I'd like to order from Apple.com but I'm not sure I can. I have two lines on an AT&T plan and I want to switch to verizon. Can I sign up for new service and order 2 phones from apple.com or do I have to do that on verizon's website ?

when you go to order a phone it ask you what carrier...you most likely would just have to do two separate orders

buying at the carrier. LAst time I went to buy an iPad 2 at the apple store last year, waited over 3 hours for the sales associate to come out and tell the majority of the people in line that they've run out. I think like.. 10% of the people in line got the product. I love apple products but I really don't care for how they treat customers. They could have at least come out and tell us they don't have enough for all of us so we didn't have to wait in line. I know they don't know how much products they receive until they open it blah blah blah but that in itself is pretty ridiculous imo.

On the other hand, I've never had to wait at the verizon store for my white iphone 4, possibly because I went a little after the phone came out so who knows... maybe it'll be the same.

yah, I think when you buy makes all the difference in the world. I'm moe curious about people's pre-ordering experiences and how Apple & the wireless carriers stack up in that regard.

This. This will be my 1st iPhone on launch day. How does online preorder work? Do they only take x #?

They keep taking preorders no matter what. You just have to get yours in early enough so yours is included in the first batch of shipments on launch day. If you wait too long, your order may slip to a later date.

Went to apple shop for ipad2, queued best part of 6 hours.

iPhone4s went to carrier (vodafone) day after release and picked the one I wanted up in about 5 minutes.

I will be going to my carrier this time round. Managed to get 20% of monthly bill because of who I work for. Last time round got a 12 month contract;

12 x ( £50 - 20%) + £130 [upfront] = £619.60

The device itself was/still is £499 so that's £10.05 a month for 1"200 minutes, unlimited texts, 750MB mobile internet and 2GB BT Openzone Wi-Fi"

In the past I've always bought all my phones at the Verizon store. I thought I would do the same in January when I upgrade my iPhone so I don't run into any problems keeping my unlimited data. But now since you lose unlimited data unless you buy an unsubsidized phone, I think I'll just buy it at the Apple store and that way I can add AppleCare+ which is much better than the insurance Verizon offers.

even if you do end up buying it at verizon, you have 30 days to take it into the apple store for inspection so you can add applecare+

I voted applestore.com. However if that doesn't work fast enough for me, might switch it up to the apple store app. Haven't tried that one yet. ;)

I will Preorder from Apple Store.com Don't have any plans to wait in a long line all day.

^^^

This is a situation that I really hate. I'm planning on coming home to the States in the near future. The way carriers "Lock" your phones back home really does suck.

Here in the UK I buy the phone, sim free and chooses the carrier I want. If I don't like the service, or the coverage isn't up to scratch, I just take out the sim, and pop in another one.

The idea of having to choose my carrier on purchase day, and being stuck with them is not something that appeals to me one bit. It's also apparent from posts here that where you live defines which carrier is best...I guess I will just have to suck it up when I get back.

Yup the United States suck. I feel you.
