Whose in....no 2 GB RAM, no 6s?

What you're suggesting is Apple is choosing form and profits, over function and user experience. I agree, this is the reason why I've gotten cold on Apple iOS products. While I am okay with some features lagging behind the S6, which I currently own, the lack of RAM is a real deal breaker for me.

You're opinion is apple chooses profits over user-experience? Interesting.

I'm sorry if this has already been discussed but it is a long thread, so I'll quickly ask again a simple yes or no question. More and more I'm finding on both iPhone 6plus and my iPad mini retina, when I am on web pages with a lot of content, the page often reloads with a message that something went wrong on the page. Is that from low ram?

In a word - yes.

Thanks Jsameds! Oh goodness, this doesn't bode well for the longevity of my beloved IPad mini 2. It's the device I use most for Internet and this is happening so often now when I surf. I don't consistently visit the same sites enough to justify downloading an app to view each site. What a pain.

The iPhone I'm definitely planning on upgrading but it had better come with at least 2 gigs. I'm not a power user by any means nor particularly focused on specs but I have watched this phone underperform awhile now. Same with my mini but that's at least a couple years old.

It's the subject of many a debate, though. In my experience I've come to the conclusion that the RAM is the issue. I upgraded from iPad Air 1 to iPad Air 2 (1GB vs 2GB) and the reloading problems went away. But not just that either - whole apps and games didn't reload as often either, for example I'd be playing my old time favourite game Bloons Tower Defence 5 (Don't judge me haha!) and quit out and did some web browsing and opened a few other news apps etc.

Much to my surprise I went back to Bloons about 20 minutes later and the game was still running, it didn't reload when I went back in (as was often the case with iPad Air 1).

So - in my opinion it's RAM, and the more the better. Either way the 6S will have 2GB, I'd bet my life savings on it.

As for your iPad Mini 2, don't lose hope! iOS 9 will be a lot more efficient and will likely perform better than it is now despite 1GB :)

Im quite worried tbh.. Look at ios8. Up til 8.3, still buggy as it is. Heck ios8.3 completely paralyzed my ipad3 with memory usage constantly hovering at 90% and very prominent stutterings/lagness. Really missed my ios 6 experience.

I get you - I have 8.3 on iPT 5th gen and it's horrible.

At this stage in the game, when it comes to the iPhone, Apple's biggest cash cow, unfortunately yes. It's a hot product and Apple knows they can sneak in questionable decisions like 1GB, small batteries, and cheap aluminum, and make a few extra dollars on every device, which in a big picture adds billions in the bank.

Sucks, but it's true. Apple is not doing the consumer any favors with 1GB of RAM.

Personally I'm sticking to my guns and flat out saying I will never buy an iPhone for myself that has 1GB of RAM.

Mind you, I'm only speaking for myself. I just got my wife an iPhone 6 to replace my iPhone old 5, which will be a backup phone for whomever needs it in the house.

Don't believe anything changed in Control Center. Disabling mobile/cellular data isn't a common enough action for Apple to justify putting it there, in particular at the cost of losing one of the existing controls that they deemed worthy of being there.

Losing of the existing controls? Uhm no, it would be very nice that you can edit you quick/buttons just like in the jailbreak community.

That's to bad because i need to go every time to the settings to toggle the cellular data on or off.

I do not think the i6 or i6+ feels cheap in any sense of the word or is compromised "by only" 1gig of memory. Could it use more memory? Sure, like my car can use better gas mileage.

It definitely feels premium, but the user experience on the device, notably ip6+ is quite appalling. During the ip4/5 days, it feels premium AND provides a very fluid user experience. Today I've managed to get my hands on samsung note 4 for a short while, and comparing side by side with ip6+, sammy felt very snappy and responsive, something what ios used to be... Don't get me wrong, I'm a very satisfied ios user on 6/7, but 8 onwards is indeed a very big disappointment for those longing for fluidity. You can have tonnes of crazy features, but compromising fluidity, is like compromising the first few aspects of what users experience. And that alone itself is the mess ios is now in, which I hope that could be completely resolved with newer iterations of ios and the phone hardware aspect.

There seems to be a YMMV with phone ownership these days across manufacturers.

I bought a 6, used it and then gave it to family member. I've played around with many 6+ and have not seen the issues some reported on these forums. In other words, no lag, fluid experience etc. With the vast number of iphones it's inevitable to have varied user experiences.

In fact, i don't believe that 2gb RAM will be enough, because with the larger screen you need more RAM. 2gb will be enough for some apps, but if you have alot open apps jn the background 2gb will not be enough. Trust me. At least need to be 3gb RAM.

2GB will probably be enough in the short run -- it'll be significantly better than 1GB for sure. But yeah, for iOS 10 and beyond, we'll probably be wishing Apple future proofed the phones and gave them 3 or 4GB

Memory usage has nothing to do with the screen size or number of pixels. I've said this time and time again. The 6 and 6 Plus have equal amounts of memory issues, with 1.74 million more pixels, but the 6 Plus has more GPU issues. Same with the 5S and the Mini 2, with 2.42 million more. Hell, even the 5K iMac and the new MacBook with an 11.4 million pixel difference between them, both with 8GB, perform as well as each other in terms of memory usage.

The only currency worth anything in here is negative opinions.

If you have nothing negative to say please keep it to yourself. They are trying to feel like important consumers here.

Errr....fair enough. But also what I am saying is that :apple: should increase the memory, but not to overdo it. My Air 2 has no memory issues, so the 6S should follow. And undoubtedly they will put a better GPU.

Well on the iPhone it does have to do with number of pixels as that is directly related to resolution. The iPhone doesn't have dedicated VRAM, so it uses the system memory for the graphics on the device, meaning that rendering a higher number of pixels will use more system memory. Also, since the iPhone 6+ isn't a scaled retina resolution, it needs to do extra processing by upscaling retina to 3X then downsampling it to 1920X1080 putting further strain on system resources.

The 5K iMac has discrete GPU with dedicated VRAM so it won't use system memory for graphics and pushing the pixels. I'm not too sure if the iGPU in the rMB has any dedicated VRAM, but it still shares system memory for graphics.

Consumers having opinions on the products they use, and speculating on what is needed in further generations is completely fine. People making assumptions and trashing others for doing so are not. If you don't have anything more constructive to add then please refrain from posting more drivel here.

Granted there is a lot of assumption made on both sides of the argument, but healthy arguments are good to have.

If Apple/Samsung/LG, and the rest never mentioned how much memory is on their systems, how would one know who smartphone is the best ? Apple optimizes the memory better than the others as demonstrated time, and time again while others do not with more memory. Give this some thought. Lag is important not to have, and [ some ] Samsung customers have complained about a little lag from time to time on their forums, and they have 3 GB of memory. Go figure

I find the iPad Air 2 with 2gb of RAM to be a satisfactory experience and it's moving over a million more pixels vs the iPhone 6+.
I have to agree. My Air 2 is everything I wanted my 6 Plus to be in terms of performance. Apple got it right with the Air 2.

Well the newer Samsung devices have 3GB (Note 4 and S3) as do other Android phones (Nexus 6, G4, etc.). While it does come down to optimization, the memory implementation on iDevices seems to be terrible. With more than 1GB of RAM iOS seems to fly. My 2nd gen mini is awesome on basic tasks, and when games are loaded in, but horrible on activities like graphics heavy websites. Just browsing the desktop version of MacRumors is a pain. I'll go to an article, then go back to the home page (swiping from left) and the page will show up (at least the cached image of it), but freeze then reload. That is so frustrating since it seems as if it is ready for me to interact with it, but in reality it's not.
