It’s still very outdated. It’s not a 2017 design. It has so much wasted space. The fact it’s the same size as the note 8 while being 0.8 inches smaller says it all.

It’s obviously a great phone for what it does but it’s old tech. When you compare it to the new galaxy devices and even the Chinese low budge models it looks very outdated.

I would much rather pay more to get the design I want that me stuck with the same form factor as my 7 plus. While I do enjoy my current 7 plus a change in design is needed
I got an S8+ to play around with (will return before 30 days) and I agree with this. The design of the 8 compared to these other phones is dated. But thats why Apple has the X.

I liked the S8, but I am too entrenched in iOS. Apple needed to create the X to move the iPhone into present day design language and to establish a design direction for the next few years. I think they had to release the 8 also though as a lot of people are reluctant to change. They'll slowly move people towards the design language of the X next year. I agree though, the 8 looks a little silly compared to the X or other flagships right now (excluding the Pixel 2).

So you bought an S8 with no intent of keeping it beyond 30 days?

Just sort of a "trial X"?

Really?

... and I'm one of many who think the X looks a little silly compared to the Plus. What monkey thought the notch was a good idea? LOL

I would still take the notch over the bezels. I am tired of this dated design.

Except Samsung is charging standard prices for the S8 and S8 Plus while Apple is demanding absurd prices.

In every video or photo of the X that I've seen, the screen blows me away. It looks ginormous and immersing and I think I'll forget all about the notch once I start using it. Going from Plus sized phones starting all the way with the 6Plus. I'm not worried about screen size, and I'm really excited about the new form factor.

Do you call it dated and swap your car after 3 years too?

The X would be fine if the ears were gone... but that would be called a bezel. It just looks utterly retarded... and my eyes are immediately drawn to it like they would be drawn to a door ding on a new car.

Polish a turd as much as you want... it's still a turd.

Looks gorgeous. I'll take a little notch over huge bezels and chin all day.

LMAO... it does look good... but that black area going left to right in a straight line above the water would be called...

... a bezel?

The one on the right is acceptable to me... my comment about being utterly retarded was describing the one on the left.

If you're gonna post pics talking about how beautiful the notch is at least post a pic where the notch is visible.

Makes sense to me.

It looks like a Galaxy rip-off on the right. Apple wants the iPhone to be identifiable.

I still think the notch looks great. I think going all the way to the corners is the way to go. Looks futuristic to me.

The only person looking at their phone is the person holding their phone. I think they'll know it's an iphone. The reason the notch exists is because of the simplicity of effective consumerism. Imagine having to design something awkwardly just to appease the desire of the people that want everyone to know they are holding something different. Yeah, yeah...I know that at the point of the keynote and the sale that it has to dazzle and stand out etc. I'm not naive. I completely understand why Apple have done this. I also understand we've jumped the shark.

Apple should be more confident in what they build. Anyways, if you're looking at the phone's screen then iOS is usually the most blatant way of knowing what the damn thing is.

Why are people so obsessed with pointing out that the screen area is smaller than the Plus?

This isn't supposed to be a replacement to the 8 Plus, its an entirely new iPhone. Yes the screen is technically bigger than the Plus there is really no way around that, and yes the screen area relative to the Plus is smaller because of the aspect ratio.

I have fully embraced the design of the X and have grown to actually like the uniqueness of the notch. I have no issues with people disagreeing with me and not liking the design, but goodness I wish people would stop acting like the only people who like the notch are OMGZ APPLE FANBOIS that only like it because that's what apple told us to like. It is entirely possible to like the notch because we simply like it. I know having spent the last 3 months with an S8 Plus that I will really like the form factor of the X and the aspect ratio, and ultimately that's all that matters to me but man is it tiring reading childish people try and explain how it isn't actually possible to like it because it looks so bad and its immediately going to get changed etc.

Because Apple has already marketed it as the next big thing.. replacing all current size phones with a futuristic design. That's why people are questioning the Plus size vs X. I've had 2 opportunities to use the X already and in both situations I hated it because it's screen is clearly smaller than the Plus models. It really didn't feel well in my hand at all. Again this is coming from a Plus user.. I use an SE sometimes, mainly for testing purposes and I'm good with that because it's a temporary device for me... but X as a daily driver would drive me bananas! Rather wait another year for their Plus edition because its going to have to happen in order to compete with Samsung who already uses OLED and with fold-able tech coming soon.. they will be one upping Apple again in the screen department.

Well said... I don't need a notch to know I have an iPhone. Just more Apple Kool-Aid that I ain't buying...

Showing your true colours now.

"LOL" "LMAO" to denigrate those who oppose your view. Congrats, you're now an immature fanboi of not an opposing phone manufacturer, but a differing model to those also using an Apple device, unable to discuss things sensibly.

This place....

Thanks for confirming what I already suspected.

Signed,

A user who comfortably holds the Plus (and easily uses it one handed)

Whatever man... I'm not gonna talk about how great a notch is and then include a photo of a screen where there is no visible notch.

Am I making sense?

... and I'm 43. Get over yourself.

well this is concerning for me.
as expected, it looks much more close to regular size iPhone rather than Plus.
That being said I think I can only decide when I have one in my hand.
I will pre order one,and will decide to keep it or not when I have it.
I also have real concerns about that notch, it could and should have been prevented just like Galaxy S8 and the concept picture someone posted above.just like those crazy antenna bands in 6/6s , the notch is a design flaw.

Nothing wrong with that. Check it out in hand and make your decision.

I've made mine already and am happy with the choice I made. If I were on the fence like you I'd probably do the same thing.

:D

Well I am one for always having the latest. So if it is a design flaw (and I don’t think it is) then all I can say is thank god for the IPhone Upgrade Program. New every year was made for me :)

Ever notice how folks getting a new phone think it is the greatest ever and folks who are not try to point out all kinds of design flaws. Rationalization maybe??

Haha absolutely. People need to justify their buying decision. The X has been significantly more divisive than years past though.
