I was planing on getting the 9.7, but after thinking about it, I think the bigger screen is going to be better for me. I plan on taking a lot of notes in school, so the bigger screen will be much nicer to write on. And with Stapples having a sale on the 128 Gig, I just went to Best Buy, price matched it and got it for 799, only 50 more bucks for the 9.7 I was planing on getting it.

Not exactly the same for me, but I bought a 12.9 the other day and I am returning it for the 9.7. Although a great piece of technology and the screen is awesome, I just find it too heavy and impractical for most uses. I just figure that a tablet should be more portable or comfortable to hold. Looking forward to the same features in a smaller package though.

Why? I have the iPad Air 2. I bought the iPad Pro 12.9 mainly for the size. I don't use the pen. If I want 9.7 I would just use my Air 2. Using iPad Pro 12.9 is much more immersive and its speed is outstanding.

You're going to LOVE the big screen for note taking. I know I love mine!

Who among you will sell their iPad Pro 12.9" to buy the new 9.7" model?
What reasons may push you to this step?
Sold my 12.9 and ordered the 9.7. The 12.9 was just too big for my usage. I use mine outside the house quite often and the big Pro just wasn't comfortable for me carrying around.

It took 4 relistings but I FINALLY sold my iPad Pro and am so happy.

I do feel the iPad Pro is a great size, but the problem was that it just never felt right as either a Computer Replacement or a Pro Tablet (for me).

- Apps were always "lite" versions compared to desktop
- Awkward multitasking. Too many strokes for simple tasks
- Touch isn't always ideal (sometimes a mouse is the right tool)
- No User Switching
- Final price after all accessories made it far higher than a basic MacBook

I packed up my 12.9 iPad Pro and stole the wife's Air2 and everything feels "just right" again. Sure, the same shortcomings exist on either size but on a 9.7 then it doesn't feel like it's trying to be any more than it is. A really good tablet.

That said, Im definitely getting a Pro9.7 but I can wait for the inevitable sales. I just don't think the $600 price tag will make it a hot item and retailers will likely give a few breaks to move inventory.

4 relistings? Gee I better start getting patient then, I already relisted my iPad Air 2 twice and so far no takers. People email me about it saying they are interested but never respond back when I write them. Really want to get the iPad Pro really ready to upgrade but wont buy it til I unload this one

Yea I noticed all of what you're mentioning and I want even trying to make it a laptop replacement. The blown up apps were really glaring and while I know this will improve over time, I don't necessarily think that will be the go to market for developers.

I'm with you there. 2GB wasn't enough on my Air 2 and it won't be enough on the 9.7 Pro.
While I have no doubt there are some who are already hitting the limits of 2GB RAM (*cough* multi-tab Safari *cough*), I wonder if people are expecting Apple to suddenly change its spots and being generous with RAM upgrades. I would be pleasantly surprised if the next 9.7" iPad has 4GB RAM but I'm certainly not counting on it (hence, upgrading now because I do want 256GB and my current iPads are getting a bit long in the tooth).

Well, thats the problem with todays Apple. Far too often they release a product to hype and fanfare but a few months (or years) later you look back and notice how little investment they put into improvements or advancing the ecosystem surrounding it.

Siri. AppleTV. Lightning. Watch. Force Touch. Photos. ApplePay. iTunes. Bigger screen devices with properly optimized Apps/OS (phone/iPad).

It sucks to admit it but our imagination greatly exceed the effort that Apple is willing to invest in their products. And if Apple isn't investing the time and effort then why would Devs?

So as much as I see the potential of a 12.9" tablet, I can't help but think of how long it will reach to get Apps and an OS that take advantage of it.

While I well agree on everyone that the 12.9 is an awesome screen. Overall I just thought the screen to keyboard ratio looks overboard .. And maybe this isn't the right word but "try hard" somewhat doesn't seem flow-ish. Lol sorry for my words but best way to describe.

And since the screen is big.. Tapping and touching got a little tiring for extensive work (1hr+).. While on the 9.7 it didn't seem as much that way.. Sure it was bit annoying to tap once and awhile but it just kept flowing more productively to me than the 12.9.

I personally believe 12.9 is great for artist that need that space..

But for me I'm doing emails, iMessage, Safari, notes, and keynote. Simple notebook work that an be done on a smaller scale. Once awhile I use the pen for graphing something up quickly.

So I believe 9.7 is awesome for a mini notebook/laptop work. 12.9 I can't seem to justify over just whipping out the good ol macbook at that point. Other than hating to carry Around an extra charger
I am just debating if I like the Smart Keyboard or the magic keyboard better

Using the Smart Cover in flat stand.. when wanted it nice

I will be sticking with the 12.9" screen for the foreseeable future. I am a college student, and find this to be the perfect device for 99% of my daily needs. I don't go anywhere without it. An amazing educational tool, great for taking notes, mesmerizing for media consumption, still only 1.5 lbs, I could go on for days.

How's this Ipad pro (12.9") with mobility? Do you take it with you to the college and to anywhere around?
I asitate about the mobility with this ipp.

If I could just chime in on this. Having had my 12.9" for a while now I honestly can't see where there could be an issue with mobility. Other than we're spoiled these past few years with ever smaller, ever lighter devices.

I've taken mine many places and it's no more difficult mobility wise than say a MacBook or a MacBook Air. It's basically like carrying a hefty magazine.

I suppose in the end it depends what you're used to. If you're used to something like an iPad Mini, it will seem big to begin with. If you're used to taking a laptop with you you won't notice a difference other than it likely being lighter. If you're used to an iPad Air or any of the other 9.7" iPads, it's really not that much different when all's said and done.

It's trivial to me because I remember carrying around a 17" Alienware gaming laptop many, many years ago that weighed more than a 21" iMac does now. Compared to something like that the Pro is like carrying a sheet of paper :D

I carry mine _with_ my 15" rMBP everyday on an hour commute (each way) by bus and train to school. I've also carried it with me on several cross-country business trips. No problem at all. The 12.9" iPP is lighter than most laptops you're going to find and will fit in any normal "laptop" pocket in a backpack or satchel.

It's hard to see how the 12.9" iPP has any trouble with mobility at all...

In 8 to 9 years or less the 12.9 iPad Pro will be looked back upon as riduculous as we now look upon Brick cell phones of the 80's. Like who the heck thought that was cool ? Or like MC Hammer pants.

Thank you very much for your detailed answer. It's going to be my first ipad (and tablet). I hesitate which of them to buy because of my needs. I understand that it is not too heavy for you to carry and mobile it with you to everywhere you need around.

It could go one of three ways. The first would be that we are right, and screen sizes such as the iPad Pro and Surface Pro 4 take off and no one cares what you have because it's not "ridiculous." The second way is that we end up using something that hasn't even been created yet and none of us are using these anyway so it's not "ridiculous." The third way is that you are exactly right and it is seen as "ridiculous" to use an iPad Pro 12.9". Good thing I don't care what people think since it works awesome for me. :)
