Right, and you think Apple wants to throw away a perfectly good phone because someone doesn't have the patience to wait?

Another reason why I think they'll be waiting past the 30 days to release the white version. I'm more than willing to wait longer so that it's past the 30 day exchange. :)

I Can agree with you on the limited front. As when I see the threads of scumbags buying em just to sell em for profit here I get annoyed cause other people that actually want one to use it can't get one. So as far as at launch I understand that. But I see people giving other people crap on this site all the time for simply returning something. Like Apple is going to go out of business
cause they have to take back an item, refurbish it and resell it.

I didn't nor do I currently have a problem with someone returning a product they are not satisfied with. That's the entire point of the 30 day return policy. However, purchasing a limited-availability product with the intention of returning it for a different model when it becomes available, is wrong (in my opinion).

You make a fair point, but I still partially disagree. I wouldn't care either. The fact is, right now, it's a limited-availability product. Not everyone can walk in and purchase theirs right now.

Well if they want a white one, then whats the big deal if you cant get one now? You cant get a white one till after mid July anyways. If you already have a iPhone, whats the hurry is what im saying. And it wont be a limited available product real soon.
I have a 2G that works fine and i might want to get a iP4, maybe not but ill wait till the white is available if i do. I still might switch to an Android. Dont know.
I dont think they should let you bring it back just because you want a white one. Thats THEIR problem for not waiting but if they will let you...then why not?

You should look over some of my previous posts. Essentially, there is a way to exchange, however Apple will make it as difficult and pricey as possible.

In all, you're looking at $60-70, plus the time it takes for AT&T to reinstate your upgrade (time you won't have an iPhone 4). So why not just wait the few extra weeks?

If it were up to me, I wouldn't let it happen at all. I think the impulse buyer must deal with the item they bought. Just because they don't have the patience to wait for the item they really wanted, doesn't mean Apple should pay for it.

I agree with you

You can think of the people returning their phone just to get a different color as the same as the people selling iPhones. They take away phones from people who legitimately want one, not to sell, and not to bide time until the color they want comes out.

Thats what the restocking fee is for. if Apple didnt want too they just wouldn't allow it period.

Incorrect, the restocking fee is used when you exchange for a completely different device. For example, my sister thought she would be happy with a candy bar style phone. She was not, so we exchanged it for a flip style phone. We paid the restocking fee, but she got the phone that best functioned for her. The restocking fee was not meant for "color exchanges".

That's my point. I hope Apple isn't going to allow it. Employees were quoted saying you will not be able to exchange. I hope Apple can find a way to block people from exchanging, and if not, put in as many obstacles as possible.

Or... another consumer, as ultimately someone will end up with a refurbed i4, undoubtedbly those that are getting it via an upgrade.
I'd be pi$$ed if I knew I was given a refurb as "new". Yes it might look and work like new, but it aint.

You're right, it is their problem. That has nothing to do with whether it's wrong or not, which is all I am saying. I think it's wrong. What if that person exchanges his black one for a white one and I won't be able to get a white one because all of the people exchanging for a different color, but I waited patiently for it? It's selfish.

I agree with you

Wait, what? Aren't I saying the same thing as beamer8912?

I'd be PO'd too if I got a refurbed iPhone sold to me as new. But I don't know of any situation where that would occur.

There is no restocking fee on returns within 30 days. New return policy.

Only if you bought from Apple. Otherwise you're SOL. Also, the fee is waived if you're returning because of the Antenna issue. They're not going to let you return your phone because you're fed up with the antenna, and then turn around and buy another one.

Hey, as long as I get my white one on launch day I'll be happy.

Trust me they can't stop you from doing that. What are they going to do, disbar you from ever buying another iPhone? I don't think so. You could return it and wait a week or two and order one online. Or buy from another retailer or AT&T.

which brings me back to what I said. Walk in Apple store, return black phone, walk out. Walk into ATT, buy white iphone, walk out.

probably not what I will do since I am happy with the look of the black phone I have, but it is both possible and under the ethics of the current return policy.

Again, whose to say your upgrade will be waiting for you 20 minutes after canceling your contract. Could take a while for AT&T to refresh your account.

Secondly, I just remembered....when you cancel a contract with AT&T you have to wait a certain period of time (30-90 days) before you can sign another one. That's how they stopped people from canceling their contract and resigning up just to get the subsidized price (before the $325 ETF) with the 3G and 3GS.

So yes you'll eventually be able to do it. You'll just have to wait 30 days (the same amount of time the rest of us had to wait), before you can get it. Waste of time buying that black one, huh?

I dunno how it works but I do know for a fact people have posted on here that they canceled their orders or have returned their iPhone and it only took 72 hours for their eligibility to buy at 2 year price to return to their account.

I remember reading those some where. Not sure if they ever signed another contract right after though. I have a feeling AT&T have a plug for something like this though.

NOW IT MAKES SENSE. Your distressed over the delay. Gotcha.

For the last time Junior, I am happy with the phone I have. Not a waste at all since I will be keeping the phone I have.

Resentment is like drinking poison and hoping the other guy dies.

Relax, retire, enjoy your family. Its just a phone. It's not worth it.

PS: Canceling a contract and following return policy don't seem like the same thing

Yea I just don't think they can block you from buying another phone. I mean every phone carrier let's you return a phone if you don't like it, usually with a restock fee. Then they restore eligibility. I can't see att going way out of their way to keep people from buying a second iPhone.

I agree. The reason I think the apple stores sounded off on launch day about "not being here if you want a white phone" was to tell people they couldn't just swap it, and leading people to forget the return and repurchase ability.

ATT wants people in there stores. Especially people who had to return at Apple and go to ATT to purchase.

as far as the restock fee.. even if they did make you pay, people are paying over a grand for unreleased white phones on ebay. $70 wouldnt stray them.

So much wishful thinking in here. I can't think of any real plugs; this will happen. Enjoy whatever you have, will have, or will have to wait to get because of others. All I hope is that everyone gets what they want even if thats a black to white exchange.

Sheesh. Reading some of the I hope they dont comments is halarious.

AT&T has 30 day return policy as well, best buy too. The second part I'm not even going to comment.

Chill man, why so passionate about this whole thing...

I agree. I wish for all to get the device and happiness they want. I hope no one believes that the device will make them happy.

I have to shake my head at someone wishing malice on another. Even if that malice is disguised as a self righteous moralistic matter.

What's the big attraction to white? Wouldn't it show dirt easier?

Just curious I guess.

What's the big attraction to white?

1) It's different. The black looks like every other Android, Blackberry, etc.
2) It's classic Apple. Before aluminum, Apple products were white.
3) My 3GS never showed dirt.
4) My 3GS never "yellowed" on me.

My MAIN reason for wanting white is #2, but the other 3 are important as well.

I understand the classic Apple opinion, however anyone who thinks the iPhone looks like a Blackberry or Droid needs Lasik surgery.

The problem I have saw with the white i4 is the pictures of it in a case, and the visible lies about the ear speaker.
