreens. Worked great. Need NFC in more places that I go to. Wish Publix and Walmart would jump on board and ditch that MCX deal but I know that won't happen.

I used apple pay at Meijers, (large grocery and dept store in the midwest) worked perfect.

..Which is interesting since they are an MCX member. You might find it disabled in the future a'la CVS.

The curious thing is that they're also on the Apple Pay site as a launch store. I've used it a few times there, but am curious what happens when MCX starts cracking down on exclusivity. On the other hand, I wonder if Meijer is sort of flying under the radar and seeing how many people use Apple Pay before choosing a side (although having your logo on Apple's site probably is the opposite of "flying under the radar").

They've had NFC readers for a long time and even at the pumps in all their gas stations - surely the investment for that hardware was much more than the MCX membership "fee" of $500k.

Yeah, that *is* a weird one. Perhaps they hopped on board early and their exclusivity with MCX has ended, or they looked at their options and gave MCX the middle finger and will take the heat. Interesting.

Just tried to use it at UPS Store, no dice. POS system recognized iPhone and began to initiate payment, however it couldn't go through. Passbook shows there being a recent transaction however it isn't entirely true.

I tried ApplePay for the first time today in the Columbus, OH area. First I tried at a Meijer store and it didn't work for whatever reason. Later on I tried it at a Whole Food$ and it worked fine.

New York City

To add to the mix:

I have now successfully used Apple Pay in an NYC yellow cab (MTA). The first time didn't work for me because of a proximity issue w/ the reader. I gave up quickly because I was holding up traffic (I hate car horns). Second time worked like a charm, however.

I've also now successfully used it at Gristedes, which for those not in the know, it's a local grocery chain that I believe rivals Apple on profit margins. Using Apple Pay help take out some of the pricing sting.

Duane Reade has been flawless every time for me, along with Whole Foods.

New York City

I've used it at Duane Reade, Walgreens, Subway, McDonalds, Taxi Cab. I haven't been to whole foods yet.

Walgreens worked fine, the second time. The first time was my own unfamiliarity with the process, and I was unwilling to hold up the line while screwing about. Walgreens is right across the street, so it's handy for the quick late-night cough drop hunt.

McDonalds worked fine. I did confirm that I really no longer have a taste for McDonalds' food.

Home Depot failed twice last week with a 'card declined' message on the terminal. Tried again today, went through without a problem.

I have tried other retailers (who are the "partner" Apple Pay retailers), and it's worked well. Today I tried Home Depot and it seems there might be some kind of cashier based block or something of that sort.

Reason being is that I tried tapping and scanning the phone on the swipe machine, the Apple Pay screen came up. Immediately the cashier tells me that "tap and pay" doesn't work at Home Depot. For some reason my transaction came up as "declined" (even though I knew my Citi card wasn't having any issues).

As soon as that happens the cashier tells me "see I told you it doesn't work" tapping her screen to initiate the payment again. As soon as she was saying that I had changed my card to AMEX on the Apple Pay tapped again, and initiated the transaction again. Somehow it went through this time.

The lady got shocked and says "I wonder if I did something to allow it to happen on my end!?!". Not sure what it was but it seems at Home Depot, if you check out with a cashier, they have to do something on their end.
