I’m delighted with the size of the X -it really is the best of both worlds for me, screen size almost of a plus in a standard form factor, with all of the gadgets.

Why would you think it is the size of a Plus almost?

Apple clearly states that it is the same exact width as the standard 6, 7 and 8 iphone. So no change there and I agree the 5.8 is very misleading. You basically are getting a standard size iPhone with a a little more height (all of which is not usable thanks to the notch.

Screen Size
In portrait orientation, the width of the display on iPhone X matches the width of the 4.7" displays of iPhone 6, iPhone 7, and iPhone 8. The display on iPhone X, however, is 145pt taller than a 4.7" display, resulting in roughly 20 percent additional vertical space for content.

Yeah, I never said that Apple didn’t state that but as a plus user it’s so hard to adjust to it.
I remember that I used to always think that I’ll never get a plus but once bought I loved it. If it would have had the Plus ratio it would have been perfect. It’s amazing how just a few millimeters make such a big difference.

Well...fast forward..I've got my iPhone X and the size satisfied me.
I sold my 7 Plus immediately.
I think X is the perfect form factor and the best sized iPhone ever.
I won't be missing Plus at all.

Prior to the X, I was exclusively a Plus user with the latest model being the 8plus.i have medium to large size hands so the plus version size never was a real issue for the most part.

Initially the screen size was a shock but 24hrs I’ve yet to have buyers remorse. I sold my 8plus and will use this X until the plus version comes out. I will admit I’ve missed being able to use my phone exclusively with one hand again and of course the pocketability of the X is a lot better.

Also am I the only one that thinks the X length to width ratio is extremely similar to the 5? I remember when we made the jump from the 4 to the 5 and being shocked at how tall the screen was.

plus user ever since the 6+...the X is the form factor i've been hoping for. the one gesture that upsets me is the one for control center, as it requires a shift in the way i hold the phone in order to reach the right top corner...but otherwise, love the size of the phone while getting even more information on the screen than the plus.

I’m so used to the display size (not the whole phone size) of iPhone 7 Plus, and even though I only had the Plus for couple of months,I just cannot stand small screen size of standard iPhones anymore.

So I’m thinking about pre-ordering an iPhone X,I believed the numbers and thought it’s gonna be same screen size but smaller form factor.(perfect)

But now everyone is talking about iPhone X display size being more similar to standard iPhones rather than Plus due to screen ratio, notch etc

Are there other iPhone Plus owners worried about iPhone X display size?

iPhone X screen is larger than the Plus screen. The difference is X is 1/4” narrower and about 5/8” taller.

iPhone 8 Plus: 4.79x2.69= 12.88 sq in

iPhone X: 5.31x2.45= 13.04 sq in

If you look the two side by side you’ll see the icons and text are larger on the X.

What’s smaller on the X are 16:9 HD movies because they’re height is restricted to the narrower width of the X.

I owned all the plus sized phones...and was a skeptic about the X. I had the opportunity to buy one on Friday, and I have to say I’m impressed. Hold the screen next to a plus...yes it’s narrower slightly. But it’s longer. The only disappointment is they got rid of viewing the apps in 2 columns in landscape. But I have to tell you...in 3 years of owning plus phones, I rarely used it in landscape, so will I really miss it? Time will tell...

By the way...so far so good on battery life...again, Time will tell...

As another former plus user that was reaction too. I really like the X 's screen size and don't miss the plus at all either.

Aspect ratio matters, and depending on what you're doing (mobile vs desktop vs tablet), there is a sweet spot, and delicate balance on what's 'ideal'.
hmm.
can you maybe elaborate on the some?

