There’s no huge difference with the pro.
Agreed. The pro feels like a more worthy upgrade because they literally used materials to make it feel that way. It’s a beautiful, powerful device to be sure, but not much different in function from the 12. That said, I’ve upgraded devices I. The last based on feels so no judgement here, but your statement is fact.

Next complaint. The scaling is different on the 12 than the 11 so less text/fewer emails appear on the 12. That’s also a miss for me! Haven’t found a compelling reason to keep the 12 yet...

The 'downscaling' on the 12 Pro coming from my 11 is the most annoying thing and I think its what is most making me regret the purchase (going to try the 12PM - supposedly its fixed there)

Wow. People are actually cutting their hands on this phone.

May have to rethink wanting a 12 altogether. The thought of having to use a case is kind of a deal breaker. Shame about the sharp edges. Not sure what Apple is thinking.
i have the 12 pro and the edges arent that sharp to cause that

Why are the comments on that post from years ago?

I just got my 12 Pro, and dang, the phone feels so boxy, sharp edges are truly an inferior design choice, I don't understand why reviewers don't push back a bit more against this design. Sure it looks sexy, sure it looks classic like the iPhone 4, but it's not ergonomic, the sharp edges on such a big phone is just a clear downside to me and I really hope this design doesn't stay with us for too long, I'd really love Apple to go back to round/ergonomic design.

Because of this boxy design I'm actually tempted at testing the 12 mini, it seems the boxiness might be less of an issue on a smaller form-factor (as it was with iPhone 4).

People don’t push back on the design because most put these phones in cases anyway. This takes away the sharpness of the edges and provides a more ergonomic feel. Even Apple expect us to use cases which is why that aspect was heavily promoted in the keynote. I’m quite liking the return to flat edges and personally I find it more ergonomic as it’s easier for me to hold.

Did you get $440 for your xr from Apple, or a carrier? Curious because I looked and my 11 was only going to fetch $350. :(

I got the $440 at Best Buy for trading in Xr towards a iPhone 12 with Verizon. No monthly bill credits, it was immediate.

Yes this is a promotion for upgrading with Verizon through bestbuy. I read the promotion and they charge 40$ for an upgrade fee. So it’s more like 400$. 300$ to trade in outright without carrier promotion. It’s a good deal if you’ve got your money’s worth out of using an xr over the last two years But not a good deal if you purchased anytime this year

This makes no sense IMO. It should never be the expectation that cases are used. I understand why they often are, because it’s an expensive accident waiting to happen without one. But I am surprised at how many reviews are praising the design as if it is something spectacular, when it is just a change from the last few years.

I too think the square edges make the phones worse to hold (personal, perhaps unpopular, opinion coming from a ‘naked’ X), and why should I have to put a case on a phone to make this better. Doesn’t that defeat the object if it has been designed to be the best apple can make it?

I get this is all subjective, but there should be “push back“ / other opinions where they apply. I’ll stick with the naked X until I don’t need to put a case on a phone to make it better to hold.

I don’t know what design philosophies Apple use to be honest as they are a company who have often gone for beauty over function in the past. Ergonomically a flat edge provides more point of contact with a surface, but the human hand allows a shape to be formed around to some extent. It’s all very subjective I know but with the introduction of such fragile design, I feel protection is more of a key aim than enjoying the true unshielded design in its truest form.

I’m sure Apple are more than happy for people to go case-less however as they make a fortune repairing your phone if you don’t have insurance or through their highly lucrative AppleCare scheme.

Has anyone ever heard of (Or done themselves) a return TWICE with a Phone you got on the iUP?

In my case, I originally ordered and got a Blue Pro 12 in 512 GB that was delivered on launch day. I was actually getting a color I was excited about for once. I still long for a Product Red Pro, but the pacific blue was really appealing.

The first disappointment was actually regarding the case I got, specifically the clear MagSafe case. I was excited to use a clear case because as I mentioned, I was excited about the color this year. But I was not a fan of the clear case at all. It was just way too slippery. So I returned it and went back to a tried and true product red silicone case.

