I am strongly considering calling an audible and keeping my XS Max another year. Instead upgrading Apple Watch this year.

I'm so glad I don't need to waste $$$ this year on an upgrade. I'm so past it now. I couldn't care less about having the latest phone - unless it really does something amazing. These iterative updates.. yawn.

I used to love - LOVE - the excitement of a new device..

Right up until the 6.
That slippery bar of soap got just a bit too big in hand for me and I was back to the SE as soon as it came out (along with 6s models) and I've never budged again.

They basically eliminated me as an iPhone hardware purchaser due to making every option large, larger or huge.

The Mini was close enough for me to consider going to it at some point, but they now nuked that also.

So frustrating how not diverse the iPhone lineup actually is.

Everything points to the fact that all the 14 series will still use their dreadful flickering OLED displays — so no new iPhone for me… yet again.
As long as it has an OLED screen it will be a disappointment.
Perhaps a shiny new SE is in your future(s)❓♥️📱 Seems a relatively fantastic—and affordable—tie-over until any bigger, better, LCD-equipped potential future iPhone.

What about from an 8?
That's what I'd be doing. I thought about a 13 last year, but it was around this time that we were being told that the 14 would get a lot of the exciting things that were being worked on--that the 14 would be a bigger update (sound familiar?).

If it's essentially a 13 with a better battery, then I'm most likely to just buy last-year's model or wait another year for the 15 (which is a possibility because I wasn't sold on the 13 ten months ago). I personally feel like the rumored changes to the lineup don't inspire upgrading.

I have little interest in paying the premium for a Pro, and I have no interest in paying for a bigger form factor and carrying around a giant rectangle in my pocket.

no.

i'm still quite happy with my 12 pro max but i'm sure i'd be happy upgrading to any iPhone 14.

the posts on this site are getting worse by the day.

Wow, you and I followed basically the same trajectory. Loathed the wide-load, bar-soap form factor of my 6 and ran back to the iPhone 5 chassis I dearly loved in the form of the first SE. I had since moved on to bigger devices but I am now comfy and satisfied with my green mini baby.

I haven’t skipped a year since 2012 / iPhone 5. But knowing that Apple is finally going to use USB-C next year makes me want to skip this year, and get a double upgrade next year.

Been doing the same thing with my Apple Watch Series 5. the upgrades since then are so marginal, so I’m holding off till the alleged “flat-edged” model comes out.

That's a good point

I wish they'd just get over it already and go USB-C
It would simplify so much across all the devices in my house and that get used in the car/travel, etc

Our family uses an annual trickle down program. I get the new top loaded model. My wife gets the one I just was using. Then she selects which daughter of the 4 gets her current iPhone. Three of her four daughters are using iPhones.....

I have upgraded every year to an unlocked top model since the iPhone came to Verizon.

If it introduces a 6.7" model with a lower-than-Pro Max price tag, then no. The camera, wifi and other improvements are more incremental IMO and might not appeal to the widest bunch of people.

Always disappointment in news and yet still every year sells record numbers more than previous model.
