I've used it a couple of times in NYC taxis (both yellow city cabs and the green outer borough cabs). :D

I just tried in an NYC yellow cab and it kept saying to "move closer"...moved it all around to no avail. Is there a key spot to hold the iPhone?

Just checked out at HOME DEPOT !!! The clerk said "What magic did you just do?"

Haha, that's awesome! I used it at McD's and it worked great. Read that people were using it at Home Depot so I decided to try it there. I went to the self checkout and chose the Debit/Credit option, put my phone to the reader, heard a beep and my phone said "Done" but then the screen said "payment declined, choose another form of payment". Ended up swiping the same card I just tried to use on my phone and it worked. Seems that some stores have it turned off for some reason..

I used it successfully in Jewel/Osco (Chicago area) in the self check out lane.

The card reader didn't have the NFC logo anywhere but I held up my iPhone and worked just fine.

i have been using apple pay a lot over the last few days and i have also made the mistake of either pressing too hard and unlocking the phone or shutting it back off before i could get apple pay to work.

if that happens again just quickly unlock the phone(if its not already) and open passbook it will quickly bring back apple pay. or if you do get in the habit of pressing too hard for too long and bring up siri just ask her to "open passbook" lol

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions to touch gently so Siri does not activate. Used it at Panera today for lunch. Gal was very excited as it was her first Apple pay sale. Went through easily though it did say I needed to get closer to the keypad. Gal said I was lucky I didn't have the 6 as its not working on iPhone 6. ??? That clearly is not the case. She was told Panera was working on a fix. I suspect they are trying to fix something that is not broke. Not sure what she thought it was working on if not the iPhone 6 or +.

is 7-Eleven late to the game? went to a couple 7-11 in downtown SF and they don't have it.

also i think stores should really do a better job of educating their cashier. Went to subway, the cashier kept the NFC terminal waaayyy behind their register. Since it has a built in card reader. i guess they assume it's only for their use. granted there's a separate key pad for customer to enter pin.
I didn't see it, so i used my card. then saw them pull out the terminal to slide my card.

I've been using the MasterCard nearby app that another poster wrote about to see what's around me. It's been working great so far!

I used it at a Nike Factory Outlet store today. The cashier was all googly eyes as he clamored "this guy is really paying with his phone, this is the future". I smiled but I slowly went to the # face as I had to still enter my pin on the keypad. Meh, the cashier was still talking about it after I was walking away. His excitement made me feel badass.

It worked for me in a cab. I just kind of wave it around or gently tap the thing with the sideways wifi. But I assume the NFC transmitter is towards the top half of the phone?

I've been able to use it with Salt Lake City's transit system. They have NFC readers set up for all trains and buses.

Well, I should say, it didn't work one time. In fact, it's something that's happened to me once on a bus and then once at a local grocery store that accepts NFC payments. Apple Pay lights up on my screen, asks me to use touch ID, I do, and it says it's done, but the NFC machine doesn't beep or otherwise acknowledge it. Anyone else have that issue? Otherwise, it's pure Apple: does something that doesn't seem all that necessary, but once you use it, you don't want to go back!

Tried :apple: Pay at Circle-K this morning. Card was declined twice. Pull card out and put through CC reader and same card worked no problem. Circle-K must not be accepting Apple Pay yet.

I can confirm that I was successful with my local Circle K this morning, here in Phoenix, AZ. He did have to push a separate button to turn the touch to pay terminal on though.

I will add that I tried a different Circle K a couple hours later and they didn't have their NFC terminal working.

Can't say exactly why it didn't work for you?

Just got back from central America.

First visit to Panera for lunch and WholeFoods for groceries.

So incredibly slick and awesome!

Foodtown NJ

I used it today at a Foodtown in NJ. It went through but I still had to sign at the terminal. The recipet did not have the last 4 numbers of my credit card on it. :D

Finally had a chance to use ApplePay at Walgreens and it was flawless. My wife also tried and experienced the same. I'm glad walgreens is closer than cvs because they get all of our drug store business.

Same here. Detroit-area Walgreens. One purchase was using the default card and the second one, two days later, I changed cards before confirming with my fingerprint. Both were so fast, the cashier was a little confused because they didn't have to do anything. Finally, he/she reached for and handed me the receipt.

I love it. I actually forgot my wallet the second time so there was no alternative payment method.

And CVS can go hump themselves. I'm never going there for anything (I'm equi-distant from both).

McDonalds, Walgreens, Home Depot.

Walgreens worked fine, the second time. The first time was my own unfamiliarity with the process, and I was unwilling to hold up the line while screwing about. Walgreens is right across the street, so it's handy for the quick late-night cough drop hunt.

McDonalds worked fine. I did confirm that I really no longer have a taste for McDonalds' food.

Home Depot failed twice last week with a 'card declined' message on the terminal. Tried again today, went through without a problem.

This weekend, I tried it out at The Container Store, McDonald's, and Walgreens. All went off without a hitch. My cashier at The Container Store thought it was so cool...and she was got mad at herself for not paying attention as I did it, because she was bagging my items. :D

Has anyone gotten it to work at Quick Check in NJ? They have NFC readers, but I haven't been able to get them to respond at the self checkout terminals. I like to stop there for coffee on the way to work in the morning, but I don't like carrying my wallet in my dress clothes, this could make life simpler!

In a NYC taxi I was going to pay with my normal credit card until I saw my iPhone light up when I held it near the card reader. I decided to give it a shot even though there has been no mention of NYC cabs accepting or declining Apple Pay. I went through the whole process and it appeared that everything had worked just great.... until the taxi driver came running after me a few seconds after I got out of the car. No luck with Apple Pay and cabs yet

I tried to use it at Walgreen's this morning. It almost worked... the clerk had never had someone try it so was happy for me to try. First, the :apple:Pay screen on my phone didn't show up until I actually tapped the thing. I didn't think that was necessary (I dunno, just feels dumb). The phone then read my fingerprint and the terminal beeped in response, but no transaction went through, and no error message either.

I tried it again, same thing. Finally I just paid with my card because a line was forming and I felt bad. I have a sneaking suspicion the clerk may have done something wrong, but I dunno. It was just odd that it seemed to work from the phone's standpoint but it definitely didn't.

Edit: The PIN pad even kept flashing the :apple:Pay logo and the Google Wallet logo, so it certainly seemed like they knew it should work...

Strangely enough the 7-11 stores in my area used to be ahead of the curve and all accepted NFC payments until a couple weeks ago. I used Google Wallet and ISIS there a number of times. I noticed they had all replaced the terminals with iSC350 models that were no longer NFC enabled two weeks ago, though. The new ones support chip+PIN, though.