The second issue with the phone was the capacity. I went from 256 to 512 because I was genuinely concerned about how big these Dolby Vision video files would be. I thought I was being smart by playing it safe and get extra storage. (My phone is our families main camera and we have 2 young children.) Little did I know they would require the use of the HEVC codec so instead of the videos taking 400 megs as I had ben use to on my 256 11 Pro, they would in fact only be taking HALF THAT! So I got a phone in a storage capacity I am never ever going to need.

I have been really bothered by the fact that I got the larger capacity phone. I kept debating if it was worth the cost difference to go through an exchange. I mulled over it for a few days as I knew it would be a hassle but yesterday I went to my local Apple Store and did returned my Blue 512 GB pro and exchanged it for a 256 Silver. As expected, it was a bit of an ordeal being as I was on the iUP and all. I had not even sent off my old phone yet so I just brought it in and once my return was finalized, I basically just started again with applying to the iUP and all that.

My issue now, is that I really do not want silver. But it's all they had and it just...bothers me. I know it's stupid and it ultimately does not matter that much but I can't get over it. To the point where it's been almost 24 hours since I got the phone and I haven't even opened it yet. I've been checking stock around me to see if any store near me gets more stock but of course they haven't.

Is it even possible to do another return with the iUP? I guess it would be fine. I'd just have to close out a new loan...again!

It occurred to me as I have typed this up that I could of/should of just returned the blue and just kept my old phone a little longer. Then ordered the one I wanted online or something.
I empathize with the "regret" here.

As someone who had the 256gb X (a bit different then because they only had 64gb and 256gb versions, no 128gb), I've now gone with the 128gb 12 Pro given I'm barely using 80gb right now (I share the 2TB iCloud plan with my wife and store all my photos / videos in iCloud).

I also have 2 young kids and understand taking so many photos / videos.

I personally would've kept the 512gb version if it was in the Pacific Blue color you liked and you were already comfortable with the ~$200 price increase from 256gb -> 512gb. But what's done is done.

In my opinion, I would keep the 256gb silver. Slap a case on it (maybe you were going to do that anyways, especially with 2 young kids, I know I am!) and you'll likely forget about the silver color in no time. Then you avoid having to do the return process / IUP complexity again. You can always keep an eye on stock to see if any nearby stores get colors you want, and can make the call then whether you want to go through the process.

A lot of apps still need to update to target the new 12 Pro width. Right now most of them are just rendering as 11 Pro sized so they look huge. Won't be the same as the 11 still, but a little better at least

Why aren’t you impressed?

I think main reason in the display but I am figuring out how to adjust it to my liking using some of the accesibility settings for color. True tone seems too red when left as is. The colors on the screen of my 10.5 ipad pro are much more appealing to the eye. Also speed improvements , while benchmarks show quite a difference, real life speed improvements have been minimal so far for me. I guess it is all about the camera, where the real improvements are seen.

If I wasn't getting $440 for my X I would not keep this 12Pro. I enjoy it don't get me wrong but it is not $1000 worth enjoying. Getting the $440 from Verizon for my X which has a cheesy LCD because I broke the screen recently and replaced it with one from Amazon. So between the battery life and the screen issue I feel like I am making a score with the $440.

The comments all appear to be from the last day. Are you looking at the “member since” date?
The article is ridiculous, the edges have a very slight rounding which I find more comfortable than the chamfered edges they used to include on earlier designs.

Oh yes, silly me. It was early in the morning when i posted that.

I originally thought I was going to return the 12 pro and get the Max since I was coming from 11 pro max. But after using the 12 pro over the weekend, I realized I really don't miss the screen real estate and it is nice to be able to use the phone 1 handed. The ONLY thing that I am struggling with is the 12 pro max having the better camera. I take a lot of photos and honestly, not sure I can see a difference between 12 pro and the 11 pro max that I had.
Chances are you won’t see a difference between 12 Pro and 12 PM unless theyre placed side by side.

Honestly, I wasn’t considered returning the 12, but I’m having second thoughts now of course. I really miss my SE2.
Interesting comment on missing your SE2! Did you find that besides having more camera lens options and the fancier display, that the 12 was not really much of an upgrade over the SE2? What was it that you miss about it?

I am curious because I have an 11, and have never been happy with the size, and I really miss touchID. I thought I was crazy to even consider the SE2, but that size phone (from my days with my 6S and the 7) seems it was always perfect.
