White iPhone 4 DELAYED. Officially

This probably explains the report that Apple was prepping their stores for a large influx of customers this weekend: the white-iphone-holdouts who will say "screw it" and not bother waiting for white anymore, and just go ahead and buy a black one...
 
Not sure why anyone would wait for the white one now. Like someone else said - by the time you get it, iPhone 5 will be right around the corner.

Side note - through a fortunate series of atypical events, I was able to order a second iPhone 4 at the subsidized price. It ships 8/12 & will probably end up on CL or eBay. :)

This was a little tiny press release that will get little air time. Had it been incorporated into last weeks press conference it would have been more public since the entire world was watching that press conference. While I think it was planned and unethical...I can see why they did it.

Crap... It seems like my 3G is getting slower and slower too. We don't even have an estimate of what "later this year" means. Christmas? October? Whatever the case (no pun), it's pretty RIDICULOUS that the man said just last week that white iPhones ship by month's end, only to change that statement right after. Where's the consistency?

But how did they not know this problem last week? They said they would be shipping in July, so I would have assumed they were manufacturing them and had them ready to ship. I guess I was wrong.

You keep using words like "They" and "Surely". First of all, there is no "They". The people that knew, were most likely the people who are manufacturing the phone, Foxconn. Or maybe some apple engineer somewhere. Also, "Surely", isn't proof of anything...

Yes - excellent observation. I think they have known about this for a while and have been gearing up for the news to hit that the white one is DOA...I mean delayed.

Of course. And I'm glad they're fixing the antenna. The black was only 99% perfect but this time the white iPhone will be 100% perfect :)

I personally think that the antenna design was perfect in its approach. Having it all around the iPhone makes sense and provides the greatest reception. They just need to move that X spot to the top of the phone where no one can touch it.

Seriously people, read the comments some have written, it's not the end of the world.

A lot of spoiled little rich kids didn't get their white iphones? Boo hoo let the drama begin.....

I seriously doubt any new design will come with the white one. Unless they change the model name - any "improvement" or physical fix to the iP4 would necessitate a recall on the millions of black ones. Apple isn't going to go down that path.

I'm sure they are already working on an antenna fix for the iPhone5 - but this is just part of the SNAFU of the iP4.
 
Black outsells the white anyway. To me it's a girlie color

Haha. And they announce it at the 29-30 day mark since the iPhone 4 release. So people who planned to swap it for white can't return it because it's been 30 days

Just get the black and put a case on it

I agree. Sure it is annoying, but let's face it. Complaining never solved anything, solutions do. The immediate solution is to just say, screw it, i'm getting a black one. Or get another phone? But that would seem like a silly thing to do all because you can't get it in the color you want... or maybe that's just me :D
