My question is though do you think that there will be a macbook Pro update before fall? I'm a senior this year in High school, and looking to get a laptop for college.. and like many places now, its about split half and half for PCs vs Mac used in the school I'm going to, so I want to get a Macbook Pro since I can run windows on it as well

But I don't want to buy a Macbook Pro now, when the update could be happening within a few months, even if its before the end of the year would be fine

What do you think? I think it has to be updated at the next conference

I think there is a good chance it will get Penryn updates before March, if anything because the PC manufacturers will have started shipping their Penryn equipped laptops by then. Don't expect a complete redesign until November.

I've waited for months, I won't stop now. End of January I'm guessing.

Yeah, me too. I've been waiting since the release of the Aluminium iMac's (and my insurance company replaced my powerbook with a MBP but I sold it because I was determined to wait for an update, and they only sent me the base model which wasn't a good enough spec for my needs)

you know what I bought my MBP in OCT 07 and I for all those who are waiting for the Next best MBP all i have to say is hahahahahahaha. I wonder when the newest speculation on the NEXT MBP will start. I heard it will be 0.15 inch at its very thickest and have 10GB of RAM. Please go buy your MBP use it, and be well.

regards.

November? why november? why not lets say WWDC?

Because Apple likes to feed these things to us piecemeal. Because the Penryn updated MBPs will be selling like hot cakes well into the early Fall, while Apple's profit margins increase (as their raw materials costs, no pun intended, fall).

No way. The minute I buy one they'll release some updated specs and/or larger trackpad + LED backlit display.

No WAY!

I'm sorta pissed off that apple didn't update them. But I'm going to buy one because i'm sick of waiting. Does anybody know the return policy if a new one is released? Like if you can get it exchanged if a new MBP is released within a week of purchase?

you have 15 days from the time of purchase, like all apple products

...and don't come back here and moan when the silent update doesn't materialize in like 2 weeks

Ditto. People keep saying "wait, wait!". Guess what? Jan. 15th came, and you're still waiting. How long will you wait for a 5% increase in processor speed?

Excuse me Mr. and Mrs. 2006 and 2007 join date. Do you even know how many times Apple has released a new product at an event, and then silently updated current products shortly after? Several times. And it's more than a 5% processor increase people are waiting for on the MBP. It's a GPU upgrade, HDD upgrade, Case change etc. The list goes on. So the guy who said "Don't come back and bitch when the MBP's are updated in 2 weeks.." is spot on. That's most likely what will happen. I'm not saying it's gonna happen, but its likely given Apple's track record. Think about that next time you want to attack someone for making a perfectly logical and educated guess.

Hi, I'm Mr. 2003 join date and I agree with this statement.

I think we saw a small light at the end of the tunnel when Jobs spoke about the environmental advances in MBA. He said "We are going to do this for our major product introductions going forward." Jobs has committed to a greener apple and it is only a matter of time until we see this come into the MBP; we will see a case design if only for this reason.

re

i'm buying a refurb 15" 2.2ghz mbp tonight and using the money i saved buying refurb to buy 4gigs of ram...among many other things. no more waiting

and besides, maybe apple will send me a new mbp when i order my refurb if they are releasing new ones soon

I think I'm still gonna sell my 2.2GHz MBP and keep the money for when a new one comes out. I don't need a MBP as I have a Windows laptop from work, so I'm ok with waiting...for now

Then why did you buy the MBP in the first place? Sometimes I get the feeling some of you on this forum have disposable income. I was at Macworld today and my credit card was jumping out of my pocket, the only thing I ordered was Time Capsule, because I needed it, not due to disposable income. :)

I didn't buy the MBP, it was a replacement that my insurance company sent me for my smashed G4 PowerBook. I do not have a disposable income, I wish I did. I am a university student and my money takes a hell of a long time to save.

All I am saying is that with the software I have (Logic Studio, Adobe CS3, and Final Cut Studio), and the types of things I plan on using a MBP for (sound recording and some video editing), the 120GB internal hard drive isn't enough (and I don't want an external drive to supplement an insufficient internal one).

If I had bought the machine, I would have at least upgraded the hard drive to its max.

I'm not getting one now, you'd be an idiot to do so. There is no chance in hell that apple won't update the mbps in the next month. currently they're not cutting edge as other microsoft based laptops have started including penryn which won't do apple any favours.

due to the release of an all new ground breaking laptop. apple would rather capitalise on sales of the air for 2 weeks before giving the mbp a quick refresh. a lot of people would have been hoping for a new mbp at mac world and be disappointed and even the air may not meet their requirements they'd get itchy feet, see how unbelievably slim the thing is and buy it!

Very True.

The Mac Pro's were refreshed a week before Macworld.

The Macbook Air was introduced yesterday.

The Macbook Pro might be refreshed silently a week or 2 from now.

The way I see it is, everyone's going on about how unlikely it is for Apple to do a silent update on the MBP blah blah blah....but....There was a significant update to the Mac Pro a week before MacWorld...and guess what? That was a silent update.

Apple don't always make a big thing about updating products. Yeah, I agree that there might not be a new case design until the summer, or WWDC, but that's not what people are mostly waiting for. Most people on here are more interested in the internals being updated such as HDD, GPU, CPU, etc.

I think it will be longer to tempt people to buy the Air. Maybe April.

Why would people be tempted?

People would rather buy the Macbook than to buy the Air... Neh, people will buy from another company more willing to listen to their customers than to wait. They are catered disparately two distinct markets.

ahh you may be right, they'll give the newly released MBA more time to shine and persuade buyers to jump on the wagon.

I feel so sad for us, and other people still waiting. :(

This post by MacRumours states that something super secret will be showed at the Final Cut Pro user group meeting. It's doubtful that it will be the MacBook Air because it's hardly capable of running such software.

This post also states that even MacRumours have heard rumblings of MBP updates
