Dude, you just made me have a good laugh after reading that.

you are so right. it's JUST a phone after all.. I mean, i would like one on launch day too, since i haven't had one for a few months since mine was stolen. but it will hardly be the end of the world if i don't get it on thursday. to bitch and moan and complain. cmon!

if people spent as much time on philanthropy or caring for another person, our world would be in a better place.

btw. . . i hope the suicides or even suicidal thoughts on those chinese workers that are obviously in REAL agony, constructing these phones, are being addressed by the manufacturer, etc.

how about we think about them for a moment when we think we're gonna lose it....over a our phone orders

A lot of you automatically assume anyone ordering an iphone 4 on launch day is a spoiled little pathetic person that must have anything and everything right away.

There are some of us whole depends on it for our livelihood, that little piece of plastic puts food on my kids plates everyday.

We weren't counting on iphone 4 in our initial release, when we planned our pr it didn't exist. launching without 4 will significantly affect our market potential and the investors won't be happy. Delaying launching our app this late in the game could easily cost us 100,000 in pr.

Our iphones say prepared for shipment, lets hope they stay that way.

Those companies are smart enough to offer customers choices in the form of more than just a color.

True true. However, how many get regular software upgrades? You buy into other phone eco systems and, generally speaking, that is the phone you have for your two year contract. Unless you want to hack your OS to install the latest Android release, no serious updates for you. Apple's closed platform allows them to upgrade two year old phones with the latest bells and whistles (to the extent that older hardware has the ommph to use them).

To each his own, horses for courses and all of that.

Can we get official confirmation that if your order is prepared for shipment, it won't be cancelled? I thought I read earlier in this thread that that actually happened to someone.

The person you replied to didn't say anything about money, I think you read that into it. it's more a matter of the excessive angst over a phone which many of these people will be trying to get rid of a year from now.

I know, which is what address in the 2nd part of the comment. But it doesn't matter if people want to get rid of their iPhone 4s when the iPhone 5 comes out. If I make a decision to buy something, fulfill my part of the agreement and then the other side screws up, it's not that big of a deal. It's just a phone, right?

It's more than that. It's about Apple and AT&T not taking responsibility for their mistakes. They can just go canceling orders without explanation or facing any consequences and it's just not fair. The emails don't even go as far as to put the names of the purchaser in them. Apple's consumers are treated with so little respect sometimes that it's disgusting. Yeah, we can take our business elsewhere but in reality few will actually go that far. My point is that we shouldn't have to. Give the people who got legitimately screwed some iTunes gift cards or something, I don't know. Just a little bit of an apology or acceptance of some responsibility would go a long way in some people's minds.

I recently just had a conversation with Apple in the apple chat:

Apple: Hi, my name is Channing M. Welcome to Apple!
Good evening.
Me: hi there. i hear many of peoples iphone orders are being canceled. Is there a reason for this, and to make sure it doesn't happen to my pre order?
How are you?
Apple: I have not heard of any pre orders being just randomly canceled, we will cancel an order if when we try to charge the card it gets declined.

Mind you this is probably some mindless apple gopher employee who knows nothing of the situation, but who knows.

Did any of the people who got theirs canceled get their credit cards declined? or did you order multiple iphones on one line?

I was scared when I heard the news. But my iphone order is still prepared for shipment.

Now I don't think its possible it's because there were too many. I ordered mine at 10:30 PM eastern time on apple thats set for delivery on june 24. There are others who ordered hours before mine that got canceled.

this sucks for me (waiting on white) and customers that just wanted one iphone. but I gotta say its bittersweet to see all the people that had ordered 2 and 3 iphones to resell thinking it was some "blip" in the system getting their orders cancelled is FANTASTIC :p

One reason why orders may be being cancled is because the ones ordering them didn't read all the agreement. When I preordered mine from AT&T it said that they were allowing 1 iphone4 per person/address. It basicaly screws anyone on their family plan that wanted everyone to have one. If you ordered multiple phones they could be canceled for this reason. I don't know though if this message was alps displayed on the apple store.

People keep saying this, but my memory was that existing customers could get up to 2 phones if they were upgrading 2 lines. Maybe not a huge difference, that's just what I remember.

Once it's prepared for shipment, it is out of Apple's hands. The order cannot be adjusted.

Heh, if you say so. I have no idea. You work on the inside?

AT&T is not going to run their systems to "re-verify" account standing.

Quite honestly, at this point I think that they can do whatever they want. It's not like this has gone according the plan. Heck, based on what people say above my phones (mine and my wife's) might get cancelled due to multiple phones to one address. We'll see, the next few days should be a fun ride :D

Purchase three. One line. All three "Prepared for Shipment." Touche.

Edit: **three different addresses, however.

I see what you mean, I was more addressing the overall tone in the thread where people have to have it on Tuesday or there's going to be hell to pay. I don't like the thought of being screwed either, but almost all the time I've had a problem like this, I contact a CSR at the company and the problem gets taken care of calmly without the runaround that I feared. However, this situation isn't going to get addressed on a weekend.

I do not work for Apple. I do know, however, no one at Apple can make adjustments to an order that has already been prepared for shipment. If Apple can't, who would be able to?

You'd think they could do whatever they want, but a company that large with that many subscribers would rather take a hit on extra rebates to a small minority than use the resources to double check for authenticity. Logistically it just doesn't make sense to re-check.

