I disagree.
I would take an iPhone 3GS, with LED flash and Retina Display, than the iPhone 4's design.

But all your stating is a design opinion. I prefer sturdy glass to cheap plastic. Also, a 3GS does not have an LED flash and Retina Display. So hardware-wise, iPhone 4 is their best phone, and i think it is their best design-wise too.

The iPhone 4 was the big leap.

I got the iPhone 1, and then didn't upgrade to the iPhone 2 or 3, because it just didn't seem like a big enough upgrade to me.

The iPhone 4 was a game changer. The retina screen, the 720p video camera, the faster 3G (twice the speed of the 3GS in the real world). It was finally a leap worth making for me, and combined with the new form factor, it really did seem like the first giant leap after the initial giant leap that the iPhone 1 took from the rest of the industry.

The iPhone 5 may be a further big improvement, but it will not be to iPhone 4 what iPhone 4 was to iPhone 3GS.

You didn't get my point.

Sturdy glass? The front of the iPhone 4 might be made out of gorilla glass but the back is regular glass that breaks at home due to an accident. It's a flawed design to make a smartphone's back covering, out of regular glass.

Also, the design of the iPhone 4 is ergonomically very bad. It doesn't feel as good on the hand as the other iPhones before it did.

I know the iPhone 3GS didn't have LED Flash and Retina Display, which is why i specifically said that if the iPhone 3GS did have those 2 things, i would've picked it than the iPhone 4 anytime.

Design-wise, the iPhone 4 is great to look at, yes it is Apple's most beautiful iPhone. But when used, i find it very uncomfortable.

I disliked the iPhone 4 design since the leak, my opinion hasn't changed since. And if the iPhone 5 rumors are true, and Apple is pushing for a total redesign, and that the iPhone 4 design "fell out of favor" by the Apple execs. Then i'm sure they felt similar.

It's "highly anticipated" because it's the first iPhone to come off the yearly refresh cycle. Naturally, people were expecting an upgrade 2 months ago and when not even a single word of a new iPhone has been mentioned by Apple since last June... people are going to start talking.

I love my iPhone 4, but it's hard to call it the BEST iPhone, because it's simply just "newer" and it's hard to judge compared to the available technology in the previous year from other competitors.

If Apple keeps inline with the rumors we've all been hearing for months, this iPhone will be the biggest leap since the original. I don't think we'll be disappointed and people with their 3GS still will be glad they waited.

MacRumors, the new Magic 8 Ball

Will this be the most anticipated event ever?

Answer: Try back later.

There's another possibility: The iphone 5 is going to be an updated iPhone 4, so it's outward appearance is exactly the same as the iPhone 4. No need to hide it in a protective shell or keep it secret.

..hope this ain't the case, but it's certainly a possibility, if not a probability.

i like to think that the fact that apple is keeping the next iphone so hush hush means that it will be quite an improvement on the iphone 4. i mean if it were just an updated iphone 4 with minor improvements why all the need for secrecy? and the new LTE rumors still have me day dreaming even though i know the chances are slim to none

iPhone or no iPhone, the next Apple event will be the most anticipated one and watched since 2007 is my guess. And mostly due to all of this iPhone 5 crazyness ofcourse there is more to come out from Apple but the expectations of the iPhone beats eveything.

What are your expectations folks? If till then no single leak will come out, will you be happy with some minor adjustments or do you demand awesomeness after all of this waiting?

Yeah, I think it will be pretty hot. I expect to see Apple releasing and showcasing iOS 5. They will reiterate the benefits and features, and summarize pricing options for additional storage. Maybe some new features. Maybe Apple TV integration. Probably some stuff on improved iTunes.

And then the new iPhone with an emphasis on how it does stuff so much better under iOS 5 than any other iPhone model. I have no idea what new features Apple will unleash on the iPhone, but I will bet that there will be some good stuff.

And maybe some stuff to emphasize that the only device you want to buy from Verizon is a new iPhone.

I believe this will be one of the most anticipated events. If the rumors are true, then the iPhone 5 will truly be the biggest step from the original. It's too bad they used that to label the iPhone 4, as i feel that the iPhone 5 would be more fitting of such label. But i guess they had to call the iPhone 4 something, unfortunately it's become Apple's worst iPhone yet.

So yes, this one will be the big.

The iPhone 4 is by far the best iPhone yet, FYI.

The iPhone 6 will be even hotter. Of course the iPhone 7 will be the hottest, except when the iPhone 8 comes out, which will only be surpassed by the iPhone 9. Mark my word!

Breaking news: Latest model better than previous models, fans shocked. :p

It's a joke, no one take it personally please

I do get the point. You don't like how it is made of glass and how it feels in your hand. Those opinions can vastly vary from person to person. You're options are not the general census of iPhone users. Many people like the glass and love how it feels. The iPhone 4 is faster, has a better display, better camera, has a flash, and has FaceTime. Looking at is objectively, the iPhone 4 is their best iPhone so far. You can say that the iPhone 4 was your most disliked or disappointing iPhone yet, but you said it was the worst iPhone.

iPhone 4 - best iPhone, you dislike the design and how it feels
iPhone 3GS - 2nd best, you prefer the design and how it feels

Get my point?

iPhone 4 - least durable iPhone, least comfortable. These things matter

Again, very subjective.

My iPhone 4 - I find it durable and comfortable
Your iPhone 3GS - you find it durable and comfortable

My features, upgrades and specs in my iPhone 4 are better than the 3GS

The iPhone 4 is the best iPhone.

You disliking the design and comfort doesn't make it the worst iPhone.

Durability is not subjective. Also, in terms of improvements made from the previous gen, the 3GS is a bigger step from the 3G than the 4 was from the 3GS. You will probably say this is also subjective though.

I don't think anything other than a new and ground breaking product will top the iPhone keynote of Jan 2007 (if that ever happens again). I have watched parts of that 2007 keynote (especially the beginning) maybe 10 times since 2007. It was pretty exciting to watch. Even the iPad couldn't top that, mostly because we were already were familiar with the tech behind it (same as the iPhone & iPod Touch). The next iPhone announcement is just well.... another iPhone announcement. I certainly will look forward to it as with all Apple announcements, but I am not expecting anything super exciting or groundbreaking. iOS 5 will be one of the big things about the new iPhone and we already know what the entails and many of those features other smart phones already have had or there were apps that did some of those things already.

I am not sure how this '3GS was a bigger step' conclusion can be reached.

The 3GS brought:
- ~200MHz faster processor
- 128 MB more RAM
- digital compass
- voice control
- improved rear camera (50% more pixels)
- ??

The 4 added the following:
- 200MHz faster processor
- 256 MB more RAM
- Retina display - double resolution, and also IPS
- front camera
- video calling
- improved rear camera (50% more pixels plus a much better sensor)
- LED flash
- gyroscope
- noise canceling microphone
- better voice quality and reception (except in areas of poor reception + death grip).

I do agree about the durability issues, but feature-wise the iPhone 4 was a massive leap that added every missing, oft-requested feature plus some.

- increased data speed

- Improved battery
- Video recording (i'm not sure if this counts since the previous ones could technically do it but not out of the box)
- larger capacity

There are quite a few features you left out. I haven't edited the iPhone 4 list.

That's a fairly inconclusive argument you're making there dude. Try backing it with some points. See post #46 for examples of said points.

i definitely think the 4 was a better change than the 3gs was. the value of each upgrade imo meant a lot more. the 4 is a hell of a phone and always will be in my mind.
