Did you read the thread?

Seriously, what's your point here? I'm searching for a solution. And yes, I've been reading the thread.

This worked for me, so I thought I'd share it and ask if this worked for other people as well. If you'd read the thread, you would have probably seen my name a few times...

Look, you asked if anyone had a similar experience and only half a dozen posts before yours people are discussing losing signal when moving from their router. What do you want them to do, repeat over and over for your benefit? Use your eyes.

1) i updated my ipad to 4.2 GM and had no problems what so ever at home (apple wireless AP)
2) i went to the airport and had no problem with using the hotspot over there
3) i went to a hotel and had no problem using the hotspot in the hotel
4) i went to my uncle`s house and suddenly after a couple of minutes no internet anymore (wifi signal shows ok, but i`m unable to ping the gateway or any other device on the local subnet)
5) i have hotspot software running on my laptop and connected the ipad to that. And again same problems.

i have reset the network connections twice,

what i notice is that if i open an app which i can use to ping my gateway the first time after a reset then i can ping aslong as i want. But when i start using the internet like appstore or safari it crashes after a couple of minutes...

I have this wifi problem as well. Drops every few seconds.

On a side note, battery life is crap compared to 3.2.2. Anyone noticed this?

Same problem here on a 64gb 3G iPad.

I have never had the problem in any other 3.2 version/beta of 4.2

Now i have to reboot the router to regain internet access.

It seems i can browse a few pages then it nukes it, possibly causing a crash in the router rather than the iPad as it stops my phone from accessing the net over wifi too.

I could happily use the same router fine previous to 4.2gm

I discovered that if you keep your bandwith usage alive, than the connection keeps working. for example, I downloaded a big pdf from fastpdf and in the meanwhile used some other apps, and everything worked fine. in the same point, pretty far from the router, the connection drops every minutes without any download in the background

I used WiFiFoFum on my iPhone to determine what channels other access points were using and moved my router's channel as far away as possible. So far it seems to be working. I don't usually have a problem with adjacent channel interference.

Really good observation.

well i have changed channels, encryption, b/g if i reset everything and start pinging with "iNet" i can ping the gateway without any problems for over an hour. BUt assoon as i start using applications the connection crashes.

Let's hope that Apple has discovered this, too.

Could it be a dns issue?

When the problem happens for me i can still happily access my routers HTML config page fast as you like on the LAN IP.

General web browsing when it's working seems slow as well

nah, during the problem i`m unable to ping the gateway and the dns server
Besides that an DHCP release and renew doenst work.

I've noticed one more thing.
If I'm close to the router, internet never stops working. But as I walk out of my room, I have the issue that we all already know.

Anyone else noticed it?

I have noticed this too. I do not experience the wi-fi issue when I'm anywhere in my house except in the basement. Our original Apple AirPort Extreme (802.11b/g only) router is on the main floor of our home and the iPad w/4.2 GM works fine there as well as on the second floor. However, I get the reported connectivity drops in the basement where the signal is weaker.

So it really seems an issue about the "power" of the signal.
Anyway, the internet connection stops working even if my iPad has 3 WiFi bars — but I'm not close to the router.

I agree. I've not had my iPad choke when it's accessing data steadily (like streaming video).

Last night I was surfing the web in bed and I couldn't connect to any sites all of a sudden. My internet is pretty flaky like that but usually everything reconnects within 1 minute. After about 3 minutes of trying to refresh pages I tried connecting to my router with its IP address since the WiFi symbol was still at full strength. Nothing. Wouldn't even connect to the gateway. Turned Wifi off, then on, then Airplane mode on, then off multiple times. No luck. Reset network settings once, no dice. Reboot and... nothing. So I opened my MacBook and was shocked to see that my Wifi was working prefectly. I connected to my router with the MacBook and did a remote reset and once it came back, the iPad was fully functional.

This is odd.

And now? Is the iPad still working after this procedure?
Because it seems that every solutions is temporary.

It worked for another ~20 minutes after it came back, but I'll have to do some more testing when I get home from work. Will report my findings.

It is interesting to note, however, that this issue didn't appear until the day after I upgraded to the GM, and it got much use right after the update.

I have a couple of suggestions for problem determination.

1. Several people have stated that they noticed they lost their DHCP delivered IP address and that would definitely cause the problem. Others have said if you stay close to the router it doesn't disconnect.

Try going into the settings for your connected WiFi network, write down the dynamic IP Address and then switch to "Static" and manually add the address so it is locked in. Then assign it permanently in the settings on your router. So if the iPad is losing it's IP address when there is a momentary loss of connection, it will come right back up.

2. Also, to those with issues, is your iPad a recently purchased unit or one of the early units? What is the original purchase date? Maybe there is a trend.

I have only had my 3G 64GB unit for a month and a half and I have no issues so far on 4.2 GM.

is there anybody here who is experiencing these problems with Apple wireless devices?

I have tried it on several wifi routers now and can confirm for me All non-apple routers suffer from the problem.

Airport express : works fine 802.11n

Airport base station: works fine 802.11n
Both of the above are connected to my netgear adsl wifi router below.

Netgear dg834n router : 802.11b/g. Disconnects after a few seconds, retains full signal but no Internet connection.

At work BE unlimited (Thompson adsl wifi router) : disconnects after a few seconds of browsing and will not reconnect unless I reboot the iPad.

No wifi problems BUT I have noticed battery drains a bit faster with 4.2GM compared to 3.2, started a thread on this here.. I don't think we will see the final version of 4.2 for a while, wifi and battery are to HUGE issues to rectify before the final release..
Hope Apple techs check out this forum :)

Sadly I had already tried to switch to Static — which is what I always did withe my iPhone, assigning it a permanent IP — but no lucky.

I purchased the iPad when it came out in Italy. It was delivered to me on May 28th. 32GB 3G.
