Nooooo and I was hoping to trade mine in for the white one!

agree almost 100% but in regards to the .55% that called to complain, the number can be misleading. As the issues with the antenna became hot news items, alot of people saw no point in calling and getting nowhere, but to wait it out for a fix. Same goes for people that read tech blogs like engadget

Thanks. I've read that here before, and I'm not buying it for the most part.

I do understand that the customer feedback is somewhat selective to people frequenting narrow-interest sites and forums. So let's discount those.

In general, for as long as companies have had to deal with customer feedback, that is almost never how consumers react to a product quality issue. One gets the genuine feedback from people with demonstrable issues with your product, and in addition you get other people chiming in because they "may" be affected by the issue, and want to get in on the rebate-exchange-refund etc. Negatively-motivated or concerned people are much more likely to write in, post, blog or otherwise make their feelings known than satisfied people (this is well understood in the business and political worlds). So, if anything, the number might be an overrepresentation. Very real for those who have it, of course, but not very much as a percentage of the whole.

Aside from that, I have seen no evidence that there is some big backlog of dissatisfied iPhone 4 owners who really have a problem with the antenna but are just biding their time. I find it very difficult to accept that a "harmed" consumer (as their class action lawyers are sure to claim they are) would not make a simple 800 phone call to obtain a very obvious and immediate benefit--quite the opposite of going nowhere. AFAIK there is no long vetting process for your claim.

Other than extending contract eligibility, is there any other downside to buying the black now and returning it within 30 days, then repeating the process until the white one is out?

if you were to go through the whole thread, he was called a liar probably at least 50 times. but seriously hes not a liar, none of us know the real reasons behind the delay besides what is said, and you know what chances are its the freaking truth....and to be quite honest, people need to get over not being able to get a white iphone, especially if they already own a black one. Just buy a white case and get over it

He's at least guilty of over promising and under delivering. A practice that would put you out of business if you were a small business, but a giant corporation can afford to do all too frequently.

It just seems like before they even thought to offer the white one, they would have had the manufacturing process worked out. Something just isn't right here. I can't imagine heads don't roll.

Nope. Not if you don't run out of stores that'll let you return it. After 3 or 4 months of that, they may start remembering you. ;)

Just FYI I just got off the phone with Apple to bitch at them, since my wife has been holding off on purchasing the white, and is concerned if she waits longer then her eligibility cycle will get all screwed up, etc.

The APPLE customer service rep said, "actually, we're not even sure if we'll have them this year." I repeated that back to make sure I heard it right, and she said, "Correct, we may not have them this year, so if your wife wants an iPhone I recommend buying the black."

I don't know if that's a ploy to get us to pop for the black immediately rather than risk losing the sale, but it was disheartening to say the least.

I can assure you that the rep you spoke to does not know for sure when they will be available, and saying that they might not even be available this year was pulled out of thin air. They are the last people told any information like that. Is there a chace for more delays? Absolutely. I said (earlier on in another forum) that July was not even guaranteed. The issues go way beyond just a color issue.

Iphone 5??

Here is my question, the iphone 4 came out less than a month ago and people on here are already talking about the iphone 5??

Do you all not remember when the 3g came out? The same casing/model was used for YEARS.

Jobs will not change the style of the phone, there will be software updates. There will not be an iphone 5 for over 2 years, mark my words!

I can't help but wonder if the REAL reason for the delay is that they are going to quietly fix the antenna problem on the white model while keeping the black model in production (and then maybe swap later on). I just find it hard to believe that painting and engraving technology is so freaking bad as to delay a case in 2010 for months on end.

I LOVE APPLE but you fan boys have to admit that the apple is turning sour, face fact

1 - so the imac issue just mentioned, not good is it
2 - lets make a bumper, you seriously cannot think they did not rush the troubled iphone to market and did not know about the antenna issue, apple have never been into cases etc so why start now, face facts they knew
3 - promised the white phone in the conference then now delay it, you are telling me they did not know then, rubbish and as soon as people face the facts the better rather than burying your i love apple head in the sand

You Apple haters certainly enjoy making it up as you go along when you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.

1) On the iMac issue I was addressing someone else's post that said Apple was being arrogant and dishonest in regards to the iMac. HOW SO? As I said earlier, they did exchanges, they offered cash back (who would do that but Apple), they even gave extra cash back even if someone returned the iMac. Tell Dell to do that, they will tell you to go "F" yourself.

2) Apple has never been into cases? Guess you missed the first case that Apple recommended for the iPad. Correct me if I'm wrong, Apple made that case.

3) Your head is either in the sand or maybe you just want to pick a fight. The company is already in a debacle about the iPhone reception issues. Their customers (the noisy ones here especially) are pissed cuz Apple delivered a phone not fully "tested", yes they keep pushing back the shipping of the white iPhone, but they are trying to address issues before they ship it? Isn't that what these whiney MR members want, or do they want defective white iPhones as well so they can have more reasons to bitch, moan and cry a friggin' river over.

Hmmmm paint on glass sounds like a terrible idea to me. That paint is going to scratch off.

iphone 5, iphone 4.5, whatever.

There will be another one next summer or (I'm thinking, fall). They put out some sort of new phone every year. They've been doing it since gen 1.

Sooo... it does stand to reason that the next iteration (whatever you want to call it) will have some of the kinks sorted out, since (as you pointed out), they are not likely to be keen on changing the casing of the thing.

Then again, if the antennagate stuff doesn't simmer down, they may do a full redesign.

That (unless they've already got some ideas brewing) might take awhile. Still, they will put out another phone, even if it turns out just to be the white one.

I would think White iP4 is the SAME manufacturing process as Black iP4. Why is white paint that much harder to use over black?????

Shens.

Apple has been making white products for years.

Apple is playing games.

Paint on glass is different than white plastic.

There are quite a few eloquent explanations floating around the forum.

was waiting for white. all black get's hot so easily out in the sun down here,

this sucks.

Considering that the iPhone 4 is made of metal & glass, I don't think that the color is going to make that big of a difference.

Glass and plastic may be different, but BLACK paint is NO DIFFERENT than WHITE paint other than color. If they can get the black paint to go on without issue, they can do it for white paint. Give me a break.

Check with them BP boys in the Gulf, seems they have their white iPhone 4. Here's proof!!!

Well,
A. Black is more forgiving of cracks, scratches, and discoloration.
B. The black is a chemical deposition process, not paint.
