The UI seems like more steps to me to tell the truth. I will concede there are concessions with this X, no surprise there as this is the case with any flagship and we are spending good bucks on them. No way is this phone a slam dunk at this juncture and price. I will probably concede and return it but I thought I would not do it. Fully knowing I can pick it up down the road is better than regretting keeping it.

I returned mine coming from a 6s plus. Face ID irritated the hell out of me. Touch ID still better IMO. Also the screen size was a downgrade coming from any plus phone. The X is still a great phone but most apps aren't even optimized for the screen yet. Could take up to 6 months for that to happen. Not worth it to me. Going for the 8 plus until next year.
8 Plus is bad@$$. I can’t convince myself to leave it for the X.

I am picking up one tomorrow when I return the X. I already tried it once before and returned but to me there is not as many concessions at this point for my usage than with the X. And it is cheaper, I’d spend the money on the X if it was worth the extra money to me and at this stage of the game it isn’t.

I still have the 1st iPhone 2G. This is the 1st release I can say it’s not a grand slam. Home run yes but that’s it.

After going back and forth so many days and nights, gave in today and returned the X for an 8 (yes regular 4.7" 8). I was with 6, 6s, 7 and just could not get used to the taller and narrow screen and the heavier feeling. Yes I know it's only 25 grams vs. the 8 but for me it was noticeable. I also realized using the X that while the screen covers the whole phone my eyes really focus on the main area, so did not see an added benefit of the extra screen space. I am a huge fan, and always getting the latest and greatest, yet at this time felt it was not a good fit for me. With the 8 using same A11 and TrueTone I am very pleased.
I'm in the same boat. I returned my X and went with an 8. I couldn't justify the price and I wasn't blown away enough to keep it. I came from an iPhone 7 and I didn't really need the 8 it had enough upgrades for me to justify it and only cost me about 300 bucks after selling my 7.

Returned my X yesterday and exchanged it for an 8 Plus.

The wasted screen real estate was really disappointing. The fact that most apps I use were not updated to take advantage of the narrower screen. No home button wasn’t an issue, but Face ID is absolutely not convenient for how I use my phone. For having 57ppi more than the 8 Plus, I noticed absolutely no different in screen quality. Not worth the almost $1200 I spent on it.

The X is a wonderful device. Truly. But unfortunately it’s not for me and how I use my phone.

Just completed my return— I have no regrets trying out the iPhone X. It just wasn’t for me. Coming from a Galaxy S8 and iPhone 7, none of the new features on the X were enough to justify the $1250 price tag. FaceID, while pretty cool, wasn’t as reliable as TouchID. I also think I would have preferred Apple to have a bezel instead of the notch design— when I full screen my videos, the notch is extremely obvious. When I leave it at the native mode, I get extreme letter boxing, and at that point I feel like I’m using any other iPhone with a 4.7” display.

Mentioned negatives aside, there was a lot to like about the X. The hidden notifications turned out to be really useful, the battery life was decent, and most of the gestures felt natural. The size of the phone seemed just right. I originally complained about it being a little too wide, but it just took a little getting used to. I’ll probably have my credit card out for the second generation, when FaceID is matured and more reliable.

Because I’m in Oregon tomorrow and can return my iPhone bought in Chicago and buy the identical model there and save 10.25% sales tax! :) Paid for about 1/3 of my round trip flight that I was taking anyway.

For the record, I do pay my use tax. Illinois allows us a “safe harbor” calculation. I make sure to use that safe harbor.

I have a feeling a lot of the iPhone X users who converted back over to the iPhone 8, will be opting for the 6.1 rumored LCD model next year. I still think that will be a highly popular model with a cheaper price Compared to the iPhone X. It's just a matter of making a decision if they want to adopt to Face ID or not.

I’m not so sure X users that converted back to the 8 did it because of price. That wasn’t my reason. And if you read a lot of the posts here that wasn’t the reason for going back.

No, they didn't convert back to the iPhone 8 because of the price, its because they wanted the form factor of the 8 and they didn't care for Face ID as others opinions have stated above. If somebody cared about the price point, they wouldn't have purchased the iPhone X in the first place.

Interesting. For me FaceID has been more reliable than TouchID. Granted, you need to look directly into the phone but that hasn’t been hard for me to adapt to.

Extra step since you have to touch the screen anyway. With touchID I do not have to concern myself looking directly into the phone.

