Ha ha! Please please please, DO NOT automatically associate those of us in the Philly area with that guy. I shudder at the thought. Besides, I think he's from the Scranton area anyway, which might as well be in an entirely different state.

He didn't make any point. What he needs to know is that the LTE rollout isn't by population, but by the factors someone else already mentioned.

Point, implication, let's not split hairs. I'm sure he knows that it ISN'T by population, otherwise we'd already have LTE. His IMPLICATION was that perhaps it SHOULD go by population, or at least be a strong factor. I agree, not because we're more important, but because more people means more network congestion, which means slower speeds, which LTE would alleviate, hopefully.

Really now, it's not that hard.

Drove through once on I-70. Indianapolis looked surprisingly modern, from a distance. Didn't get off of 70 to see much else though, so my data is insufficient. However, pointing out that Indiana is hopelessly landlocked is neither stupid nor stereotyping. Its just geography.

I should point out that this thread was supposed to be about LTE, and it wasn't until some d-bag stereotyped Philly that it went terretorial. I've got no beef with Indiana, and I suspect the OP doesn't either. He probably chose Muncie somewhat randomly from the list of LTE cities just to make his point.

Correct

How can you say I didn't make any point? Obviously it isn't rolled out by population maybe that's the point I was trying to make.

HSPA+ is more than suitable for a smartphone or tablet. You won't even notice a speed difference with LTE if you have a good HSPA+ connection. Of course if the ping is lower then the page will load faster. I'm sure Philly has HSPA+ so you'll go be good to go and have better battery life. :D

While I'm anxious to see true LTE speeds on my new iPad here in the Philly area, I can't honestly say that I have a huge problem with the 3-5 RealWorld (tm) Mbps I get on HSPA+ when I have a decent signal. My biggest issue with AT&T in this area has been backhaul bandwidth, meaning, when I have a strong wireless signal but can't get any throughput because the network BEHIND the wireless signal doesn't have the capacity to handle what's being thrown at it.

Seems AT&T has LTE rolled out up and down the east coast, with the conspicuous omission of Philadelphia. What gives? Now they're adding LTE service in places like Muncie, Indiana (population 70,000)? Seriously?

Could be the rudeness of the inhabitants:eek:

I live in Scranton pa about 2 hours from Philly. Bought the original iPad when it first came out so I was grandfathered in the AT&T unlimited plan. Bought the new ipad3 thought I was going to get this ultra fast speeds. Man was I disappointed I didn't see a change in speed frome the 3G I returned it gave up my unlimited plan and switched to Verizion. All I can say is wow I'm getting over 35 mps vs 1 or 2 mps with AT&T definitely worth giving up the unlimited plan for the speed I'm getting with Verizion

Wow, way to jump into the thread with an insightful comment. Nice going.

Make sure you save your IMEI from your original iPad. With it and an AT&T sim, you will be able to use your Verizon iPad on AT&T 4G if you are in an area where Verizon doesn't have LTE.

Please say you at least sold that unlimited plan...

If you will read, I was not the only one who has a similar comment about Philly. I have visited . . . . Crude and rude.

I have read, and comments about the manners of Philly residents are completely irrelevant to the thread topic. The thread questioned why Philly would be skipped by AT&T, and jokers, like you, decided to start slinging mud about Philadelphians. There are rude *******s in every city, not just Philly. Let's stick to the topic.

Hey at least the mile high city(Denver) didn't get skipped but as far as the burbs' go AT&T has been very sketchy. Meanwhile at Verizon they forgot us completely. Although considering philly is pretty big common sense tells me that you guys should have LTE soon.

You are taking your thread WAY too serious!

You asked why and I am giving you my opinion of why they skipped Philly and YOU are doing a great job of proving my point! :p

SO get back on topic! Why ARE they so rude?

Philly LTE sites are being built as i type this. Major push to get Philly done. Lucent does AT&T's build outs.

Philadelphia-metro area
New Jersey Turnpike Exit # 4

Verizon LTE
Download 12.94 Mbps
Upload 3.86 Mbps
Ping 53 ms

AT&T 4G (non-LTE)
Download 7.36 Mbps
Upload 1.37 Mbps
Ping 57 ms

It wasn't skipped. It's just that they are being forced to use union labor, so it's taking 10x longer to get done.

Well, no LTE annoucement cost them a potential customer to Verizon (switched from wifi only yesterday). Their loss...

Hopefully suburban coverage gets expanded soon. :) But even at the fringes my speeds are probably on par with what AT&T HSPA+ would be.

Update - I can now get Verizon LTE at my apartment complex (used to just reach the main street of my Delaware County town some blocks away). :D If only I had it on my iPhone, sigh.

Hope AT&T does roll it out this summer as rumored. I understand unions slowing things down, but it's not like that's exclusive to them and not Verizon.

After being involved with a previous network build-out in Philly, I wouldn't be surprised to see it skipped over to avoid dealing with the unions.
