Last year I tried to purchase my 4S from Apple, but their web site did not reflect the work-related discount we get on our family plan. I ended up purchasing from AT&T and everything was fine. So, I'm going to buy from AT&T.

I bought the 4S at Target.
Before it was even released I put my name down with the in-store cell phone rep.
On the day that pre-orders opened I was called at home and invited down to the store to place my order. There was no line.
On release day I was again called at home and told that my phone was at the store waiting for me. Again no line and I saved 5% by using my Target card.
Easiest iPhone purchase I ever made.

Interesting. I have apprehensions with ordering from Target, but that would be significant enough savings for me to try.

Wish I could've selected two options.

My 1st choice is the Apple Online Store, but if that fails to go through, I'll be pre-ordering through Verizon's website.

Verizon Store. Why? It's simple: I want to keep my unlimited data and to do that I have to pay full price for the phone, which you cannot do at the Apple Store (for Verizon anyways).

How can I get my hand on new next generation iPhone before most of people? What is the fast way?
Pre-order on apple.com or line up on launch date?
Can anyone who experience this in the past tell me please?

Are there still people who get wowed when someone shows them the new iPhone?

Last year my friend came to me and was trying to show off the 4S and the look on his face was golden when all he got was a big yawn. There is more fish in the sea now.

Welp, as you're in SanFran, I'd say pre-ordering online would be the fastest for you.

Buying (or I suppose pre-ordering) off-contract from the Apple online store.

Goodbye Rogers!

I have 3 AT&T corporate stores within 2 miles of where I live, so that is where I will be.

Same place I did last year, Verizon's online store. No hassle, the website didn't crash, and I got it on launch day. :)

Didn't read through all the posts so sorry if someone has already asked about this, but I actually am not quite sure which place would be best for me. I currently have at&t but am switching over to Verizon as soon as I get my hands on the new phone (assuming I'm not entirely underwhelmed by the keynote). Anybody have any advice? I feel like my local Verizon store is a risky bet if I go there on September 21st.

I used to do the lines in front of the Apple Store early in the morning but since the New iPad, I have started to order via the website since you get the product on the same day & you don't have to deal with the crowd. However, waiting in line for an Apple Store is still an experience any Apple fanboy should live once in their life :D

AppleStore.com for the guarantee and the slight chance that it would be delivered a day early or whatever.

Could totally see myself doing this, but unfortunately I have things to do and places to be that day.:(

Yeah I'm thinkin this is probably what I'll end up going for. Switching over to Verizon from to At&t and ordering off the applestore won't be a problem I'm assuming?

You can do this either thru Verizon (I recommend simply pre-ordering thru verizonwireless.com) or thru Apple (either pre-ordering via their website or their app). If you do it through Apple, just follow the prompts and the porting process, from AT&T to VZW, will begin.

My Orange contract doesn't end until December and I'm wanting to move to 02 so I'll be getting mine from an 02 store then. My employers have an agreement with 02 that all their employees are entitled to 30% off with them so I have to go in store to get one because I can't do that online (Well I can but it would probably just complicate things when they question my discount entitlement) and also because I don't want to be waiting a day or two for my phone to arrive.

I want to buy it at the Apple store unlocked. Does Apple keep separate stock locked to each provider and separate unlocked iPhones or are all phones unlocked originally and then locked to a provider if you buy it subsidized?

If they're all from the same stock, I guess I won't have much luck and they'll sell out quickly but if they have a special lot of unlocked phones, not a lot of people in Canada buy unlocked so I might have a better chance with a walkup into an Apple Store.

I'm sorry you can't hear the polar express bell any more.

Verizon Wireless. Going to line up around 530, maybe 6 at a location not many people decide to go to. It shouldn't be freezing outside so I'll have breakfast and all with me, and hopefully have someone nice enough to hold my spot in line while I take piss breaks.

Haven't encountered many people saying they'll line up at a carrier. Usually those brave enough for the line experience are those seeking it at Apple stores.