Extra step to close apps since you need to hold down to engage the - , no zoomed option for display, the notch, price not justified over 8 and Plus, display not out of the park (true tone is piss yellow), etc

Do I need to go on? :)

I have a minor issue with Face ID because I have a habit of holding up the iPhone while I am removing my glasses, which confuses the Face ID.

All I have to do, though, is swipe up from the bottom and I get the moving symbol that Face ID is trying again, and it always works.

So while it is probably not speedier than Touch ID, it only takes about 1 s flat and the overall bottom line is one of a net return of a "convenience" factor.

IMHO.

I think you are conflating two things. Ill has a use tax, which is a tax on items that you have/should pay on out of state purchases (mostly internet) but that are used in illinois. It's basically a self reporting. Safe Harbor is something completely different relating to income and withholding taxes paid on an annual basis and reaching a similar amount to years prior.

Technically, for USE tax items one is still required to pay the use tax, but frankly for something picked up in OR, IL would never ever know.

I had iPhone X for 5 days. On the first day I loved it and I was hoping I will get used to size coming from 7+. Today I exchanged it for 8+ and 500€
Main reasons:
- small display size
- smaler keyboard
- didn’t like the gestures, it was not precize enough
- the notch getting in my eye most of the time
- I preffer touch id over face id
- getting 500€ was not too bad :)))

Poll 3.0 updates
-3 new choices added!!!
-turned off public voting (I that am unknown will rule the nations.)
-bipolar mode activated (users can change poll choices)
***keep your suggestions coming, great job everyone***

I know it can make my eyes crazy tired on larger displays, but it might not be so bad on a smaller display which I use for shorter periods of time. Thankfully it doesn’t give me a headache or anything.
The worst experience I had was a 60” U6200 Samsung TV. But the X bothered me enough after a short while. I ended up returning even the watch as that caused a little discomfort as well. It’s not so much, “I can handle the eye fatigue.” as it is “My eyes are more valuable than tech.” Hope it works out for you!

Can someone elaborate on the modulation issue? I have always had the Plus.. have 8 Pus now.. I don’t get headaches but have seen concerns over modulation.
Here’s a good read:

I just unboxed my new 8 plus and am restoring from a backup. Cant wait to get back to the familiar...
UNF!!! (see https://www.shackwiki.com/wiki/Latestchatty for explanation)

Which drugs should I take to be able to decipher the poll options?
-request fulfilled

I’m still on the list, huh? Lol
-option added

Only thing i dont like 8+ is the sharp home button.
Can you elaborate on this?

Yup and yup.

Just returned my 256GB X and went back to my 7. None of my kids wanted my 7 (one 6s and one SE) lol. If either of them wanted it, it would’ve helped make the case for me to keep the X.

Really liked the big changes on the X - screen, cameras, big storage (have 128 on my 7), noticeably better battery life, even the quality of the speakers. Oh wireless charging is cool too, have long had it on my spare Android phones such as my current S8+, but never bought the wireless charger until the iPhone X.

It’s the small stuff that got to me. Slowish to unlock, missing the full time status indicators like battery % and do not disturb on icon, can’t unlock phone without picking it up or while in my pocket (I do this to unlock my watch), but most of all, those gesture controls that take the place of the home button just makes doing everything so slow and cumbersome.

Didn’t think I’d return it, as I spent another $100 on accessorie to go with it, but those gesture controls got to me this week.

Just got back from returning mine as well. This is actually my second go around with trying to own the phone. First I got on launch day which was later returned and thought to myself I would give it one more shot. I think I felt the void of not having the latest device so went ahead and reserved one this morning. 10 hours later it went back to the store after deciding the X is not for me. I currently own a 7 Plus and felt like I lost too much in terms of screen real estate. Definitely a deal breaker for me. The screen of the X also failed to wow me. Holding the two phones side by side with the brightness all the way up..call me crazy but I thought the 7 Plus looked better. Even two other members of my household thought the same. Possibly I got a lemon of a screen on the X but the screen on my 7 Plus was one of the best, most uniform I had over the years of owning IPhones so it was hard to move on from. Long story short it went back. I liked the phone but did not love it which to me did not justify the cost. I have no issues with Face ID or the gestures it was just a matter of screen size and the smaller keyboard annoyed me. Here is hoping for an X Plus next year. My overall opinion of the device is I felt like the X was more of an upgrade for the non plus users with a lot more to be desired.

eh..i had to return the x for 8 plus....too small for me. Someone in my family will be needing my iphone 8 plus eventually....hopefully this x plus will work out. No problem with anything from x....:(
