Maybe it's just me but I really don't care how my phone gets mail, I just want it to do it.....and it does.....and I'm pretty confident I represent the *vast* majority of people.

Ya I mean who cares about battery life anyway?

Ya I mean who cares about battery life anyway?
Never said I didn't care about battery life. However, I don't find it inconvenient to throw the phone on a car charger when my battery is low and I'm out and about. I have a 1st Gen iPhone that I bought on day one. I use it every single day and there has *never* been a single time when I couldn't use it because the battery was dead.

I was beginning to think I was the only one who thought this. :D Seriously, my iPhone is a personal device. When I want to check my e-mail, I open the app, it checks, I see if I have mail. I see absolutely no reason to be notified the instant a message hits my inbox. I guess if I used it for business, I might care, but then again, I have a BB for that, and frankly, it doesn't hold a candle to the iPhone in ANY area, and I can't even imagine actually paying for it. :)

Dont even try to say that iPhone has real push, it doesnt. Its a huge battery hog the way they have it. It constantly pings the server looking for new email. Thats NOT push, thats a constant request. True push is patented by RIM, and your phone doesnt have to keep asking for mail.

That's totally false. There's Mobile Me and MS Exchange for the iPhone. I have both a BB and iPhone and both services. Push e-mail works fine on both devices.

IMHO, Yahoo mail is no good to begin with. I don't know what Apple was thinking when they partnered with them for push e-mail.

i'd hope apples own mail service would push reliably. lol, and exchange is exchange. yahoo used to work flawlessly, not it doesnt. my gmail is fetching properly now so atleast i can count on that, for now...

Nope....it's not just you. It's *us* and we are the majority.

Totally OT but.....

If I buy a 3G, what happens to the voice mails on my current phone? Will they still be accessible by way of the new phone or do I simply lose them? Reason being, I have some *awesome* voice mails from my g/f on my current phone that I have a strong sentimental attachment to and I really don't want to lose them.

if you really need to check your email that quickly, just open the mail app and it will get it for you... right? i mean... what's the hurry?

the battery life...yeah i could use more... but... nothing's perfect

Those complaining about the battery life must remember that it's among the best for a 3G GSM smart phone. You can't blame the iPhone for any battery issues, especially if you're playing with it all day.

Push Email

I'm really confused about all the people complaining about the lack of push email. I realize that I may not be as busy as many business men, but I don't understand the need to read an email the second it arrives. Are there really emails in your life that are that important? I really can't imagine what would be so important...if you get the email 15 minutes after it was sent would you get fired? If getting your email is that important, what happens when you get an email while you are in the shower?
I'm not downplaying the argument that the iPhone should have push email, I guess I just don't understand the need for it.

I didn't even read the article, anyone who owns or has used an iPhone knows there's no comparison to any other phone out there. At all.

App store (and all the apps)
iTunes
Safari
YouTube
iPod

I think these exclusives are enough to make the iPhone the best phone out there, not to mention the beautiful display, easy-as-hell layout and now the Street View. All that these imitators have is the similar display.

iPhone is king.

Why is this (and any other need) so hard for people to understand? Or rather, why do you need to understand it? :)

If you're a stockbroker and you're sent a message to sell now, but you don't get it for 15 minutes, that could be a fortune lost.

If you're someone who maintains equipment, and a massive server farm goes down, 15 minutes is a lot of unhappy people and even lost money in an enterprise environment.

But basically, if everyone had to wait at least 15 minutes during the day, it piles up into very significant delays, especially over tens of thousands of workers. Instant gratification is the word of the day for managers nowadays. Most large companies require a form of IM now.

I own a disaster restoration firm and sometimes it *is* important that I get emails quickly. If that's the case, I simply use the manual refresh or fetch or whatever you call it. No big deal because the vast majority of the time, it's not important that I get them right away.

Actually, most of the important stuff is done with a regular phone call. I would *never* simply send someone an email if it was *that* important. ;)

"iphone killer'' my foot. How can a phone get hit with so many bad reviews? :p

Bad reviews? Most reviews have been positive, just not the end-all be all phone.

Just an FYI, the VerizonWireless.com site is being pounded right now. Early #s show a HUGE number of orders the 1st day that it's on sale. Granted, it is the 1st day, but anyone claiming that the Storm won't do well needs to get their head checked.

Btw... I find it interesting that Apple released their Firmware update on the same day as the Storm release day.

Interesting... don't you think?

i just went to a VZW on my lunch, there was no one there buying the STORM but i guess this store claimed 20 people bought it at 10am and they have another 10 on hold. no more available until next week. not even a display model. so i didn't get to play with one.

call me crazy...

Call me crazy, but I actually WISH the Storm would be an iPhone "killer." This would be good competition for Apple and they would realize that they need to fix some of the easily-fixable flaws in the iPhone to stay competitive.

The consumers always win in a fiercely competitive business environment. I personally don't have either the iPhone or the Storm, but will get one of the two before Christmas. I'm current on Verizon, so the Storm seems like an obvious upgrade. On the other hand, I've been dying to get an iPhone.

How is Apple going to respond to the consumers like me? Hopefully by fixing some of the missing features in the iPhone and providing me with enough incentive to choose the iPhone over the Storm (or any other similar device that comes out in the future).

So here's to all of you iPhone fans out there who hope that someone will come along and compete with the iPhone to force Apple to implement some of these features that everyone seems to complain about...
