So it has taken almost 4 months to match a white button to white class? I'm not buying that. I think Apple has their own hidden reasons for not releasing the iPhone 4 in white yet. Whether it is to encourage extra sales for those who already have a black one or to simply have something new to announce, the fact that they still advertise it on their site and fail to mention it is weird.

I say It shouldn't be this difficult to color match the parts.

And your expertise comes from?

Having been involved with lots of color matching, please note:

They are trying/matching two different types of material.
One is plastic and even within different plastic types there are color variations and new pigments need to be developed.

Different pigments reflect light differently, hence adjustments are needed.

Also, don't they say : Once you try black, you don't go back:)

So, the glass will be coated with a paint of some kind (I assume) whereas the plastic for the home button is molded , with white pigments mixed into it.
(usually titanium)

When one matches colors there is a point at which the person making the decision gets tired and wants to be done and approves things as "close enough"

Compliments to Apple for NOT doing this.

It shows dedication to perfection!

Wouldn't buy a white anything it gets dirty and scratched from daily use,
but to each her/his own.

Also, don't they say:

Once you try black, you don't go back:)

Gimme a roll of tape, can of Krylon and five minutes and I'll give you a white iPhone4. With matching home button. Geez.

Yeah, white is a REALLY hard color to match, after all.

Just imagine if they wanted to introduce a variety of color options. I guess that would take more technology than we have on Earth. It's easier to get to the moon, I suppose. Hey wait, doesn't Dell offer custom designs and colors to order on their web site for a small charge?

I expect more people will be jumping out windows over in China soon....

Well, they are real men - just walk a little differently.

Yes. They walk, confident in who they are, not giving a care about how someone who ISN'T comfortable in who they are perceives them.

Something some people in this thread need to learn the lesson and take the hint from.

And this coming from a straight man with a newborn baby son, posting this from his White iPhone 3G.

BL.

Yet it is in the hands of many people. That is beyond vaporware. Also, I'd say that the tablets to be released against the iPad are more vaporware than anything else.

Its not in the hands of consumers is it - only pre-production models. Its been 6 months and still no iPhone 4..

If the white iPhone 4 was a non Apple product then people on these forums would class this as 'vapourware'.

Honest question, did apple allow people to order white iphones already?

Not only did they take orders, but the customers were notified that they should wait for a future release.

It is also true that has since been rescinded, but to your question. Yes.

Hence my suggestion to Apple: RUN OF PRESS.

Rocketman

If only they picked red or purple or blue . . .

I remember telling my lady friend that I wouldn't get an iPhone 4 until the white came out. Glad I'm impatient because i'd still be waiting - love my 4.

For all we know, there may be a second white production line sitting idle waiting for the white model.

If that were the case, then it would mean Foxconn (or whichever company) is not managing its resources very well. It would not mean Apple is loosing sales due to the unavailability white iPhone.

Those that think white is easy to match or that Apple isn't having any trouble and it must be another reason know NOTHING about the printing industry.

Let me enlighten you since I worked in publishing for about 7 years. White is the hardest color in the spectrum to match. Fact - not opinion. And with different materials - it's downright mind boggling difficult. If you want to lay blame or fault - blame the actual design team/decision to make an ALL white phone vs having some parts white and others something else.

I believe 100 percent they've had difficulties.

Yeah but not real men. :)

if you have to say you have a white iPhone and your straight kinda defeats the whole " Yes. They walk, confident in who they are, not giving a care about how someone who ISN'T comfortable in who they are perceives them."

Men with white iPhones are always going to be suspect. :p

And I seriously doubt that many people are holding off their purchase because of the white iPhone 4 (don't hold me to that though ;) ).

I'd be one of those people. There some to be quite a few on these forums I've seen whenever White iP4 news comes up.

Nevertheless, good to hear some sort of news on this. I think it's probably close to a release since some people have been able to get their hands on legitimate ones from Apple. There's a guy on YouTube from Canada who seems to have gotten one, too. I doubt Apple would have a high enough number of White iP4s around that employees could be selling them off to friends if they were imperfect.

Then again, all the black ones were released imperfect XD

This is mad silly. It's always the square nerds who make claims like this about other confident dudes who get crazy tail while wearing pink shirts or having white phones. It's a color, man. We're not 6 any more when mommy painted our room blue.

After all the discoloring problems I've personally experienced, I'll never buy another white Apple product.

1) White MacBook turned yellow

2) White top of Mac Mini turned yellow

3) The translucent white silicon tips of a pair of Apple in-ear earphones turned yellow (and no, this wasn't from repeated exposure to earwax — it happened to the "replacement" tips that I never used.)

One thing I love about Apple products is how, with proper care, they continue to look great years after they are purchased. Except for the white ones...

Silly, nerd, square and mommy. Suspect. ;)

Stay away from white. It gets dirty.

The white macbooks need to go away too.

I don't have experience with the white macbooks, but I will say that my white iPhone 3GS has not been discolored at all in the year and a half it has been used. The only issue I have is with the multitude of cracks that formed without it being dropped.

I have a white macbook. Dont have any problems with the color. Clean your dirty hands.

I don't have an issue with Apple getting it right, I do have an issue with them not saying anything.

I agree; Apple is not treating me fairly by unnecessarily keeping me in the dark about a producer that I was considering. This poor communication may work for people using their smart phones for entertainment, but untimely release of critical information about the availability and dependability of a business communication tool (iPhone 4) will undermine purchases made by professionals.