--------
also realize the mobile sweet spot has a lot more to consider than what content can display in what location on the device.
imo, the most important part to consider is how we typically hold the device.. and how we can physically interact with it..
secondary would be how the shape or size of the screen looks to our eyes (again.. imo).

but the balance to be struck should largely be a balance between physical interaction and view_ability..

if the comparison is X vs Plus, the X definitely strikes a greater balance of these factors.. (again-- imo)

i mean, 1/3 of the Plus is basically wasted space that you must hold physically while contributing zero to the view factor..
there is no delicate balance that has been met in this case.. it's moderatly-to-excessively off balance.

I’d rather have a wider iPhone then a taller one, I’ve been a plus user for 3 yrs and love the screen size and the size of the keyboard, on the x the keyboard looks to narrow and small, to me the x is more of an upgrade for iPhone 7 users but I don’t see much of an upgrade for a plus user.

coming from a 7+there’s an adjustment curve, it hasn’t been difficult for me and so much of the user experience is driven by perception and not specs that it’s fine for me. i use my phone 99% of the time in vertical mode, i consume video and other horizontally-presented media on an ipad...

That was the idea all along.
Its only that the + users dont have any other option if they want the latest phone. Unfair if you ask me.

Yes very unfair but I think Apple purposely set it up that way.

good to know! picking up my X tomorrow and I am still deciding whether should i sell my 7+or not.

i think Apple said as much, stating they brought the X in a season earlier than planned, thought i read that in a quote in here. probably would have been difficult to bring both an X and X+ in a year early

The X will satisfy non Plus users way more than Plus users.

I haven’t received my X yet, and I am currently a 7+ user so watching this thread with a mix of anticipation and anxiety :D

The 7+ was my first +phone, and I bought it because of the double camera system. To my mind, that was a real step-up from the earlier iPhones. And I have really loved using that camera. I was a bit trepidatious about the size of the + as I was already finding a ‘regular’ 6S bulky in my trouser pockets. And this did play out, in so much as I now rarely carry my 7+ in a front trouser / jeans pocket, which can be a pain. So, on one side I’m looking forward to an even better camera system in a smaller chassis.

I just hope I haven’t become spoiled by the screen size of the +phone. It is a very usable device and I frequently use it landscape for web browsing. Tabs are less of a bother for me as I don’t tend to have many open at the same time.

Roll on next week when my X is due to arrive...

The X is COMFORTABLY pocketable. I don’t prefer the plus because it isn’t comfortably pocketable.

The X is for those that are non Plus users. Don’t think it fits the Plus user niche.

Measuring apps that aren’t updated for the X aspect ratio, the diagonal is exactly 5” on the X screen. So this would be the size of the screen if there were bezels at the top and bottom instead of the notch and the extra space at the bottom where the home button used to be.

Coming from a 7 Plus this screen seems smaller because it’s more narrow. Doesn’t fit the amount of text across and many apps don’t support dynamic text sizes. However, it’s easier to hold and use one handed. Fits better in the pocket and the side holster I use is smaller on the waist.

The X is great, but I do feel the jump from my 6 to the 6S Plus was bigger for me, with the extra battery life and screen space, and then the dual camera on the 7 Plus.

Going from a 6/6S/7 to the X is a huge jump, with the bigger screen, bigger battery and dual camera, from the Plus models less so. You’re getting a more compact phone, but less usable screen and more or less the same camera and battery as before.

It’s a great phone and I love the new UI, but I don’t think I’ll truly love it until I get my hands on a ‘Plus’ model.

That was the reason I kept the 7 Plus so that if I didn't like the X (due to size or other reasons) I could just return the X and keep my 7 Plus (my 7 Plus was just 3 months old).

But as I said X is excellent in every way and I love it.

You will feel the screen is smaller at first, but will soon get used to it..the form factor is so superior that you won't want to handle that giant 7 Plus anymore.

Face ID is also very easy too use and excellent and I have to say it took just 2 tries for me to 100% get used to lack of home button and those swipe-up gestures.

The only thing I don't like is the big out of place popped out vertical camera lens but that's hidden nicely now by the Apple leather case (the best case for it).

Overall very happy with the iPhone X,definitely the best iPhone yet.
