Perhaps not this generation, but hopefully the next will. They are brilliant little cars. I’m still temper by the Alpine version of the Renault 5. I don’t need it, but I want it. Saying that the id Polo in a GTI or I think they use the GTX denomination would be awesome.
yup, the original R5 Alpine was awesome, when the Golf GTI came out ... and you have the roads for those cars, here it mostly 20+ miles straight with maybe some hills ;). Partially kidding, there are some more interesting roads here too.

Poor quality picture, but this was in 1979 on the Nurburgring Nordschleife ...

Of the new Renault small EVs I like the R4 e-tech more than the R5 simply because the 4 has bit more space inside it.

You can at least fit 4 real people inside it.

I saw the new iX3 launch - I dislike how it looks (1960s BMW grill) but the platform looks like it is a good one.

Now to see what price point it comes in at. It has 800km range, but the battery is also nearly 109kwh which is large. The maximum charging is 400kW DC (if you can find a charger that does that).

In the US, more and more new charging facilities can charge at that and higher levels so not as rare as they once were. And installations are continuing at a decent pace.

ooh I quite like this.

Agreed, love it.

Saw a Polestar 4 this morning, that also looks nice. The same delivery truck also had two Polestar 3s on it.

Merc rolled out the GLC EQ yesterday as well. It is interesting but technically the BMW iX3 appears to have the better electrical platform.

But the Mercedes easily the superior interior. The retro grill I’m less convinced about. Leave the tall Merc grill for the oldies like the W100 or the W109.

I liked it too until I got to the Specifications page: starting at 120k Euros - wow ;(
No, I do not like the price. :(

Polestar 4 then.

In my country the 5 is:

Dual motor - Launch edition
Range¹ ²:⁨670 km⁩ (WLTP)
Power¹:⁨550 kW⁩ / ⁨748 hp⁩
Torque¹:812 Nm
0–100 km/h¹:3.9 seconds
$186,812.40
  • 20-inch Aero wheels
  • Polestar engineered sophisticated passive chassis
  • High-performance audio system
  • Black seatbelts with Swedish gold stripe
  • Anodised Brembo brakes
Yes that’s a lot of car, but a lot of money too! 550kW power is nice, but you cannot use it everywhere. A blink and you are already launching into orbit.

Edit:there is an even more powerful version!

My boss traded his Tesla for a Polestar 4. Not a bad looking car but very wide. Would be great on the motorway. Terrible on the country lanes where I live though.
Nah our UK home is in the country side. It’s fine. I had it on loan from Polestar. Same with my Netherlands Porsche Panamera it’s wide but fine and perverse even better as the steering wheel is right next to the verge.

Sure sitting up a bit higher when I had a range Range Rover or GLS you feel like you are more in command.

But from direct experience I can say it’s not an issue. When doing a long distance the size really helps with the comfort. That is why they are so popular. But that is with any car of that size and weight to be fair.

Cars in the Netherlands are a bit expensive. A draw back most definitely from the high taxation but hey people still get them. And don’t forget this site against other cars that are even more expensive. Sure it’s a lot of money but it’s also really well priced for what it is.

My other Polestar complaint is the very drab colour range.

I like that new Skoda Vision O concept, it looks clean and elegant.

True, and agreed, its very muted. Almost depressingly so. That is why we wrapped ours :p

Yes, definitely. I like that a lot.

I also still like the Zeekr 001 Sport Edition, basically a Polestar 4 or Lotus Emeya but a fair bit cheaper.

I don't usually pay much attention to concept cars as they are usually quite different from the final release.
But I liked the look of the IONIQ 3.

Just watched the video. Lots to like here! I wish she opened the hatchback but maybe it's not operable in this demo. Would definitely be interested.

I would love to drive the new Renault 5. Seems a lot of fun. Great design.

Those prices all just seem insane for something any car manufacturer can do. Big wheels, big audio system, fancy seatbelts? and brembo breaks and for the price of a house. Yet with all that money the car still cannot drive itself. That is the biggest luxury I use everyday in an hour long country commute. I sit back and the car takes me there while I enjoy my audiobook or music. And with that I still have plenty of power to give me a thrill if I want to take over and put the accelerator down.

But still, other cars with the same power in my country are even more costly than that, sometimes more than double the price. So the price is costly, but it's still a fair amount of car for the money.

I am not aware of any cars in my country that are legally full self driving, where the driver can completely ignore everything around them and rely on the car to do everything.

I don't think I'd trust any of the cars at the moment to do that, especially not those which rely on only relatively few sensor types to achieve "self driving".

I use FSD (Full Self Drive) in my Tesla every single day, and use it to go just about everywhere. It rarely ever has me needing to interfere and is simply amazing at how good it is. I also have slightly older hardware as my Tesla is a 2021 and the newer ones have better computer hardware that can do things even better.

In the US. I don’t think FSD is available many other places.

My 2024 drove 8 hours without a single intervention (a 4 hour segment and then a 3 hour 48 min segment). FSD is amazing. Made driving from 9pm to 1am amazing. lol.

And it keeps getting better with every update. I’m using it more and more. (Will use it today 5 hours to drive home). Doing some late vacationing / family visits.

Happy that supercharging prices are mostly .44 kWh here in California now.

Add me to the list of happy with FSDs. I have it in both my 2019 TM3 & 2021 TMY (both HW3 & intel based). Drove me on my last trip from Long Island NY to MD without disengaging except for after it pulled into the parking lot to Super Charge and park at my destination. This included going through Brooklyn (Belt Parkway), Staten Island, the toll booth after the Delaware Memorial Bridge.

I use it every day, I live in Long Island NY and work downtown Brooklyn. I commute 3 hours per day (minimum), life is sooooo much easier with FSDs. Will not own a vehicle without a similar or better level of L2 Drivers Aid.

Energy in general is so much cheaper in the USA that I find it interesting supercharging here is .28 or .30 euro/kWh (depends on the location, it suspect it's related to the voltage level they are connected). And that's the peak pricing.
Gasoline for example is around 7.6 USD/gallon (Google conversions). And that's the cheapest regular fuel you can get.