Wirelessly posted (Opera/9.80 (iPhone; Opera Mini/5.0.019802/18.738; U; en) Presto/2.4.15)

That's not the point. Personally, I couldn't care for this iPhone, as there are better things to be worried about, but to some people, that's the way it is. Just because people are caring so much about a phone doesn't mean that they aren't caring about other things. I find the next iPhone to be important because, coming from an iPhone 3G, the iPhone 4 is a big inprovement that I've been looking forward to for a while now.

Still, none of you guys should be caring about what other people find important. It's none of your business. Instead of wasting your time posting, why don't you go tend to your more "important" problems?

Pre-Authorizing Phones

In another thread someone said  and AT&T both ship iPhones pre-authorized for the account rather than going through the old authorization process back 'in the day'. If this is true it it solves most of the mysteries and predicts what's going to happen.

People who ordered multiple iPhones for the same account are going to have at least all but one cancelled, and if its too confusing they might just have all of them cancelled.

Unfortunately some of those that only ordered one might also have not had the system properly validate them and have that one dropped as well.

For checking my AT&T account and reading the other notes my guess is the best way to see if you are going to get a phone is to check your equipment upgrade date by dialing *639# on your current iPhone or go to your AT&T Wireless page online. If you now have an upgraded date in 2011 or further, one of your orders has 'taken'.

As to the white, I had always guessed that it was a 'see through' issue of some kind. I'm actually wondering how long it will be before people will be getting them modded to any color they want - I mean its just glass painted on the inside, right?

My order was canceled tonight. Here's my situation:

1. Was eligible to upgrade (with an $18 fee). Still listed as eligible.
2. Preordered on day one, around 2pm est
3. Credit card connects to my checking account and has more than enough to cover the purchase
4. I only ordered 1 iPhone in black, 32g
5. I received TWO cancellation emails claiming they couldn't authorize my account
6. My AT & T account says I can upgrade my iPhone (yeah, and get it in August instead of Thursday).
7. Called the automated system, entered my order number and it confirmed it had been canceled.

So its not true they are only canceling duplicates and it had nothing to do with eligibility nor credit card billing failure.

My order was cancelled at 11:44 AM EST and I got the email at 7 pm. I called Apple immediately and have been on hold since. I placed one order on the morning of the 15th that went through perfectly on apple's site.

Thanks for nothing Apple and AT&T.

C'mon Michelle. Don't you think you are being a tad bit dramatic here? :p That "little piece of plastic" hasn't put food on anyone's plate yet except for the manufacturers and telcos. If you have been developing for it alone (wierd) you are still in the game. It's not like you had a business built on HD-DVD or Microsoft Bob or something. Yes, many of us are being rather nerdish and panicky about the iP4 release. It's unappologetically fun :D

We weren't counting on iphone 4 in our initial release, when we planned our pr it didn't exist. launching without 4 will significantly affect our market potential.

So launch. What's the problem? Why would there be a delay? Use the emulators, polish up your release candidate and get it in for approval. Unless you are using features exclusive to the iP4, your largest market will be the 3G / 3Gs for the near future. If you are relying on the Retinal display the code update is (reportedly) almost trivial to take advantage of it over a 3Gs phone. If you are using the iP4 platform exclusively (beyond you control release day one at that) you'd have to know your uptake will be long term and not immediate contingent on hardware hitting the streets.

Our iphones say prepared for shipment, lets hope they stay that way.

Admit it. You just want one. You built this business model strawman, but you just want one. It's OK. You're among friends. ;)

Could it be the delay in the white iPhone 4's is caused by all those reporters that were creating blogs about foxconn in China?

That factory they closed could have been the factory that was to assemble the white iPhones.

I was in a Lexington, KY Best Buy this past Thursday (6/17) looking at the Evo 4g when a customer came up to the best buy mobile associate and said he had gotten a call about the white iPhone he ordered. The employee told him that the white iPhones would not be available at launch and to make up for it, everyone who ordered a white iPhone would be bumped ahead of everyone else for a black model. Sucks for the people who wanted a black phone but won't get one because of the people who ordered a white one. Luckily I have one reserved at the Apple store in Louisville and got confirmation from a store employee that my reservation is still in place :)

iPhone supposed to ship by july 2nd

My iphone that is supposed to ship by july 2nd says "prepared for shipping" the lady at apple phone support said it could possibly be here june 24th. What do you guys think?

i'm not sure how valid the point of only letting 1 iphone per address is. after i pre ordered mine on the 15th, i talked to Apple on the 16th to have the billing address changed for all 3 of the orders (which were done individually for 3 different lines) and they had no problem fixing the billing address. but now that i wrote this, they will be cancelled no doubt lol :D

Obviously you are not a developer, or not a very good one.

Or you would know that a lot of advanced applications work fine on the simulator but not on the actual device.
True most of the early revenue is going to come from the 3gs, but having iphone 4 capability from day one is a definite plus.

Todays phone apps that make money, real money aren't just the little to do list ones, they are complexed apps with combination of objective-c and c++.
there is just no way to tell from the simulator the true performance on the real device.

And believe it or not there are developers out there that depend on iphone development for livlihood, services rather than app store revenue is a must quicker bigger payoff. But there are more liabilities.

And no otherwise I would not run down and buy a phone on day one if I didn't have to. This is my last post on this topic because I have more important things to do then argue with someone who has nothing better to do then criticize people he knows nothing about.

I ordered three on one line. All three prepared for shipment. You're wrong.
We'll see when you get all three I guess. Obviously they all can't be pre-authorized for the same line, if you really do get three it will be interesting to see which one actually works.
