I use Siri frequently while in the car. I'm sure I'd use it more if I knew what else it could do. How do I get it to read a text I just received? Or is that a IOS 6 thing?
Well, michael, I wonder if they'll release iOS6 as a beta on the next iPhone, since they like making people buy beta products.
There is a boatload of commands that Siri will flat out tell you it can not do. It can't back up your device for you. It can't create playlists. It can't read anything to you besides incoming text messages with headphones plugged in. It can't do voicemail. Download. Buy. Photos. Videos. iTunes U. Read iBook.
These are all commands that Siri will flat out say
"NO."
So in the end, what are you using Siri for? I mean, doing things you can already do is not really assisting...![]()
I just gave valid examples of exactly what I use Siri for and you are asking what I use Siri for?Well, michael, I wonder if they'll release iOS6 as a beta on the next iPhone, since they like making people buy beta products.

michael said:By the way, if I wanted to use Siri for voicemail I could: "call me on iPhone."
But that takes too much thinking on my part, I thought it was supposed to be a, you know, assistant?
I appreciate it for what it can do, but I was definitely expected more out of it, I'll just say that. But the worst part about it is that when you try to ask for help on the forums the automatic go to answer is
It's beta.
So you can't even get any help with the product.
Except that it IS an assistant for some of us.
"Remind me at 2 tomorrow to do ____."
"When I leave work, remind me to pick up milk."
"text Bob and tell him I can't make the appointment."
All examples of what I would use an assistant for...that Siri does.
I would not ask an assistant what the weather was in the capital of Venezuela.
That's because you're not using it productively.
Most people aren't that forgetful that they need to remind themselves of something every day. Especially when the app is sitting smack dab in the middle of your home screen.
And let's face it. If it's going to remind you to pick up silk instead of milk, how much time do you lose by correcting it all the time? A lot.
Siri has a much lower intelligence level than I do, it's not even fun to talk to. You might as well be talking to a monkey.
A personal assistant or personal aide (PA) is someone who assists in daily business or personal tasks.
Siri is a personal assistant. Since you don't seem to know what that means, here's the definition from Wikipedia:
Oddly enough, that's exactly what I use it for.
It's not supposed to be something to talk to, it's supposed to help you. It's a tool. Nothing more.
After a busy day at work, if Siri tells me to pick up silk instead of milk, I'm sure I'd understand what it meant and be grateful for the reminder.
Voice control with a twist. I'm sorry but I'm just disinterested in it now.
I love siri. I use it on a daily basis for calls, texts, calendar appointments, reminders (omni focus), and web searches. I find Siri to be tremendously useful and convenient.
